  • @whatevr192 : "the Industrial Rev. was in the 1900s"

Which history book are you reading?

  • Bob Hope was a conservative all of his life.

Considering that the socialist/liberal Democrats (FDR) were in office, this was an attack on them. This would still be considered an attack on Democrats today.

Some of you need to read a history book.

  • You clearly haven't seen troll 2!

  • that was not funny at all...

  • Lol made me laugh! Love ya forever Bob!!!!

  • Everyone shut up with the political crap and enjoy the humor! (If it makes you feel better, you can always just pretend he said "Republicans")

  • Stupid how is that even funny

  • Stupid

  • dumb joke!

  • I'm a democrat, but this is still really funny.

  • @whatevr192 "you liberals have ALL of the media today"

Wut. And who gives a shit what Bob Hope's political affiliation is, he was an entertainer for all.

  • @donnyforte2 Well, it's true. Name one popular conservative actor under the age of 50....see, you can't. And my comment was a response to those who were convincing themselves that this was a liberal movie. If you don't 'give a shit', you don't need to respond, thank you.

  • @whatevr192 Adam Sandler and Vince Vaughn are two off the top of my head.

"who were convincing themselves that this was a liberal movie"

Bob Hope is not the kind of Republican you know and love today, that's for damn sure. My father was a big fan of his and a big democrat. I watched and listened to him all the time as a kid. Stop marginalizing, jackass.

  • @donnyforte2 Vince Vaughn is a libertarian and Adam Sandler just supported a Republican mayor, he's not a Republican himself. And my point is that Bob Hope IS the kind of modern-day Republican. He supported Ronald Reagan and was Catholic. He was a neo-con. If you're not going to read my comments, why respond?

  • @whatevr192 Adam Sandler is a registered Republican and so is Vince Vaughn. You're confusing ideology with party.

And Bob Hope was not a "modern day Republican" by any means. Even Reagan was originally democrat and he's quite liberal compared to modern day Republicans on many issues. The only thing Reagan did well, like Bush, was trash the economy.

I respond because you apparently don't know what you're talking about.

  • @donnyforte2 That is not true. How could you say Reagan was 'quite liberal'? Anti-abortion and gay marriage, tax cutter, capitalist, anti-drugs, nationalist, and opposed to socialism in all kinds except for the New Deal (he was anti-socialized medicine, though) which he only appreciated because he lived through it. He was anti gun control until he got shot. And as for his supporting amnesty, he would have have a different opinion today. Reagan was a model Republican even in 2012.

  • @whatevr192 Reagan raised taxes, supported unions (minus air traffic controllers because they're federal), supported infrastructure spending, cut taxes in 81 and 88 but raised them every other year, created the largest peace time tax increase, largest corporate tax increase, voted to legalize abortion in California (Nancy Reagan has implied he pretended to be against it for Christian Right Support) and many other highly liberal policies including expanding government by 200,000 jobs.

  • @whatevr192 Being blunt I'm a Democratic Socialist (not a part of the Democratic Party. Geroge Orwell was probably the most famous Democratic Socialist) and I actually liked the Reagan administration on most issues. Going off what Reagan said I do not like his political positions, but going off what he actually did, he comes off very liberal. As for immigration, it was basically the same today as it was then, or was in the 1940's.

  • So many comments, so much butt-hurt.

  • thats great

  • Bwahahahahahahaha!

  • So true

  • Jesus is a Zombie. Like Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi.

  • No one should take offense to this today. In 1940 the definition of a Democrat and a Republican were far different than they are now. Before the industrial revolution, the two were almost completely reversed (Repubs were liberal, dems conservative).

  • @HappyHour904 Thank you for this newly obtained nugget of knowledge. I never knew that.

  • @HappyHour904 And before long we'll come full circle.

  • Comment removed

  • fucking load of shit

  • haha! that line rules better than either party ever could

  • Blah blah blah Republicans blah blah Democrats and stuff blah blah

  • I'm funny and I find this democratic.

  • This is like a very clean and posh version of an aristocrats joke.

  • I'm a democrat and I find this funny

  • Good...grief.....so now maybe we should just say that Democrats (liberals) have ABSOLUTELY no sense of humor at all.....lmao

    IT'S A MOVIE PEOPLE!!!!!!Just to get a laugh.....hahahahaha!

  • GREG MAY of Orlando, FL says: "Remember when Bob Hope used to take the late, great Jayne Mansfield with him to entertain the troops? Bob should've sung to Jayne, "Thanks for the mammaries!"

  • lolololol they r switched now <3 <3 <3

  • it matters noting you were wrong? thats a nice coat of insulation you have built around yourself.

  • Okay I'm pretty liberal but that's fucking funny.

  • I saw this movie on TV last week.

  • Hahahahahahahah! I forgot about this little gem...

  • The most interesting part of this clip is that this sort of humor existed back then. Truly, nothing is new under the sun, not even zombies.

  • this was back when chicogo politics was run by democratic bosses.they told folks who to vote for and they did....no questions asked...from president on down. today just the opposist is true. republicans and conservatives take their orders from party boss rush limbaugh. if he says he wants obama to fail then the republican house of representitives does all it can to see to it it happens....like zombies.

  • @TheBabyboomkidof53 Oh so you mean people aren't mad and frustrated at Obama(who has the lowest approval rating of any president) for the massive unemployment and debt he's made but because Rush Limbaugh wants him to fail? Yah, whatever idiot.

  • @SuperRocketPug you sound like a small man who feels threatened and insecure when faced with the truth.

  • @TheBabyboomkidof53 Bwhahaha! You just described yourself dude. Turth hurts that your little messhiah is nothing but a total fraud.

  • @SuperRocketPug I voted for mcain.....dude

  • @TheBabyboomkidof53 Means nothing, as the mans a liberal republican.

  • Back then the republicans were mostly north and democrats were mostly south.

  • Democrats were actaully very republican back then so....

  • lol now it's the other way around!

  • If I was a dude back then I could get any chick I wanted. Girls are way more bitchy and picky now lol

  • Oh that Bob Hope...

  • I think people are reading too much into the joke without appreciating the context. It's just a fairly mild (but funny) joke about the dominance of FDR over his own party at that time. A couple of years later in "The Road to Morocco" Hope made fun of the weak situation of the Republicans in an exchange with Crosby:

HOPE: I hope she didn't hear that. The dead have a way of coming back you know.

CROSBY: Get out, when they're dead they're dead.

HOPE: Not Aunt Lucy, she was a Republican.

  • I wasn't sure about what was so funny until the last second. Gold.

  • Lighten up, Clarence...

  • Now now, let's remember when this was made; today's remake would . . . . . . well, I was going to say Republican . . . and that would be true . . . . very true . . . but it's been fifty-some years and it still does apply to the Democrats! For different reasons from back then, but it still works!

  • Nah he means Congressmen

  • lMao!

  • @ChaseKittens

Conservative traditionalists? Who? Like "Bull" Connor; George Wallace; Robert Byrd; Al Gore Sr.??

  • @ChaseKittens Please define a "social liberal" in 1940 when the movie was released. ..... they didn't exist. Also, the civil rights bill of 1964 would never have passed without Republican votes. I think you are misrepresenting things. Ronald Reagan was indeed a Democrat until 1964. He stated "I didn't leave the Democrat party, they left me".

  • @Demspissmeoff "liberal" or "conservative" are only meaningful in the context of the culture. There was a point when being anti-slavery was a liberal position, and for your 1940 example, women were only 2 elections into suffrage and supporting sex/gender equality was a liberal position. I'm considered a liberal in my country, particularly in the south; I'd be considered a conservative if I lived in the Nordic countries.

  • @Demspissmeoff I think you proved his point. Pre-1960 the Democratic party was conservative (by today's meaning of the word) and so Reagan was a Democrat then. But when the party became more liberal Reagan (a conservative) left the party, or as he put it the party left him.

  • @ChaseKittens Excellent point!

  • @ChaseKittens You shouldn't be so butthurt, cry more.

  • @AttackBitPress 0/10, nothing is more butthurt than playing the butthurt card with such little warrant.

  • @ChaseKittens It's amazing how little people know the parties ever switched.

  • @ChaseKittens Good for you. I was going to say the same thing, but you beat me to it. I am always trying to explain to people that Republicans had liberal views a time ago. Thank you for getting the much needed top comment. (:

  • @ChaseKittens Someones butthurt

  • @ChaseKittens Yes, times do change, like whatever happened to those old Democratic Party themes of being fiscally responsible, support the people over the corporations, maximum freedom for all, support ALL the amendments of the Constitution, stay out of your neighbors business and regulate minimally. Now, the Party raises more money on Wall Street than the Republicans do, and both parties are so full of elites who seek to regulate every second of our lives. Times do change!

  • Comment removed

  • @ChaseKittens Did they actually switch? cause the democratic party is social-liberal since the 1890's, and favored the farmers and laborers.

  • @ChaseKittens

In the radio version of it (with the same cast) the phrase is "You mean like Republicans?" it all depended on who was in and who was out at the time..

  • @ChaseKittens Not true. They switched over time, not just during the civil rights movement. Probably around the 1930's. Anyway, this film is from 1940, when FDR was president. The most radical liberal (even by today's terms) EVER was president and representing Democrats. Hm. Besides, even if you ARE right, Bob Hope died a Republican in 2003, he was also a Reagan supporter. He was conservative, anyway.

  • the said "switch" is BS. Republicans were seen as more liberal because during the timeperiod in which you speak, Republicans were breaking from traditional racism. The term conservative refers to the party's interpretation of the constitution&the break from racism followed the words of the constitution to a T. Democrats were seen as conservative because they supposedly advocated states rights; their behavior showed anything but i.e. disregard for personal/ other states' rights&more govt control

  • @ataraxy729 Texas used to be a Democratic state, and Ronald Reagan (the conservative messiah) was a democrat back in the day - are you saying that this is because Texas/Reagan used to be liberal?

Get real - the political switch (one of many) is very well-accounted for, and this movie was made before it. It doesn't matter if Bob Hope stayed with whatever parties - just look at the campaigns and platforms over the years. Undeniable.

  • @ChaseKittens Being as I said nothing about Reagan, forgive me if I dont reply to that first bit. not sure where it came from. What I was saying is that a party's social standing is based on its interpretation of the constitution. So yes, republicans were more socially liberal but only because they had a conservative view of the constitution. The social change in viewpoint isn't really a change in view-point/stance on the laws of the country.

  • @ChaseKittens the social aspect is irrelevant. the parties interpret the constitution and that determines their social standing. Not the other way around.Tradition doesn't make view on certain things, interpretation does. "All men are created equal" was taken literally by the republicans (as the constitution is today) hence their "socially liberal" disposition. it was liberal according to the tradition of the times...not the constitution

  • @ataraxy729 and yet today the stance of the republicans is all mean are created equal unless they are poor or are not corporations. Doesn't seem like letter of the law to me.

  • Comment removed

  • @ChaseKittens their stances on fiscal issues did not change however. Even back then, Democrats were still statist drones, as they are today, worshiping at the altar of big government. Taft was a GOP candidate in the primaries in 1940 and his views are very similar to Ron Paul. Wilkie, the GOP nominee, ran against FDR, fighting inefficiency & corruption in big government. the young (the future) GOP doesnt care about social issues much anymore.

  • @printo69 The GOP doesn't care much about anything anymore except profit.

  • @ChaseKittens Oh isn't that priceless ;-)

Besides...I thought the 'funniest' line from a movie was 'a handbag??' from 'The Importance of Being Earnest'.

  • @ChaseKittens lol conservatives marked your comment as spam. go figure.

  • it was the republicans that freed the slaves wasn't it? since lincoln freed the slaves and he was a republican

  • @GreenDayFan625 Yes, there have been a couple of good Republicans, but not in the past 100 years.

  • @mt22201 also i don't 100% agree with lincoln either. he went against the constitution to keep the union together and we see where that's got us.

  • @GreenDayFan625 For me, with 20/20 hindsight, the question is whether saving the union was worth the lives of 600,000 men. Would it have been better to let the south go their own way, and then combat slavery using economic sanctions, much like the anti-apartheid sanctions of the 1980s?

  • republitards eat it!

  • @rmaxinmass eat what? the debt that you guys made?

  • well its true, fuck the democrats

  • love it..cant beat bop hope for one liners.

  • I have this DVD and when I heard that line I busted out laughing BECAUSE IT'S TRUE! Demoncats - group-thinkers only, dissenters need not apply. Do as I say, not as I do.

  • This sounds more like an apt description of the Fox News Tea Party.

  • @Saebeck32 Tea Partiers know what they are protesting, Occutards do not.

  • @jdnieves HA HA HA!!! 98% Fox News Tea Partiers think taxes went up under Obama!! They think the president is a muslim, not born here and they all show up to rallies when Glenn Beck tells them too...misspelled signs and all. If your comment was actually serious and not sarcastic, please watch this whole youtube video: /watch?v=ht8PmEjxUfg

  • @Saebeck32 hey look a lib-troll.

  • Buddhist priest? Pfft.....racists. :P

  • I DO love Bob Hope.... but he has WAY Funnier one liners,.... but he is known to take cheap shots at Dems, and as far as i'm concerned, its open season on ALL politicians..... THEIR ALL WHORES.....lol ((( my favorite bob hope quotes-... "“My father told me all about the birds and the bees, the liar - I went steady with a woodpecker till I was twenty-one.”" (and-...) "“Kids are wonderful, but I like mine barbecued.”" (((well, it made me laugh when i was a kid anyway)))

  • Demicunts, Republicunts,..... aside from offering us two Remarkably different choices of staid political Rhetoric, we still end up with the same short sighted "pass it on" spending policies, so that the well represented elite can skim as much $ as their coffers can hold. and leave precious little behind for the rest of humanity. as long as politicians are sucking from the lobbyist Teet, the end result is Ultimately the same........ our Country gets Fleeced By the "Robber Barons" of the day.

  • Not all democrats are like the description in the video. Just look at the occupy protesters; they have no leader to mindlessly follow.

  • @JumpingonYubTub : With all due respect........I continue waiting to hear the point of their "occupations"

  • @Harpenfarker The fact that big banks were allowed to bet against people's ability to pay their mortgages they issued! Don't you think that should be illegal? They are protesting wealth inequality, big business's influence over our gov't. The notion that we can apparently afford HUGE tax cuts for the rich, but not healthcare for the uninsured!! That is what OWS is protesting.

  • @Saebeck32 banks were forced to bet against peoples ability to pay, through democrat policy's, requiring them to hand out loans to people who they knew would not be able to pay, it was the government that gambled believing that property values would never fall, that eventually caused the housing bubble and market crash. that combined with uncontrolled spending on both sides of the isle. we can't afford to tax the rich any more, not without further damaging the economy and driving up unemployment

  • @Saebeck32 watch "EAT THE RICH! "watch?feature=player_embedded&v=661pi6K-8WQ

  • democrats, pre-southern strategy.

  • clever stuff

  • @Jojoateyt i know right

  • Who else was waiting to hear, "in the twilight zone"?

  • Delicious. The Democrats were always like this? Good grief, zombies on the left and body snatchers on the right. Are we lucky or what?

  • I would say the opposite

  • Hope is great as usual, but he didn't have to exactly work for this one with that wonderful zombie line to bounce off of.

  • Today it shouldve been changed to like democrats and republicans? our country has so many people following like blind pricks. america is in need of a mass head out of ass extraction.

  • 2507 zombies.

  • People get a sense of humor. It is funny, that's all. stop the debating and stupidity.. :)

  • @alitosbigears

Bush or whomever, it will always be the cheneys and Rumsfelds who run the place.

With a little help from their banker freinds

  • @3801cc

    Keep on drinking that Kool-Aid.

  • It's funny cause it's true XD

  • hahaha

  • LMAO. That was so unexpected.

  • Bob Hope is a legend, great delivery every time.

Why can't some of you get past political anger (you know who you are), laugh a little and enjoy the moment. It works for me.

  • @EntomologyPurdue

How does saying the agenda of the Republican party have anything to do with being a control freak? If any one nation could be called a "control freak" it would be America. That is why you still have troops in Japan and Germany.

I live in Canada. I mainly watch American programs, in fact CNN is probably one of my most watched stations. I know more about American politics than most Americans, and I never been there! That's actually quite sad.

  • @Leafs81Chick CNN= Commuinst News Network. When you said that you get your news form CNN I spit my coke all over my computer screen.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!!!!

  • Seeing Im not from "United Kingdom of America" I can see why this line was funny.

  • 2498 people are niggers

  • This is the funniest shit I have ever watched. So smooth.

  • like walkers

  • @HillSavage72

Aww, what's wrong? Did I hit a nerve? Well that's too bad. Suck it up, dumb-dumb.

  • All liberals worldwide are...

  • he should have said "like American husbands"

  • @Woggyflush so funny I forgot to laugh.

  • Republican agenda;

    1950's - "fuck the blacks"

    1960's & 1970's - "fuck peace"

    1980's - "fuck the poor"

1990's - "fuck those who need government"

2000's - "fuck the Muslims, poor, gay, intelligent, and liberals"

2008-2011 - "fuck that God damn [racial remark] that we have for our President. [racial remark] [gun shot]. Oh, also, fuck the poor, homeless, liberals, Muslims, centrists, atheists, immigrants, and especially fuck those who can't afford healthcare."

Hmm, I'd stick with the zombie Dems,

  • @Leafs81Chick Wow you couldnt be more clueless. That zombie line in the video fits you perfectly. You are exactly what they are talking about.

  • @Leafs81Chick I'm a conservative and I have to say that is hillarious but oh so sad and true!

  • @Leafs81Chick You sound like a old basement dweller when you try to be politically correct.

  • @Leafs81Chick Let me continue for you:

    Republican agenda;

1930's - "fuck helping the middle class through the depression"

    1940s - "fuck roosevelt"

1950s - "fuck freedom, we have McCarthyism!"

1990s - "fuck your minimum wage & fuck your unions"

2000s - "fuck the poor, the rich are better"

    2000 - "fuck elections"

2004-2008 - "fuck stem cell even though it has been proven in Germany to cure AIDS"

2011 - "fuck your jobs because we want more of our own"

  • @redreaper2020 You're the most stupid person on earth.

  • @redreaper2020

    Liberal Agenda:

1930's: whine and bitch about everything

1950's: whine and bitch about everything

1970's: whine and bitch about everything

2000's: sit in Sbux complaining how "lifes not fair" and "ppl should be equal and shit" while listening to plain white T's on ur $2,000 macbook and drinking $5 iced coffees

  • @rapidpossumsex Yes, we know FDR "wined and bitched". The Civil Rights movement was just "whining and bitching".

Also, ironic you mention "the 2000s". I've been in "Sbux" maybe twice in my life, I don't even know what the "plain white T's" are, don't have a mac, and don't drink faggot drinks. I have a blue-collar job, a cheap $400 laptop, and I drink mostly beer or coke. So, nope.

  • @redreaper2020 Democrat agenda:

    all time - "BE STUPID"

  • @N0WAR1337 haha. You list your name as "nowar1337" then blast the opposition to the party which started the last 2 wars? Nice.

Modern democratic agendas are actually near-copies of the Republican agendas of the 1950s.

  • @redreaper2020 Oh look a another useless lib troll.

  • @SuperRocketPug how kind of you. Nice to know bigotry is alive and well in teh 21st century. And you can't even be as cool as Archie Bunker.

  • @redreaper2020 How am I a bigot, I called you a useless troll , which from looking at how many times you commented on this video, you are.

  • @SuperRocketPug you call me useless and a troll, throwing in "lib" as an insult (I'm a staunch social conservative, despite being a "dem"). Maybe I've commented because i find it crude. Maybe because people get too wrapped up in politics. Maybe because modern republican policy is, to me, "obstruct any change"--but I entertain alternatives, moderations, reasoning, debate, or compromise, all with enthusiasm. I don't go "another useless elephant"

    Just throwin' it out there.

  • @redreaper2020 Dude calm down. If it makes feel better then am sorry I called you useless, but your still a troll.

  • @redreaper2020 Ah yes, that constant need for "change," which in the mind of many Dems, is change simply for the sake of change, no matter if something is already working for the greatest amount of people. But in the minds of many Dems, if five people out of a hundred aren't being served, and if those five people represent a "specially protected" group, the policy MUST be changed for the sake of that five. This reasoning is why the GOP despises Dems, among other reasons.

  • @KUTVgroucho no. Not at all. if we ignore those 5, they'll BITCH AND MOAN IN CONGRESS AND THE SENATE AND FILIBUSTER ANY ATTEMPT TO MAKE ANY PROGRESS WHATSOEVER.

  • @Leafs81Chick fuck you.

  • The last secound was funniest

  • that was funny..glad i hung in there lol

  • The saddest thing is that Democrats have turned into radical Marxists / Progressives who are hell bound to control everyone and own and operate everything, and Republicans have turned into those old zombie Democrats who just don't care anymore, just as Bob Hope described. We need to kick them all out, and take back our country and restore liberty and prosperity to this great nation. It is no longer run by the people, but by the Marxist monsters and the zombies. It's down right scarey !

  • LMAO

  • Lewis Black said it best. "What's the difference between a Republican and a Democrat? Easy. A Republican sucks, a Democrat blows."

  • You guys do realize that the party roles have switched since this was made? The Democrats were the equivilent of modern Republicans until around the 1960s, when the parties more or less switched roles, and this movie was made in 1940

  • It's made even more perfect by all of the butt-hurt Democrats pretending it isn't hilarious. Or that it somehow applies to Republicans now instead of them. Nope, a half century later you still want nanny government paid for by somebody else.

  • describes liberal behavior perfectly... libs follow the same old tired mantra of "everyone should share everything"....nice IDEAL...but it can NEVER work

  • dude.......pack your bags and move out of 1950 into 2011......60 years of drastic change doesnt even make this remotely funny!!!!
