If I can play shit like this but cannot read music do you think I'd be able to study classical guitar in college??? or is that a requirement for most colleges??
@readymade98 The thing about studying guitar in college is you need to learn classical technique, reading, and musicality. Plus making a nylon string guitar sound this good is really hard. But if you're up for the challenge do it, classical will build your chops and make you the best guitar player you'll ever be.
i agree with you! berta rojas's rendition "sounds slightly better" at my ears, though.
for some year ago, one could listen at the swedish maestro, göran söllscher, playing it live in tokyo, unfortunetaly, due to copyright infringement, i guess, youtube deleted if.
good feelin when you play that´s a good point and i see you are so dedicate to choose your repertory nice song excellent repertory and great sound of your guitar and play so clear and slow little pieces really nice good performance. congratulations
Hej Jason! Such a beautiful perfomance, thanks! It would be great that someone like you play one of my pieces. Please will you listen to my guitarpiece "Maestral" and give some coments, I will apriciate it, thank you.
@Orange1117 my point was merely meant as a compliment to Jasons interpretation of this piece, and that, as a regular working person, I could not devote the time required to play at this level. While I'm aware that he was not born that way. I am aware that he decided at a young age to persue the guitar, and likely spent many hours of many days practicing. As a middleaged working man I cannot devote that kind of time. So my playing will only reach a certain level because of that. Cheers and thx :)
@poupee58 Well as a fellow performer of his works I have come to the opposite conclusion, as I have with most of the opinions regarded by Mr. Segovia.
@GyveTurckee I agree, I am not as impressed with Segovia' s opinions of as I am of his significance and influence on the resurrection of classical guitar.
@Joelcct Sure he was a guiding light for its "resurrection", certainly his Bach transcriptions are legendary forerunners to the modern classical, but he was so error prone and sloppy; guaranteed Segovia at his very best would not win the GFA. I've been learning the Sonata Clasica by Ponce via Segovia's version and it is fraught with mis-fingerings, wrong postions, and even wrong notes. Not to mention the famous D# to D-natural in the final system of Sor's Etude #6.... Cheers :)
Hey Jason, thanks for the great recordings. I have a strange question for you, is that guitar smaller than full size or are you just a very large person? It looks almost like a 3/4 size guitar, compared to you!
I love this piece. I heard one of the older guitarists in my studio play it. I finally got the go- ahead to learn it from my professor, Erik Mann, of whom I just learned is/ was your student and works with you at the Cleveland Institute, am I right in this?
This video is my inspiration while I learn this beautiful piece. Not that I'd ever be able to play it as wonderfully as this, but hey it good to have goals right ?
@Bacteriod You're right but you're also wrong. True, it's good to have goals, but you're wrong when you say you'll never play this piece like Maestro Vieaux. You can, you just have to go for it through strong practice and studying hard. Jason Vieaux wasn't born being the guitarrist and musician he is today. he had a dream, and turned it into a goal. Then he made it happen, through strong practice and studying hard. You can also do it, the same way he did: fighting for it. Best lucks my friend ;)
It is offcourse not a matter of better or worse - as in mathematics e.g - but a matter of taste .Personnally I enjoy the sound and interpretations of Jason Vieaux very much .Looking beyond the guitar and listening as a musician it sounds very natural and yet sensitive and that cannot be said of all players imo.
he is very tall... that guitar looks like a toy... anyway thats pretty but if you are trying to play it dont try to play like him... make your own interpretation... people always is trying to play songs like other.... Saludos de CHILE!!!
as someone that has just stumbled upon this site and music, i am overwhlmed, his intonation, technique, compassion for the guitar and his love for music is heart stopping..
Hey, you probably dont know me, but I remember when you came to Nepal..i was a young kid. My dad was a huge fan of yours. I love this piece. Thanks for putting up here. My father's name is Santosh Singh. I got lots of pictures of your performances in my house..please write me back if you will. It will be very highly appreciated.
I've heard just about every Julia F. on youtube. Mr. Vieaux, your version is by far the best. The heart felt emotion of this piece has always been personal to me and you truly expressed it. It's miraculous. Thank you.
I have well heard Mr. Russel's version and IMO his confused phrase takes all the magic out of the piece. Without the slightest hesitation Mr Vieaux is my favourite. There is an understanding in his interpretation of the emotional elements in the music.
Jason- I love your playing. A young guitarist with a romantic heart..beautiful. Here's hoping to see you in Connecticut. All the best for a great career.
That was absolutely incredible. One of the best performances of any piece I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot) the emotion you put into every phrase and every beat really made the music sound alive and three-dimensional. This is how guitar music is meant to sound! Beautiful.
wow! its a small world. i went to CIM with this guy. a nice guy and wonderful guitarist. i am a pianist first but i do dabble on the guitar. i could never do this though. my technical limit on the guitar is at about the Van Halen level(played crappily, lol) i need to listen to some more classical guitar music. you guys have suggestions about who and what to listen to. any info would be great. CIM pride
I have heard the big names in guitar ruin this piece but this man got it right. If you read the poem that goes along with this piece from Augustin it is beautiful.
... I took it and obeying Tupa's command I held it close to my heart. Embracing it I passed many moons on the edge of a spring fountain And one night, Yacy (the moon, our mother), Reflected in the crystal liquid, Feeling the sadness of my Indian soul, Gave me six silver moonbeams With which to discover its secrets. And the miracle took Place: From the bottom of the mysterious box, There come forth a marvelous symphony Of all the virgin voices of America." Agustín Barrios Mangoré
What a fantastic guitarist you are, and how small I am... I would be so pleased to play like you was playing a long time ago (to play like you will stay just a dream).
Thank you so much for this great moment. I am full of light, more now than before!

Dear Jason,Find the important moment in a phrase...
accelerando wildly up to it.Tenuto all of a sudden
out of it.Before the reality of the tenuto over-
whelms the structure,a tempo out of it.Musicians
are most afraid of accelerando, which is the necessary
irrationality to create an irreplaceable sense
of improvisatory discovering.Don't be afraid.
