That's why I started listening to Bluegrass. Country today seems to me that it is a mix of pop and Southern Rock. It's as if country music has been extinguished somehow. Also I have to listen to online streaming radio sites because not many stations will air Bluegrass or real country.
is doesnt matter if the music 2 day isnt so good b cause there is a whole history of great music 2 listen 2 and watch. personally I rarely listen 2 todays music and i enjoy the search 4 that lil 1 that makes me smile and sing and dance and wish they were still here making such great music.
Much better than the recorded version, which is a good song but too overproduced and saccharine in my opinion. This the raw heart of that same song. Plus Mr. Jones is really on form and not too stoned or drunk to show off his gift. No wonder the crowd go bonkers at the end.
@cf1934 I like both versions, I think Jones is the greatest singer ever, and Elvis the greatest entertainer ever, just my opinion, but I encourage people to listen to both. Elvis' version is more of a slow R&B/bluesy version. Love both of em :)
This is one great video and I really enjoyed it. There will be so many that will always enjoy both of these great artists. Then to think we have Georgette now also to enjoy.
Great song by a great country artist. Grew up listening to him when I was young but did not appreciate his music til much later. My parents had his albums. I had Jimmy Buffett and Bruce Springsteen, but found they all sung about life and the real world. My parents are both deceased so hearing this brings mixed emotions. Love the song but brings a sadness. Maybe that's what we all love about him. Classic country voice. (BTW, James Taylor does a terrific cover of this.)
Perfection comes along once in a lifetime... so y'all better appreciate what a treasure we have in George Jones. You and I will never see anyone better...
I believe it has just been in the last few years he stopped playing guitar due to issues with his back and legs, and also being almost 80 yrs old...George is still the best.
Great post. Love that guy. On the subject of Canada and the US, I think that there is a certain amount of competitiveness between the two, but really we're just like scrapping brothers. Or at the very least cousins. Not only do we share the same continent, but we are free to move back and forth, share common traditions, music, etc. Love you all.
@lakeland666 you are 100% correct on that statement: They most definitely do not make country music like this anymore. All we hear on the radio now-a-days is pop music. I find very little heart in true country music on todays radio. Not saying it's not there - but there is so much re-manufactured pop music claiming to be country that just doesn't "cut the mustard" anymore.
I've been in PA for 3 months, going from bar to bar playing George's music and referring to him as the Possum and NOBODY even knows what I'm talking about. That Mason Dixon line is something.
I got the great oportunity work set up for the Possum at the Capital Music Hall in Wheeling West Virginia for several years in a row, and at every show there was always some people from Canada. I was present in Franklin, TN for "Fans at the Farm" in 2004 and there were a bunch of people from Canada there. I salute you, you Canadians really know what good music is!
oh the sweet memories. I've seen him twice in concert...the last one being a few months ago. all i had to do was follow the long trail of 1987 buicks and cadillacs and i found the place
