  • WOW! FANTASTICA!!!!!

  • schande, verrat.

    brava sumi

  • I love her rendition , more ease than kathleen battle in the coloratura , although miss Battle remain supreme in that aria , of class , elegance and soul.

  • I am applauding and shouting "brava" watching this at home.

  • BRAVA DIVA

  • wow!!!!!

  • minunat

  • minunata ca si carmen

  • fain

  • @espiritolivre63 MUCHAS GRACIAS POR EL COMENTARIO!!!!

  • How jealous I am. She gets to sing an aria with Joan's ornaments, probably molded so diligently into her throat by the same man. Brava!

  • she has such a magnificent coloratura. i love it. it ranks up there with the dame. well almost. sumi jo is still amazing though!

  • I've always appreciated her voice.

  • shes so beautiful!

  • so schlecht

aber sie ist gany stoly auf sich

    mamamiya

  • people are comparing her and battle but they sound like 2 different damn arias, LOL! there nothing alike. I'll take Kathleen battle for 500 alex. But Sumi is not bad at all and sounds great just perfer battle voice and style thats all

  • lol @

    JuillHope17

how do you end up seeing this?.........

  • I'm doing this Aria for my LTCL singing exam at the end of this year. I hope I will sing it as well as Sumi Jo. she sings it so well.

  • BRAVA I LOVE YOU

  • Spinto tenor 83 you asked about Sills and it is back on and yes I agree with you.

  • this is one of the truest examples of a very versatile colorature in today's world. she can do the bell song with the light coloratura sound you expect her to have, but also whack this out with the power of a lyric if not SPINTO soprano.

  • you have GOT to be kidding me. lyric or spinto soprano? no.

  • Spinto?!? Soubrette with coloratura facility.

  • no no, i'm not calling her one, so calm the fuck down before you get rude. i was just saying that the power of her voice at times can be that of a lyric or spinto soprano, but by no means is she one. she can barely get through violetta, even at the height of her career she couldn't. but her voice it self can have the power at times, just not consistently throughout an entire, opera, maybe a concert though. jeez, rude.

  • to add to my comment though, i love how in between her cadenzas she just throws in random words from the libretto of this song, cause she's not exactly sure where she is, lol. look at a score for this song, and you'll see what i mean, because it's pretty funny.

  • I understand what you are trying to say about the power of her voice.. When she lets it out, it's definitely bigger than the typical coloratura. Her voice is even bigger now than it was when she did this concert.

  • I appreciate your comments, JuillHope17. They are very insightful. And I agree.

  • I commented else where that I don't know the first thing about opera but it's becoming addictive!

  • Spectacular! She has marvelous control of her own voice.

  • The only thing I don't care for about Sumi Jo is that she takes WAY too many liberties. There's no constant tempo, and she's skipping over scales she could do easily. Not that I blame her, O Luce Di Quest Anima is one of those songs singers tend to just do whatever they want with. It's a show off piece XD

  • MAN!!! There's a reason why she's #1!!!

Who...I mean WHO sounds like her??

    NO ONE!

Her technique, quality of voice, stage presence, ease of singing...just everything.

    FLAWLESS!!!

LOVE HER LOVE HER LOVE HER!

As an aspiring opera singer, I can only vow my head in humbleness.

  • Kathleen Battle.

  • dilber yunus

  • oh my God Listen to that note at 02:27. Impossible LOL

  • Perfect. Fine example of a very fine singing.

  • Love the aria - love her- love the dress- fabbo!!

  • Sounds like an angel, looks like she killed and skinned a Muppet for that dress...

  • omg i think that's the funniest bad-dress comment i have ever heard!!!

  • Either a muppet or Bobby Trendy, lol.

  • Brava Bravissima!!!

  • Beautiful voice,

    AWFUL DRESS

  • she could do with another dress. really. other than that, very pretty.

  • Christ! get over yourselves! The woman is STUNNING! Interpretation is of course paramount but there has to be the technique there to consolidate a truly great performance. This lady has it all! Innit!

  • I completely agree with you. There is a quite a distance between those who can do it and those who stand on the sidelines and offer their "expert" opinions. Are we suppose to be all enlightened by such wisdom??! Don't kid yourself! I pity the fool.

  • There is a thin line between between vocal ability and musical taste. This one is a paramount example. Battle's and Jo's renditions are at the so very extreme opposites that we can only compare them to explain the difference between taste and distaste. Battle's exquisite and warm rendition of this aria as opposed to Jo's somewhat plastically technical and over-ornate Bellini's show-off aria can only confirm that being able to sing well does not equal true artistic merit.

  • Brava!!!!!!!

  • Is very great!!...she has a very beautiful voice, but I like most Maria Callas

  • Well, I guess becuase I am such a lover of this aria I will say this. I am happy with both Sumi Jo's and Battle's performances. As far as technique, Battle is a bit better. Beverly Sill's by far is the best interpreter of this aria. For some reason it disappeared off of you tube but I would say that it is actually one of the the most thrilling performances I have ever seen and heard recorded or live. Jo and Battle are considered tip tier singers and they are rightly so.

  • AWESOME like usual!!!

  • amen... absolutely amazing piece by sumi jo.

  • I loved her singing here. Her "Lakme" sucked.

  • she's so hot too!

  • She`s a true queen!THE BEST!!!

There's no doubt any longer... Still, I gave a chance to Ms. Battle to beat Sumi, but I already knew it was impossible... I`ve seen many sopranos: Battle, Callas, Montserrat, Natalie Dessay and others... And NO ONE was better and had a pretier voice combined with the most precise technique as Sumi Jo!

Actually, there were some with beautiful voices, like Ms. Battle, but her technique doesn't come any close to Ms. Jo`s technique!Sumi Jo is the true divina!

  • perfectly sung by Sumi Jo - as ever !

  • I appreciate Sumi Jo' dazzling coloratura!

  • very clear...

  • As long as I have been into opera, I only recently starting listening to this jewel of the singling world....what a voice...I simply adore her! Brava!

  • Wow, isn't she incredible? Thank you, Sumi, for your flawless singing!

  • Incredible fantastic well sung!

    Brava , Bravissima

  • Brava Sumi Jo! That was Yummy!!

  • Bravisima! Flawless!! I can see her technique sometimes but who cares?? She is one of the best coloratura sopranos of our times!

  • Sumi Jo definitely distinguishes herself from the other leggero sopranos, because she not only has a crystalline and girlish voice, but she also has a technique that most singers would just dream to have! You can't find any noticeable flaw in her singing, and this sense of spontaneity and vocal steadiness in Bel Canto is really priceless! ;-D

  • wow. my FAVORITE soprano for this role! Wow... does anyone know what her title role is?

  • Her title roles are Queen of the Night (Magic Flute), Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoore), Elvira (I Puritani), Amina (La Sonnambula), Gilda (Rigoletto), Lakme (Lakme), and so on.

  • well, each singer is said to have one title role...one that they were designed to sing, so that's what i was asking about.

  • i think that it is not easy to say "One Title Role" of a opera singer. However, it may be possible to say a significant role. Sumi Jo's Significant role is queen of the night of Magic Flute. ... However, I like her Lucia, Zerbinetta, Amina, Elvira than her Queen of the Night!

  • @smoothiw To add to that list are Marie from Fille Du Regiment, Sophie from Der Rosenkavalier, Oscar from Ballo Un Maschera, Violetta from La Traviata, Olympia from Contes D'Hoffmann, Countess from Comte Ory, Rosina from Barbier de Seville, and Giuletta from Capuleti e Montechi.

  • @Drelnis You know well ! Barvo ! :)

  • PERFECT SUMI JO!!!!!!!!!!!

  • THIS is the definition of PERFECTION! BRAVA SUMI, BRAVA!!!

  • BRAVISSIMA!!!!!!!!
