There is great beauty in Stravinsky's interpretation of primal instinct, violence, and asymmetry. I would like to see more choreographers find solutions to the elements of beauty in Le Sacre, rather than translating the awkward, ancient nature of the score so literally. :) <3
well fantasia incorperated this song into it but this is not in anyway Disney you dumb shit sucking, father fucking, cock licking, chode eating, faggot fucking turd
no it hink correcting typos in an online formatt such as this is crap..., and someone who cannot tell the differance between typos and misspelled words isan idiot as are you
Those idiots in the background almost ruined it for me, lol. The imagery of a girl dancing herself to death in the circle of elders is interesting though, but I don't know.. As important and genius as this song allegedly is, it doesn't really phase my untrained ears. Or perhaps that's just because music has become more radical in general, and this piece is mostly significant in context of the time it was composed. In which case, it has my respect, but again I'm not really in awe or anything.
The piece was written as a ballet. Those "idiots in the background" are supposed to be there. And yes at this point this isnt terribly radical, but it is still incredible music.
As always, Porat shows us that the individual body is a temporal fixation of atoms, and the mind a temporal arrest of spiritual powers, which in their released state compose the currents of matter and power in the world of spring. In part, this is a self-limiting notion: the consciousness easily becomes a jail, or a paradise, due to the unavoidable limitations of inheritance. A man can't be an *engineer* and a poet.
Totally agreed. Igor was a genius no doubt about it. Still sounds as wild and mysterious even today. Hollywood composers have raped the hell outta Mr. Stravinsky's achievements.
I thought he was reli conducting very well... thn started to wonder whter he is alright.... lol... still it was good.... i think it wud have been gr8 for the audience if he faced them... lol
I love the song, but what the hell is the dancing in the background all about? Like, seriously, I've spent this entire time trying to figure out what it could possibly symbolize and I've got nothing.
well i think stravinsky wrote this piece with the image of a group of elders seated in a circle, watching a young girl dance herself to death. They were sacrificing her to the god of spring. i guess that's why the dance seems so demonic.
Actually, it was the music more so because it was so out of the ordinary. This music is for a ballet yet It really doesn't sound like it. He made odd choices such as using a bassoon to play nearly out of its range. Stravinsky broke the barriers of music with very odd harmonies and harshness. The choreography did help cause the riot but it wasn't the ONLY reason why the riot occured. And yes I believe Stravinky was an AWESOME composer but I'm not sure if the audience back then agreed.
I appreciate the musical movement he essentially started and I can understand how this piece is important to music history. I also can see how it would evoke feelings to tick people off to start a riot, however I personally am not a fan. I appreciate pieces that are less... harsh.
*I do like the fact that I envision the Lion King scene where the stampede kills his daddy though... so sad =(
hey do u guys know if this is the peice that was played in france that caused a riot?!!? my teacher said that by then end the peice ppl were beating up each other..i dunno if its this one though
Yes, this piece was the cause of a riot amongst the Parisians of the day (1913), and thus was the center of much controversy at the times. In effect, it wasn't the music, but rather the dancing that really caused the riot. Or, in layman's terms: Paris-people no likey funky dancing. Happy?
YES YES YES. Tear down that wall!!! When watching Boulez' equestrian Sacre with my six year old, he commented that the conductor should be riding on the horses as well. I thought, WOW, maybe he's right. Then I see this! Cool!
The last part of "Mystic Circles of the Young Girls," "The Glorification of the Chosen One," and the beginning chord for "Evocation of the Ancestors."
no its not atonal, it uses to much harmonies for that , but it is full of expression and therefore a very notable and great piece of work , i can imagine people were really fuckin surprised to hear this in 1913 :P lol
Woah, I love the tempo he takes that at! It sounds really good at that faster tempo. His movements are so crazy too. At first I didn't read that he was taking part in the dance, so I thought he had just gone mad partway through the recording. Great upload!

you obviously didn't understand my comment bellend. its atonal and uses too much percussion. i don't like the composition. i kinda studied music beanlud bellend and know its significance in modern music...doesn't mean i have to like it. so lick my crack.
ARE YOU CRAZY!!!!! Beethoven was great with the use of the whole orchestra and Vivaldi was great with string, but Stranvinsky was the genius of percussion and multi-tempo and atonality, its wasn't meant to be beautiful and ethereal, it was me to be bloody, earthly and HUMAN, but if you dont like it, then i guess something's wrong with you.... no just kidding, tell me what's your favorite piece
Good or bad is a matter of opinon, just because the masses say it's in the top 5 compositions of all time dosen't mean someone HAS to like it. By that logic I guess everyone should love kanye west cause he sold 6 million copies of his new CD. Denial of what? His opinon?
Me gustó la forma pedagógica en que presenta la inmortal obra de Stravinsky. En cuanto a su dirección tiene el sello de una exhuberante e impetuosa juventud.

Still, funny that this provoked people to riot.
But then again I suppose the French do love a bit of grève.
