  • Both their voices are amazing and so soothing, thanks for uploading :)

  • @bunnyhunny221 thanks for listening

  • I love this women. What a terrific duet. Thanks for sharing!

  • thanks for listening

  • Black or white, no matter. Wonderful women, awesome singers.

  • I think this could be the best of female duets ever. Truly spirited, engaging, and entertaining. What it must have been like to see this live... Thanks for posting.

  • @2wattsout thanks for listening

  • the great ella what nice to hear at any time

    thank you

  • No wonder that rumor spread for so many years that Dinah had one black parent. She had that magical bell-like voice. She's just a musical southern girl who grew up singing gospel and jazz. Perfect pairing with Ella. No wonder they loved singing together so much.

  • la verdad q no sabia q Dinah tuvieras familiares negros, pero su voz es hermosa y junto a la de Ella hacen un acople perfecto, las amo!

  • @MrMusicProphet and Dinah was Jewish!

  • @MrMusicProphet Who cares about one black parent, what a load of horse shit. You are the rumor, you are the one that brought all of us here. So you need to be black to have the magic, not a magical voice....

  • @yusoupoff So Yusoupoff, are you normally that defensive? You should really read the whole comment before you respond so harshly. I was merely referring to ignorant northerners of the 1940s and 50s who spread the rumor. They didn't realize that anyone who grew up in Nashville singing gospel in churches would have a special something in their voice. They used to say the same thing about Elvis. I was a Dinah and Ella fan since before you were born so calm down kid.

  • @MrMusicProphet My apologies. I haven't a clue of what you're speaking of. I didn't make a comment on this video. That isn't me who made the rude remark 23 hours ago. Sorry

  • dinah was from memphis, so she probably grew up hearing the blues. it looks like she was just having a ball here, she was getting to sing with someone she really admired, and was getting to wail.

  • Need to see this whenever I'm feeling low. It's, somehow, a remedy. And Thank You.

  • @mrewetoobish for nothing, to you for listening

  • what a treat, thank you :)

  • what a treat, thank you :)

  • Wow...at 1:26 Ella comes pretty close to throwing Dinah off track.

  • in the freakin ZOOOOONE :))))!...

  • WOW!!! This was a LOT OF WORK that looked totally easy and fun! How great they both were...

  • Tear it up!!!!!!!

  • I love Dinah Shore and Ella Fitzgerald!!!

  • i know there were rumors about dinah shore's ancestry. i think they were just that, rumors. it doesn't really matter, but i think part of it, was she was willing to sing with black artists, in an era when it just wasn't done. sinatra did too, but people weren't gonna threaten him. and back then it was a big deal, look at carol channing. she waited until she was in her 80's to tell everyone that she was passing for white.

  • This a perfect example of the difference between being an Entertainer and being just a Performer. These Women are Entertainers and lady gaga is just a lame performer. These Women's careers started in honkie tonks,Big Bands on the road, stage, radio, and Night Clubs with Live audience and anything can happen. At this point in their lives ella and dinah had crafted and refine every part of their acts. Something you can't not do on Youtube.

  • I prefer lip syncing and autotuned singers. (sarcasm)

  • I always have to come back for more of this.

  • this is drug for me :)

  • Wow. Can't believe how amazing their voices mesh together.. And what's up with their ridiculous ability to be so flawless over a whole 6 minutes of non-stop incredibleness??

What a standard they set for their day.

Really the best we'll ever see for a very long time.

  • WOW! Those gals were ROCKIN' it HARD!!! :^D

  • incredible collab!

  • Dinah and Ella were class acts all the way!

  • This is q\uite excellent...their harmonies are flawless, the music arrangement is tops, with the key and tempo changes.. Two talented women that really seemed to enjoy singing together.

  • I love this!

  • the best

  • OMG *speechless*

  • When we think about it, everything was live, at the time.

The band was changing tempo on the fly and the singers were following instantly.

We don't see talents like that today, that's for sure...

  • excellent, just excellent to bad there isn't music like this any more what a treat to hear and experience.

  • If this is the only clip of mankind that survives our short time on this planet, it did not get better than this!!! Love you Dinah and Ella!

  • Now THIS is what I say is MUSIC!!!!!!enchanting

  • Ella the Queen of Jazz singing with a relaxed and classy Dinah Shore. No tickets bought will bring them back.Miss the Dinah show.We can still listen..Thanks for posting!

  • Excellent. Two favourites.

  • this is probably the best one of these ive ever heard. you cant get better

  • This never gets old!

  • @MrPistolMason-not one artist! Few can attempt, but these two were the Real Thing ("like butter"). Neither are there songs of this caliber today. Everything today is sequenced and programmed-Gone are the full bands/orchestras also.

  • These gals are swinging -- nothing but class and talent!

  • @1curbfeeler You took the words right out of my lips . . . the ladies had talent, and some to spare. Can you think of anyone today that can pull this off, no cut-aways. I can't.

  • One ounce of something like this is worth more than a ton

of most current perfomers. Professionalism in singing and

with superb accompaniment like this is RARE. 5 stars, and then some.

  • Ella was awesome!

  • There is a third song, sounds like it's I Got a Man, followed by Blues in the Morning. In other words it's a Medley.

  • The first two songs are by W.C. Handy -- "Memphis Blues" and then "St. Louis Blues." Not sure about the rest. A lot of blues songs use the same lyrics (e.g. "sleeps in the kitchen with his feet in the hall"), so it's hard to know.

I also wouldn't be surprised if (after "St. Louis Blues") Ella and Dinah are weaving together several snippets of semi-obscure tunes or even made up their own bluesy melodies using a host of "classic" blues lyrics.

  • @robertgalbreath1 My Bad. you are absolutely correct . the first song is in fact "Memphis Blues" and then segued into "St Louis Blues".

  • brilliant! love ella. what is the name of this song??

  • @MissMJones92 the first song is in fact "Memphis Blues" and then segued into "St Louis Blues".

  • amazing

  • @phmike69 I agree. Not to mention I follow the men's wear styles of these best dressed stars from that era, such as Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and Sean Connery as James Bond.

  • Does anybody know the name of this song?

  • @CAR0L1492. The song is "St. Louis Blues" (pronounced "lou-ee". Very popular tune in the 30s, and 40s and on.

  • @robertgalbreath1 My Bad. absolutely correct "gokinsmen". the first song is in fact "Memphis Blues" and then segued into "St Louis Blues". There is a song called "Blues in the Night" to which the arranger seems to give a nod, but it's not exactly the melody. Anyhoo, what a FABULOUS vid!

  • @CAR0L1492 . the first song is "Memphis Blues" and then segued into "St Louis Blues".

  • absollutely excecllent ! thank you for posting

  • @echo680 for nothing, thank you

  • @echo680 We'll never forget who the best are!

  • um...really? why is this brilliance so hard to come by? I mean really.....

  • I enjoyed the Dinah Shore show as a kid. I really appreciate the fact that Ms. Shore never looked down on comments made early in her career about being black; a revelation (if proven true), could have obviously limited her career considerably. However, I do believe that there is some truth to the rumor just judging from her early photos. RIP Ms. Shore.

  • @shannonD68 Dinah was a Jewish girl from Tennessee-- yes, there are Jewish families there, and in every state. Although her coloring was quite fair, her features seemed just slightly Afrocentric, which spurred those rumors. I also heard them plenty of times, always in a cruel way. To my knowledge, she never directly addressed those rumors, but there's no way she wasn't keenly aware of them. But Dinah wasn't above doing some false public relations of her own, the Burt Reynolds romance.

  • I love it!!!!

  • brutal

  • I am a fan of both women.

  • This is still the greatest. The vocals are wonderful and watching the interaction between the two really makes it out-of-this-world! The two truly seem to enjoy each other. Dinah seems to almost "feed" of Ella's talent and really belts out. Much fun to watch!

  • i'm looking for an ella mahalia duet

  • marixpress, me too

  • i can watch this all day! two of the great ones....

  • amazing singers

  • Now this is true talent this crap today is HORRIBLE. Listen to that sweet LIVE harmony I love singing the bottom right along with this video . Sounds so good. May they both rest in peace. I hope that music comes back to life, and away from the looks. True talent is sprinkled hidden all over america. They probably practiced once lol. Great Vid. Thanks for the post.

  • @jaybekeepnitreal not all music is crap today there ARE some good artists

  • @Zaebolista I love th

  • That was incredible.

  • they were able to have variety shows back then because there were real talents out there. today we have music videos in which we can detect the talent of the film editor but certainly not of the performer, and we have reality shows, in which talent, good taste or anything remotely engaging are all in short supply.

  • I wish they still had shows like this on tv

  • Pure joy last 2 minutes WOW

  • Dang! If you're not clapping and laughing in last 2 minutes of this video you will never get it

  • Quand on écoute cela , on est triste pour Cette pauvre camila Jordana qui se prend pour une chanteuse !

  • I love this medley! Ella's got something from Dinah Washington

  • Dinah Shore Chevy Show

    Season 7, Episode 7 Aired: 3/17/1963

    March 17, 1963

Dinah welcomes Ella Fitzgerald and Joan Sutherland in this salute to St. Patrick's Day show.

  • Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU! Two inspirations in my life, doing it the way it should always be done!

  • I really love them and I love this song! They are GREAT :)

  • Amazing. I love it.

  • There is a lot of energy in this song, and ladies are so nice :) Extra!!

  • Really complicated arrangement by my lights - goes on forever at top speed. They're both snapping and swingin' and sweating buckets toward the end - WHOA DAMN I just caught the big finish. Jesus. I need a cigarette after that.

  • Ladies and gentlemen this is what actual woman sound like who have a talent to sing the notes right out of a song! There is not a singer today who could come close to this stunning performance!

  • @himycatsdead There are two women singing here.

  • @himycatsdead I think I probably can

  • @himycatsdead ....On the ball there!!......Class!.....Pure class!!

  • @himycatsdead That's true, even Rhiana cannot perform this way because all that Rhiana does is strip for the camera to sell junk. Rhiana needs to learn more from these distinguished lades on this video or else get out of the music business.

  • This is unbelieveable. It doesn't get much better than this folks. Two amazing voices and talents, the likes of which we'll never see again...at least performances like this survive.

  • Superb!

  • Oh, how I love Ella!

  • What is the name of this song?

  • They are singing a medley of many songs tied together as one.

  • Pretty damn perfect

  • Ella, Ella, Ella....

    Jorge-Argentine

  • really you sound like a loser

  • It's interesting to hear Dinah sing that well. She always came across as a personality but here she sings!

  • She was a very accomplished singer during the war years through the early 60's. You might be confusing her later career when she was primarily a TV talk show host. Her vocal skills were diminished in those later years partly due to the fact that she no longer sang professionally and regularly.

  • That's a good point about her talk show years. One of the musicians from the talk show days, I forget his name, but not John Rodby, who was her musical director, said she was often at a disadvantage because she'd always sing new material but didn't have enough rehearsal. Why she did this, I can't say. She certainly had the clout to demand more rehearsald. Maybe she felt she didn't need it or didn't want to spend anymore time on it.

  • In the '80s, after the talk show days, she toured quite a bit and her singing became stronger.

  • Dinah's TV program was live. Done every week. Not like today's TV.

I was a kid when her program ran. Television was never better. The Dinah Shore Show was the one night every week when I could see fabulous acts like this.

As far as I'm concerned Dinah Shore is a national treasure.

  • She was a wonderful singer!

  • She was a tremendous talent and world known for her singing. Sit back and learn grasshopper.

  • Incredible!!! Iconic Lady performers! Name 2 singers today who are this great!

  • 2 singers of today as great as Dinah Shore and Ella Fitzgerald, Amy Winehouse and Lada Gaga (kidding). However, there are some excellent singers around today. Dinah and Sarah Vaughan were two of my favorites. In my opinion, Judith Durham and Linda Rondstadt are as good. They are both very versatile and sing like angels.

  • LOL ! its too much talent ...a great great moment

  • I'm so glad I was born to have lived during this era! I feel sorry for those born in the 80's and beyond! Must have pissed God off in another life.

  • You sound like my grandmother!

  • Ella's voice really is amazing

    .x.X.x.

  • This is talent baby!!!

  • EXTRAORDINARY ! it looks at times as if Dinah will burst with joy ! just beautiful ! !

  • both ladies GREAT!!!!!!

  • It's great these shows were preserved in compatible color, when so many were erased on videotape...

  • ella was teaching dinah to sing here :) well, dinah is awesome too, but ella is magic, there is no one like her!

  • Stop the trash talking! Dinah was a huge singing star and talent all the way back before the war years. Two class acts performing here!

  • I can't get over how well their voices blend. it isn't often two powerhouse voices blend with one not overpowering the other. one of the best duets i've heard in a while. legendary

  • Ella was always great-but Dinah shouldn't be dismissed as merely a talk show host-when she was young she was foxy....

  • It's clear these two wonderful ladies clearly enjoyed each other, and they sound fantastic together. It just doesn't get much better than this.

  • Two Icons!!

  • esuberanti con grande classe, stupende!

  • Both Dinah and Ella have that angelic voice that you just can't find anymore. These ladies and many more artists made jazz have that special zest.

  • Get it! Best duet I've ever heard. period.

  • Awesome!

  • Singularly gorgeous...especially the harmonic convergence of 'blues' at the end!! These two ladies knew how to do it!!

  • 4:16 Dinah starts feel'n it.

  • ranhill, I knew Dinah could sing, but never thought the girl could keep up. Oh how I was wrong. And Ella, well, that's Ella!!

  • maybe somebody knows all the songs they put into this medley?

  • Some of them:

    Memphis Blues

    St. Louis Blues

    Blues in the Night

    Ella & Dinah... it's jazz greatness :D

  • It will be removed.....and I understand why, just let me know were we can purchase it.

  • I would love to hear from Dinah's Daughter!!!

    Please talk to me!

  • I was in a hotel room on my way to Disneyland when I heard Dinah passed, So I will never forget her.

  • YES! I hope this video doesn't get removed from YouTube again. I watched this clip posted by another viewer almost daily, I loved it so much. Still remember all the lyrics! Anyone know if this clip and others from the Dinah Shore show can be found on DVD?

  • They aren't available on DVD, but there is a VHS tape available called "MWAH! The Best of The Dinah Shore Show" which is usually available on eBay. It was broadcast by PBS in 2003. I'm the one who posted them originally. They closed my account and my 150 Dinah clips!

  • 2 years on YouTube and this is my FAVORITE!!!!!

    Miss you Dinah and Ella!

  • felicidades tambien es mi favorito!

  • Thank you for bringing it back!

  • Wow.. just absolutely spine chillingly great. Two masters at their art.

  • Chills. Absolute chills. Go ladies, GO!!!!

  • My good fortune to grow up watching the Dinah Shore Show.

Always a class act. RIP Dinah.

  • elle s'applaudit a la fin, elle a kiffé

  • OMG!!! ELLA PURE!!!! DAMN!!! YES!

  • Beautiful!!

    Thanks so much for this.
