This might sound odd, but Desdemona in this video looks a lot like Namine from Kingdom Hearts, which is kind of a contemporary tragedy story inside a video game -- especially Birth By Sleep.
Anyway, this video is amazing. I love Shakespeare's works so much, and Othello is among my favorites; all his tragedies are great.
The red strawberries on the handkerchief represent Desdemona's virginity. Back in the day, the father of the bride was given the blood stained sheets of his daughter's first night with her husband as proof of her purity for safe keeping, to prevent the husband from denying it in the future. The red strawberries on the white handkerchief are a representation of that. That she can't provide him with that proof when he asks for it, in his mind, proves that she has not been faithful.
Actually, Desdemona never really gave away Othello's hankerchief. She simply dropped it and it ended up in Iago's hands. Othello, however, has a fixation problem on this thing, and feels she did give it away and cheated on him.
umm actually Emilia picked it up ang Iago asked for it for evil purposes...and othello didn't have a fixation problem and felt she gave it away...Iago played with his mind, and left the handkerchief in Cassio's room and yeah; downhill from there
Love is equated to the color red. Strawberries are red. Red and white together have great significance here. Both colors are depicted with strawberries on Othello's hankerchief, and strawberries on the marriage sheets. Othello holds these "red and white" colors in high reagard, and expects his wife to also. Bottom Line: She gives away his hankerchief. He feels compelled to kill her.
The strawberry connection has to do with the strawberry hankerchief that is a gift from Othello to Desdemona. It's later used by Iago as a tool of deception and the demise of Desdemona.
@bhilldesign Can you help me? My mom wants to know the name of the music that it's playing on the video... She is going to make a play with her students and she wants to know the words of the song so that they could sing. Thanks!
