You miss one very important point.

Why don't people stop starvation and wars? because those people (the ones starving and dying) speak a different language, they don't share our values, they are aliens to us.

Showing the mundane similarities we all share will make us a global community where we're all neighbors and all life is precious. Only then will people care.
