Hmm, why is this person seeking to undermine the message of this exhibit, does he not want the human rights abuses of psychiatry exposed? I note his name is "Doctor" ow, perhaps he comes from a line of doctors, and profits personally from the shame and human rights abuse of Psychiatry?? I think Scientology followers are more dumb then a sack of hammers, I am from Hollywood and know them as a cult first hand. But oddly enough in this particular situation, they are right. These places DO exist, and these things DO happen and very few people know about them. I myself was sent to three of them and lost 5 years of my life starting from the age of 12 to 17. This shit is real and the treatments and medications are real too.

Why does scientology dislike psychiatrists? I've never really understood it. It seems so arbitrary. Why not hate physicians or plumbers? Or, hell, telemarketing company executives. That's a prejudice I can get behind!

The short answer is: Psychology isn't even trying to help mankind, and they work to block real help as well. And, yes, I am a Scientologist. Mankind DOES need some help, and Scientologists (who offer real help) get annoyed with those who offer betrayal instead. So, go to CCHR.org, read up, & you might even figure out what Tom Cruise was talking about. Don't trust the hype - think for yourself. Have an honest look.

No, it is true. Much of scientology's criticism of psychiatry is based on arguments from the 1960s and even earlier. There was a point in history when anti-psychiatry was a very liberal, progressive movement that included such supporters such as Timothy Leary. Nowadays, anti-psychiatry has become more of a consumerist issue. You are very accurate in saying that this exhibit is fighting a boogeyman from the past.

No, I have not been through the museum thoroughly, but I've been by it and been inside. I'm very knowledgeable of what scientology has to say about psychiatry. I've studied neurology, and I've studied psychiatric criticisms (which were made popular in the 1960s). I can, without a doubt, say that scientology's criticisms of psychiatry do more damage than good for the anti-psychiatry movement (there is a legitimate one).
