@LyndaHudson Thats mean, I know Denethor was mean in the film, but in the book he's much nicer. Anyway the guy was in so much pain after his wife and son died and 2nd son reminded him of his wife. Thats why he is so sad when he looks at Faramir. Anyway Denethor didn't deserve to die, he just needed time to heal his mind after all the depressed thoughts and the stress of defending his nearly doomed kingdom. He lost his hope and thats sad.

In the book you feel pity for Denethor, it´s sad.
The movie changed him too much.
The books is definitely better.
