I almost agree, but "nigger" holds a much worse connotation than "homo". Also, "homo" really is just short for homosexual. "Nigger" on other hand is a derogatory comment created to be a derogatory comment. It's not short for anything, it's just hateful. I hear gays say "hetero" all the time. I don't get offended, it's short for what I am, a heterosexual.
We know Pat is not in favor of homosexuals, but that doesn't change the fact that the term "homo" by itself is not derogatory.
