  • Superb race cars, good to see them still being exercised in public view as they were intended, 'specially the lime AAR 'cuda and Penskie AMC out front. Shame about the shunt, no prizes for guessing where the oil came from. Great images quality, thanks for posting.

  • I was there and watched it happen from right about this same place. The 48 AAR Cuda was smoking on warm-up lap as well. Someone from HMSA should have pulled that car off due to it laying down oil. Right after the session they had the oil pan off the motor putting a new gasket on becasue it had leaked so bad. Seems like common sense enough. This is still just as sickening to watch on video as it was to watch in person.

  • anyone got a vid of that crash that happend on saturday with the open top car at the end of the straight, guy had to be taken to hospital and they said the owner of the car mentioned it was due a refurb anyway.....crumbs!

  • Thank you very much for posting this.

I think it is important for enthusiasts to see how crashes happen so we can learn and avoid them in our own lives.

  • This has nothing to do with SCRAMP You can clearly see car 48 oil the track in front of car 42. Having worked corners and raced for many years .I have worked many times at turn 9, what I see here is a racing incident. The only small amount of blame could be placed onto car 11. From this angle it is hard to see if he had enough time to see the waving yellow at the flag stand before he turned in to the corner. He seems to be concentrating on passing car 71 as he comes away from the apex. Bummer.

  • @rabidseventythree -- I understand what you are saying, but doesn't racing include looking at what is ahead of you? #11 probably was focused on 71, but it looks to me like he made no attempt whatsoever to avoid that collision. I can understand why he might not have had enough grip to turn left, inside 42, but had he steered right he might have pushed 71 into the gravel but he would have avoided the collision.

  • SCRAMP takes care of the track, things like maintenence, and event, promotion. On race day, the Historic Motor Sports Assn "HMSA" sanctions and runs the on-track part of the event. Turn 9 can be tough, especially on cold tires and entering it from the left side of the track, -probably due to first lap traffic. Sad to see this happen, a similar thing happened in the corkscrew to the Can-Am group in 2008.

  • On Saturday after this crash and in light ofSterling Moss's latest crash on Thursday and several other incidents, I happened upon a drivers meeting in the paddock and the gentleman leading the discussion suggested they suspend their qual/race for later that day and go home and think about what they are there for. He said he had been attending this event for many years and he couldn't understand what has happened this year. From the 1st Historic to this 1 I have never seen anything like it!

  • what an idiotic comment ! SCRAMP had nothing to do with the accident. There are always a few collisions at races of this stature. Hell, Sterling Moss was banned from this event, for a time, because of contact with another car some years ago.

  • Geez, between this one and the Scarab/Lister crash, Scramp don't seem to be getting off to a great safety record with running the historics. Too bad.
