Hey I can speak Japanese because that was really easy to understa-oh wait it's English. You'd think the theme tune would be in German... or whatever language the other side speaks (or maybe that is English)
@Christianitylol: I don't think there's any popular demand. At least, I don't notice it anywhere. All I can see is TV producers promoting some shit as an answer to the practically invisible so-called "popular demand". They produce shows, which seem to be directed at dumbing down the common people and I don't think there has ever been a referendum on whether we want the youth population to grow up watching things like Spongebob, instead of decent cartoons and anime shows...
@asmodeus585 I don't know, the majority of anime watchers I know prefer garbage. Even the pseudo-intellectual Code Geass did not appear to garner as much viewer support as Sailor Moon or some other mindless crap.
If I could choose I would prefer to live in Neue Reich than in Free Alliance. People in the Empire have enough liberty to do most things they want, the only difference from our democracy is that politicians are less corrupted and citizens don't have to play in silly. elections. Democracy is just a name, because common people never possess real power (why should they anyway?). What matters it the actual quality of our lives, not the name of a political system.
However, the Empire's economy invariably means you'll most likely live your life as a humble farmer, which isn't bad in of itself. It's certainly a wholesome existence for sure, but you won't have the consumer luxuries you'd have in the FPA/Neueland/Republic of Barlat.
You can be as well as soldier, a scholar, a clerk, a salesman, a priest in some cult, etc.
Besides, when I saw Phezzan becoming a new capital of the Empire, I didn't notice many farmers living there. ;)
Anyway, what would you choose - living as a happy and healthy life as an honest farmer who has a big and strong family or a tricky politician earning a lot of cash, who lives alone in his apartement with the most expensive luxuries there are?
Well, if they were to make a LoGH Elder Scrolls-style RPG where you had a choice in your career, you'd have a point. But I'm looking at the matter in terms of averages and the fact of the matter is that the vast majority of the Empire's five billion citizens are people who work and live off of the land. As for being a soldier, it's safe to assume after the end of the centuries-old war, the Reichsflotte will undergo a huge downsize, or at least won't draft nearly as many people.
However, don't take this to mean I think that working on a farm is necessarily bad. I agree that it is a very wholesome life-style that many people could be quite happy with, and as someone who feels some sentimental attachment to my own German heritage, I am not entirely hostile to living in a "traditional" German-style society just because I might not have vidya games and so on.
Besides, we don't know what further changes would Reinhard provide if he had a chance to live longer.
I prefer order to chaos, that's why I would choose to live in the Empire, rather than in hostile society of FPA, where people who deserve most don't get much (like Yang Wenli), because corrupted mediocre idiots still everything for themselves (like Job Trünicht). But I can understand why you'd prefer to be a citizen of FPA.
I assumed your question was rhetorical, but if you insist on an answer you might be disappointed. As someone who was bred in a society very similar to the FPA's, I can't say how well I could adapt to life as a farmhand in the Empire. -IF- I was free to choose, a career aboard an Imperial starship would be ideal, or maybe a historian or curator at the Neue Sanssouci museum or something of that nature. But in the end, there are advantages and disadvantages either way so it's a tough call.
"But in the end, there are advantages and disadvantages either way so it's a tough call." -It's nice that you've finally stated this. So far, you've sounded more as if you were definitely against the Neue Reich. :)
And please, forgive me my English, I'm not a native speaker and I have mispelled "steal" as "still" in my last comment. Shame on me! ;)
Well, if you can forgive me five billion/twentyfive billion mix-up... xD
Besides, I wouldn't worry too much about your English. From what little I have seen, it's far better than the English of most native English-speakers. That being said, my German is extremely limited and generally awful.
@asmodeus585 despite your non-native status, your grammar and spelling place you somewhere in the 95th percentile of all american citizens. You'd be surprised at how terrible the education system is over here.
This is just one of those openings that are just unforgettable. Truly a masterpiece, my most favourite LoGH opening so far.

The Empire speaks German and the Free Planets Alliance speaks English. But since it's a Japanese show, everybody speaks Japanese.
