Why didn't he will the tape to a person who would understand the significance of his action and release the tape? Maybe if he did do that his lawyer should sue on his estates behalf to fulfill his final wish. It really isn't up to his family unless he mistakenly left them the tape in his will.
Malachi is making a statement of selflessness. The war in Iraq is the opposite of that- greed, self-gain, oil, power, etc... Malachi is saying that there is something much greater than himself. He also knows that extreme action must be taken - that people will only turn there heads if they see something really shocking. I'm sure he realized that his protest signs weren't doing enough- just getting himself beat up by the cops.
Excellent work. I heard about Malachi's protest about a year ago and was shocked I hadn't heard about it earlier. It seemed to be completely ignored by the press. I am glad to see that some people and AlJazeera have the courage to make his action more widely known. Whether you agree with his action or not, it seems there is a duty for the news media to make such a statement of protest known to the public.
What a waste. I'm sorry, with no disrespect intended to his family, I can't agree with the people who admire and respect this man's action. It's just so senseless. Western folks seem to have an addiction to existential panic, creating drama in their lives where there isn't any real drama. People around the world are starving and living in war zones, but they keep going on. Meanwhile people here like this are going to lose all hope and will to live--- because of their concern for others???
I know that his death has hurt his family. I am very sorry for you. Please release the tape...he filmed it, not to hurt you, but to protest the war. I wish he hadn't, but he did.
Though most people will not watch it...the fact that it is out will begin the long march back home.
Too many people have been hurt, both emotionally and physically by all this senseless bloodshed.
The video proves it.
He is not the only one who has had these thoughts. He just reached his limit at that moment. PEACE
The greater metropolitan area of Chicago consists of over 9,700,000 people and only 10,000 people showed up to express their opinion about the war? Wow, sounds like a massive movement to me....LOL
I'm so glad this documentary exists. Malachi's story is so heartbreaking yet so invigorating -- apparently this is too much emotion for the mainstream media to cover with anything more than a passing mention.
Without the video tape Ritscher's protest is left as merely a sad footnote and not the spark of outrage it was intended to be. This is about the continuing deaths of thousands, not just one. It's a shame.
Why won't his family release the video??! that's really making my brain hurt!! not that I wanna see the video or anything BUT if he taped himself HE obviosly wanted his story to be told, the video to be watched. I understand this may be painful for his family BUT why not carry out his wishes and release the tape so his death is not in vain? why not release the tape to create an impact and make a point? that would help his cause to get the message across! end the war! stop the war!
With all respect to the wishes of Malachi and his family -- doesn't the fact that he filmed it himself indicate his desire to have it documented and, therefore, seen by people?
no US media will go out on the line to report important issues in depth because if they stray from the celebrity/sports path of meaningless reporting that this elite media group has set as the norm with their information control, they will lose short-term profits from viewers. its is frighteningly effective as people believe that what they see on these biased media are the extent of the world.
"freedom of speech" are becoming empty words, twisted to accommodate totalitarian economic elites right to suppress what is widely seen as unacceptable reporting in their profit culture.

Read Operation NORTHWOODS in the Pentagon Papers at Wikipedia. Then read Operation GLADIO. Did Malichi know 9/11 was an inside job?

Wonderful report. As an American I'm just learning about Malachi, I can't help but feel the domestic media is suppressing the anti-war movement.

I am part of his family. I would never want that to be released. No wish to release the tape was ever mentioned in his will or in any of his notes.

time to release the tapes
I see the world
Feel the chill
Which way to go
Windowsill
I see the words
On a rocking horse of time
I see the birds in the rain

Who owns the USA mainstream media?
I never heard any of this news before!!
However I have personally seen, on countless occasions, for decades, the brutality of the Chicago PD
