It first, I would mistake it for a Zebra Butterfly; the pupae look very similar. I then recognize it as the postman when i see the oval-like shape of the wings, and the large red stripes.

It's not a cocoon, it's a chrysalid. Moths emerge from cocoons. It's okay, a lot of people get them mixed up ;)
