  • The best song in the world. the song you listen to every single day for five years and never gets old kinda song. Jarv!

  • Miss Heather Hayes. Realise my love..

  • It's a confused song, dunno whether to be happy or sad.

Oh when we wokkee up that morning we had noooo way of knowing, that in a matterrr of hours we'd change the wayyy we were going... where would I be now?, where would I be now if we'd never met.. i'd probably be singing this song to someone else instead.. I dont know the clock it just said. somethings Changed.

  • @DrParanoidAndroid i still have the tape and the cover with the lyrics..pretty sure he sang i don't know but like you just said....instead of the clock it just said....

  • 240p we meet again ):

  • Although I know this is a love song, I think the melody and tempo has all the feel of a sad break up song. Maybe its just the fact a girl once cited that something changed' after two years as a reason to breakup. Yeah, proabably that.....

  • oh my god !!!! i love them and most of all the members,i love my sweet jarvis!!!!guys we completely adore you, here, in Greece!kisses!!!!

  • aww this song is so sweet. everry time i hear it i think of my hubby <3 i'm just so thankful that we met :)

  • Stop asking questions that don't matter anyway, just give pulp a 'like' to celebrate this song today!

  • Sziget!

  • I love this... I love them.

  • I'd go gay for Jarvis Cocker,

  • THIS MAN IS THE LOVE OF MY FRIGGIN LIFE. THERE, SAID IT.

  • @danidoce OH MY GOD...I LOVE him x

  • @danidoce mine too and im a dude LOL

  • Hes so fucking cool

  • my personal fave from "different class"

  • you wish supersad

  • I was listening to this song at the Wireless concert last week ... And when I sang the lyrics "oh when we woke up that morning, we had no way of knowing that in a matter of hours we'll change the way we were going ... Where would I be now if we never met?" it was all about my fucking love for this band, the love I felt when I saw them again, carelessly playing this song, like they've never been gone, like they've always been there ... A very emotional moment. Welcome back!

  • This is my favorite love song. Fucking incredible. Love the lyrics and everything else about it.

  • When we woke up that morning we had no way of knowing,

that in a matter of hours we'd change the way we were going.

Where would I be now if we'd never met?

Would I be singing this song to someone else instead?

I dunno but like you said

    something changed.

  • Sucks this is 240p and is terrible quality..but now I've really gotten into Pulp, they are not just a stupid techno band from the 90's, they are really good songwriters..

  • BEST LYRICS EVER!!

this song mean a lot for me,

  • I don't know why I've been crying.. I guess something is changing inside me.. What a great song!

  • Friday night, alone, whiskey, this song. It is really weird, but I feel happiness. Sometimes it is good to enjoy the melancholy.

  • a masterpiece by Pulp!

  • what's that thing at the end?

  • The melody in this song is simply beautiful, the lyrics are incredible. Pulp at their very best.

  • a timeless song

  • Our wedding song. Sums it all up really. Still together 15 years later. :))

  • This to me is such a beautiful song I love it just so lovely and hopeful of the future makes me feel good every time I hear it! Jarvis really is a genius and deserves to be up there with the Lennon and McCartney's of the world!!

  • "But like you said something changed" ~~

  • Love pulp!

Should deffinatly check out Spiders - Ambitions of a Hucksters Daughter

  • pretty cool lyrics i reckon -..when you think about it -there are so many things that could of changed and you never would of met-just some tiny detail that you did a different way - and you'd be with someone else now or on your tod

  • Cliff, For you, Remember You was so pissed with Mark he stole youre PULP CD

  • Jarvis is a legend, this was the soundtrack to my youth, quality, do you remember the first time? i do.

  • Reminds me of Brett - total gorgeous <¨3

  • Jarvis is so beautiful <3

  • Where would I be now if we'd never met?

    someone can ask me that??????

  • :)

  • First time i have listened to this in 14 years. This my first girlfriends and my song and i had forgoten how much it meant to me- and i didnt get upset and i am 34 now- still miss her.

  • hell, im pretty sure jarvis was in his early thirties in this video.

    cant wait for the reunion..

  • I am feeling old....... only 34.........

  • What a great song fae the 90's.

  • Breathtakeingly beautiful.

  • who are those 32?

  • What a great song, I cant get over the mood the song creates, such fabulous lyrics.

  • i just love the lyrics

  • I can't believe the crap that some people post. Don't overanalyze the lyrics, it's just a good song, whenever he met that girl, it doesn't matter, get over it.

  • @dyar1978 who said it was a girl?

  • @otisore ok, well whatever or whoever J.C. is singing about. It's just a song and a good one at that so let's just leave it there.

  • @dyar1978 haha! i totally agree...i was just being a wise ass.

  • @otisore I mean, do you see the second comment above in the 'top comments' section? Is he/she taking the piss or is it some nerd that would rather analyse the lyrics and get all philosophical about them instead of just listening to the song and enjoy it for the nice lyrics and beautiful arrangement?

  • @dyar1978 yeah, it was after reading that absurdness that made me start reading the other comments for some entertainment value. it's been a dear, beautiful song to me since it came out and i've always loved the idea behind the lyrics, but truthfully, i don't care if it's a personal JC story or not.

  • @otisore good for you. it's good to have a song that reminds you of a happy time in your life (or whatever the feelings were at the time, i'm sure happiness was one) especially a song as good as this one. it's funny how a song can have that affect, every time i hear 'i'll be missing you' by puff daddy and faith evans i'm taken back to the summer of '97 when my wife and i were in the infancy of our relationship, a really happy time in my life and i don't even like that type of music.

  • class song.bring bak the 90 s

  • meant to be..

  • never lets us down well done for all your years of doing that x

  • You can if you use imagination. Legends

  • oh, Pulp...

  • great song ... PULP!

  • Ingenious nonsense: how can you write a song about someone before you meet them, then set the whole lyric in the past tense, acknowledging the impact they'e had on you?

  • @grobbledonk maybe that's the point - it's a song of hope - you could meet someone at any time in you're life and that meeting is governed mostly by chance

  • @kosmischesynth - Yes, a song of hope, but it's written with the life-altered consequence of hindsight. You can't write a song about someone "two hours before we met" when you're yet to lay your eyes on them. That's why it strikes my ear as an elaborate game, because it can't have been an oversight. It has its own charm anyhow

  • @grobbledonk I think you may be trying to read too much into the song to find a rational explanation. Simply appreciate the ability of language to say the absurd. It is absurd to write a song about something that has yet to happen — especially a song like this, which emphasizes the unpredictable nature of the yet-to-happen events. But despite the absurdity, language allows you to say it. And Jarvis is taking full advantage of that, without us needing to determine the 'reality' behind the lyrics.

  • @grobbledonk I'm sorry to say but you are missing the point. This is the most romantic song I know. It's all about why did it happen? Why am I this fortunate? Please read the lyrics. It's a thought we all think when we fall in love and I don't know if anyone has ever written a song about. Why? Lovely.

  • @menyc2

I'd say the Gang of Four wrote about that sort of thing a fair bit. From Leeds and no doubt Jarvis Cocker would be into them.

  • beautifull and romantic song

  • Jarvis fucking oozze's cool.

  • @Fishmonkey123

    Do you think? :o/

  • never knew their were vids for the pulp songs, fantastic song, so well written :)

  • brrrrilllllliannnnt

  • should be re-released - brilliant!

  • Type in "YouWinTube" on the URL and win at life!

  • Jarvis looks utterly beautiful in this vid.

  • Why is this is hardcore's chord sequence added on at the end. This vid was years before that was written.

  • @93cantthinkofaname

this video is taken out from their HITS DVD, so there is This is Hardcore's chod sequence.

  • nothing else like this...

  • This reminds me so much of the time that i met my boyfriend (now ex). A bloke from south London and another from Jordan. both a bit messed up by society but the day i met him, something changed. Omar dearest, cheers big ears. xx

  • YESTERDAY IS HERE!!!!!!

  • love it

  • SO BEAUTIFUULL......^_^

  • perfect pop song

  • 1996? Where did the time go!

  • I love this song so much!!! So deep & meaningful, rare for me to like a 90s song or even much about the 90s in general. This is one of my favourite songs of that decade (along with Back For Good by Take That). Surprising that it only got to number 10 on 6th-April-96, re-released on 8th-june-96 where it got to number 62 then again on 22nd-June-96 where it reached number 61. 7 top 20 U.K hits including 5 top 10s & 2 top 5s (Common People & Mis-Shapes, both getting to number 2)

  • thats such a lovely story! thanks for sharing that.

  • I JUST LOVE THIS TUNE. PULP WERE ALWAYS SHADOWED BY THE FUCKWITS THAT WERE OASIS AND THE PLEBS THAT WERE BLUR. BUT IN MY OPINION JARVIS COCKER WAS BY FAR THE BETTER SONGWRITER AND MUSIC MAN! UGLY BASTARD BUT COOL AS FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @SuperJaneybee ugly bastard? u have gotta be kidding me! I wanna have his babies

  • @staceyrowley336 ME TOOOOOO!

  • @staceyrowley336

You'll have to get behind me in the queue!! Who wouldn't want his babies? :)

  • @missdefinitelymaybe ha, ha, ha. Me! I don't want his babies. Just call me picky. What I want is just listening to him: Jarvis is so sexy with that voice of his ;D

  • @nuttyteacher

Lol. Yeah, even listening to that voice of his is sufficient enough for me!!

  • @missdefinitelymaybe I don't want his babies... just his body.

  • @staceyrowley336 i'd totally go gay for jarvis.

  • @staceyrowley336 So do I, and I'm a straight male!

  • @staceyrowley336 he went out with chloe sevigny the chick that did that blowjob in that film so hes a lucky ugly bastard haha

  • @dennynua ur the stubid ugly bitch he's both gorgeous lyricly and as a person get ur story straight !

  • @superfunksters fuck you you dont even have a picture up so fuck you ye ugly cunt and I can say whatever the fuck i want and what I feel

  • Comment removed

  • ur such a hateful person ...and based on the way you speak ur ugly inside and out am sure

  • @superfunksters look whos talking you started with the "ur the stubid ugly bitch" comment and the the comment i left about pulp was a joke he fucks hundreds of groupies and is a millionaire does he really give a fuck about comments on this so you get your story straight

  • AMAZING!! Pulp are soooo underrated....

  • Quite possibly the single greatest love song ever written. No cliches, limited emotion, but powerful in it's own way.

  • @Ross43217 Totally agree with you on this. This is the song that I'm going to dedicate to my wife.

  • @pistolpimp36 I'm in a Wedding band and we have just been Requested to Play this for someones First dance.

    so your not alone there.

  • sweet song ^0^

  • i love this songs

  • Such a great group. This song was certainly original for them too, and they did a great job of it.

  • Top band. no more to say realy..........

  • most beautiful song ever ever. ever.

  • Pure genius, had this played at our wedding... it pretty much sums up the way any two people meet no matter how it came about

Paulfc93 - there's plenty of good music about at the moment, sometimes you just have to look for it though...

  • Quien es la chica a la que enfocan al final?

  • this is so wonderful.

  • Why did you touch my hand and softly say......

  • who its the song 3:27?? =O

  • And by 'this garbage' i meant music of the 2000's.....not pulp

  • I think the 90's was the decade when good music died......i looked at the top 40 the other day and there was really NONTHING that i'd consider good music.....i just hope theres going to be some sort of a backlash of disillusioned youth in the near future....or else we'll have to suffer through this garbage for years to come

  • i love the guitar solo bit in this song. pulp, blur, oasis, supergrass and the libertines remind me of my youth. none of them bands are still going now :-(

  • Such a great song from such a great album and yeah the 90s had some of the best music ever made...

  • Such a grand song...gotta love fate :)

  • seriously an all tiem great.......i wish i could see them live knw,,,,,,,,life changing experiance....LUV THEM......

  • i always tell my boyfriend about this song it sums up everything in life you never know what life holds ove you,,,,,,,,i love this song/band it says everything......4 years later? get on board or move along????????

  • the 90s were was THE GREATEST musical decade since the 60s.

in fact in the UK the 90s were the 60s all over again!

  • Comment removed

  • absolute quality,takes me back........oh happy days!

  • love lyric ....

  • I really like the music at the end

  • perfection

  • Cat boys favourite!! cat boy is jarvis's biggest fan!

  • Tune-age thanks

  • I adore this song, I adore Pulp, I adore the time when Different Class was released.

  • this was written for me know. this song is the best I've heard at this time ..... all pass and pass, but if I had not met...........

  • takes me back, so much of this can be applied to my life and probably everyone elses, who says there no such thing as fate.

  • i love DIfferent Class

  • Different Class. superb

  • there is nothing like pulp "love it"

  • these guys have to get back together and make a stop in chicago

  • @ElGrandeOutrageous AGREED! I missed them first time around, but now Pulp is no more I think. Maybe Jarvis could come round on his own.

  • I allways remember my teens when I hear this song and going home on a Slacks bus in the rain with my gym kit in a plastic bag... lol aaahhh the nostalga of it all :)

  • 3 & 1/2 minutes of nostalgia, beautiful.

Great paradox of Jarvis writing about their relationship before they had even met. I guess that touches on the frustratingly difficult to disprove notion of fate.

  • i hate how it ends so abruptly...want to hear more!

  • Quality song, genius of the britpop movement!!

  • @Kallytom genius before britpop, they started in 1978

  • This will forever remind me of how my husband and I met. It was a whole bunch of fate that brought us together. A girl from Chicago and a boy from Battersea should have never met the way they did but we're married 10 years now. This song was out when we first met, and it makes me get teary.

  • ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • @deachick We all have certain songs that mean things to us, yours sounds like a great story - It's a great song to have a great memory

  • @deachick sweet ;-)

  • @deachick congratz you teary fool haha all the best england(liverpool)

  • weirdly...it also reminds me of when you and your husband met.

  • @gidstar LOL

  • @deachick Battersea in London?

  • @44caliber6232 Yep, Battersea London. Arding and Hobbs (now Debenhams), The Green Cafe, Good Morning Vietnam, and The Crown...lol

  • @deachick that's awesome, I'd like a story like that some day. I hope you're very happy together.

  • @deachick Dagenham!!! What a S8it hole. I live nearby in Romford!!!

  • @deachick AWww, you guys are soooooo lovely to me. Seriously, lovely. *sniff*

  • "whole bunch of fate" - such a great phrase. Hope you both are having a great time!

  • @deachick Music doing just what it's supposed to. Nice story.

  • @deachick I'm teary too. Bless.

  • @deachick you meet at the dogs home??

  • god i really love this song for some reason!

  • It's a b-side on the THIS IS HARDCORE SINGLE. Full title is THIS IS HARDCORE end of the line remix. History is being so kind to pulp. Different class album was aptly titled.

  • great track from the sheffield indie-pop masters.... but i'm curious to know what is the strings track that follows the end of the video. anyone familiar?

  • The strings sequence at the end is from the Hits DVD. There are various interludes used between the music videos. Not sure who orchestrated this. Does sound familiar (as if from a classical work) and yet may be the work of Pulp or DVD producers

  • aperrently russel senior didnt like this song much

  • yeah well, up his ass with broken glass this is perfection pulp style )))

  • so love Jarvis xx

  • best tune! and means so much! it really shows lyrical genius of jarvis! but people cant write tunes these days!

  • Jarvis forever

  • What a gorgeous song....i love Jarvis' dramatic singing...it's like i'm
