@valkour22 pretty sure you've never even played Warcraft before. Its not even close to the same thing as WoW. Its not and MMOG... Its not an RPG... and it has no relation to the mechanics of WoW. EQ and Ultima Online were the originals. And about the customer support. Thats funny cause i just asked for a GM in eq2 and got one right away, in WoW you have to send in a note and wait five days... Wow had flying mpunts years ago eq2 just got them and they look like crap. there is no way eq2 graphics beat Wow's now. i use to be like oo Wow is cartoonie, but since that update it makes eq2 look like vanilla. Eq2 came out with BG'S way after Wow and eq2's bg's suxx . Eq2 is such a joke especially when double xp is up lolol,they all run and pwerlvl a toon with max lvl an aa in a day and think they are good lolol. WOW'S graphics are way superior to EQ's now. im running a i7 2600k 16 gigs ram 2 gtx 570's and i can run eq2 with all the shaders and extreme grapics and get about 60-70 fps in cities over 100 outside of towns. Since they upgraded Wow with everything max i get around 45-60 fps. Wow is at least 3x better looking the water even moves now when u touch it. There is no comparison graphic wise. Then when u throw in features like flying mounts that eq2 is only getting and Wow has had for yrs.

@cortonbirds EQ2 Also has those features. Perhaps you didnt have Extreme Quality turned on, or you selected to hide certain atmospheric rendering, when you just in water it splashes, or when you swim you make ripples etc. I cant run the game on extreme myself, so I'm kinda jealous you're able to do that, the game is so damn beautiful when the graphics are maxxed out.

@valkour22 You might want to go to school about computer's there bud. The higher the FPS, the better = better optimized. EQ2 has amazing detail, with High-FPS rates due to optimization. Yet... World of Warcraft zones are filled with useless detail that no one care's about hence giving you a lower FPS. So tell me how those cartoon shit graphic's are better? Carton Laggy vs Realistic Performance. Everquest 2 hands down for me. Everquest 2 is for the people who arn't so lazy, tradeskill ;)

EQ2 is now re-designed for multi-core, shader 3.0, etc.
Both games were designed for 1 core to start with, WoW rushed their multi support out and it had major issues at first. Sony took their time releasing multi support, and while it had some issues as well, they were minor compared to WoW's
I play WoW along side EQ2 (so I can honestly make comparisons) and I can say that DX11 mode for WoW is still buggy. And you went to "scholl" for "pcomputer"? Must be a V-Tech school

Are you really going to compare WoW to EQ2, even with your "supposed" system? So you have a high end machine, that doesn't mean a thing. You can have the baddest machine out, play a game maxed and get low FPS; that doesn't always mean that game is better. Ever think of bad programming, network lag (yes that effects GFX), etc?

I love EQ2 more than WoW too... Much more. But I can't say it's unfair of Blizzard to win the war and players. Because they did lots of PR for the game, and Sony didn't market EQ2 much at all. No marketing in sweden, but WoW is on TV and magazines everywhere, all the time. Sony have a great game but a horrible PR department. Also WoWs engine is more GPU based while EQ2's is CPU based which causes framerate troubles. But I hear they will work on changing that, this year. It's a great game.

And no I haven't played EQ2 (nor EQ1) ever, but played WoW since european release. EQ2 looks very nice game tho, but I have played WoW too long to change anymore :p

Ah nice to see a real comparision of the games here. Lets see with the comparision we see EQ2 has more classe, races, and race customization options then WoW. Enough said. All you guys dwelling on the PVP parts are really distraction from the reason this video was made. Not to compare PVP, but character creation. Also here is a bonus for those of you. EQ2 offers ALL the classes right off the bat, Extended exluded. WoW does not. You decide.
EQ2 hands down on this comparison, imo. And yes...I have played both games for YEARS, both from release and simultaneously. I did take a break from EQ2 for a bit while I tried a couple of other games, but it was EQ2 I returned to and eventually left WoW altogether in Feb of this year, simply because once you have a bunch of 80s in WoW...there's just not enough to do end game besides raiding. I found a lot more to DO in EQ2. I don't hate WoW, but in most ways, I think EQ2 is a better game.

as far as EQ2 vs wow goes, one thing I will say is WoW definitely has a stronger story in it.. i play EQ2 and it doesnt even give you a clue who the main villain is, where as in WoW its clear who it is as you go expak to expak.
I know EQ2 has great character creation and a good selection of races, I could even live with it being a Raid progression game.. but no pvp is not going to happen.
Theres been pvp in EQ2 for years...In fact it was the best open world pvp available...i have near 50 thousand pvp kills myself...and now..as from next week..theres battlegrounds too...research is a wonderful thing...seriously tho thats the problem with EQ2 noone knows about it due to slack advertising.
TWO servers for pvp, with no PVP balance at all, hell at least WOW gives a damn about pvp. Not to mention your pvp servers are Wastelands. The PVP rules turn your pvp servers into little more than Dueling grounds. LOL they have Carebear rules to keep you from attacking low health players, healers lol, and just about any other kind of stupid shit you can think of, Not to mention the Vast amount of SAFE zones in the game.
Nagafen is probably the best server experience in any mmo. Classes are balanced they make fixes monthly to ensure that. They have brought in a few carebear rules lately eg no fameloss on death, but this has encouraged players as they dont evac etc. I said WAS and I maintain that EQ2 pvp Nagafen server 1-2 yrs ago was the most rewarding pvp experience in any game. A good EQ2 6 v 6 skilled grp fight is unbelievably good, wipes the floor with wow and war etc for mechanics.
@Faelsun EQ 2 pvp is better than wow. EQ 2 has more options, from 3 factions, to abandoning factions to switch over, to a faction that is against anyone. You can level lock to stay within a level and pvp at it, and each area has level restrictions, so you wont get ganked by a high level. Wow has better BGs, but their world pvp is stuck a few years back with NO options.
EQ pvp is terrible it has two major flaws that makes the other worse. One is shitty mobility and two is overpowered autotargeting. Most so called epic pvp battles in EQ have two groups of people facing each other within a few feet. They do this because one, the movement controls are shit, almost everything is a timed cast, and when you do move you have to restart your casting. Even if they did try to move out of the way Nukes in EQ are so powerful you can kill people through mountains. Its BS.

Uhmmm, that answered why, its common in gaming that you take something to give something, otherwise warlocks in wow would have dps fireballs that can outmatch a mage. Not all magic has timed bars, thats wrong. I have no problem with auto-targeting. I actually like the movements in eq2, i see no problems with it.
No its not, because no hard core pvp guild is going to waste their time PVPing on EQ, its not a matter of give and take, bottom line PVP on EQ is two groups of people in a Nuke wars standoff thats not tactical or challenging, its just a way for the raiders that occupy the game to pummel each other with over the top nuke blasts which you cant get away from because you have hardly any max distance cap and can target people through mountains. Your Battlegrounds suck because of this.
You see no problems with it because you probably cant handle a true pvp challenge, your a typical raider mentality who prefers to stand in one spot nuking targets,..... which is really all you do in EQ pvp.. stand in the same spot, Sorry but thats bullshit, there are asian Grinder clickers with more mobility.
I can also tell you play nothing But EQ since you apparently dont know the destructive power of a destro Warlock. WOW is at least mobile and tactical, and can make use of large pvp maps
@Faelsun A lot of Assumption. Can you make an arguement with any facts, or are you just using guesses? You need to get your facts straight, there is a large list of spells in wow that are disrupted when you move, thats why there is a casting time spells, and instant casts, just like eq 2. So your arguement makes no sense when it comes to mechanics. And world pvp in wow is dying, its all bg. I dont blame them, the bg is good, but open world pvp offers no incentives or options like eq 2 does.
A lot of FACT people left EQ in the first place because the PVP was dog shit. WOW has mobility, Even for a caster who has to be stationary half the time, I say half the time because even a Mage has instant cast spells. The autotargeting has bullshit minimum range so escape is impossible since you can just Tab the shit out of anything Anywhere and nuke blast them through a hill or mountain.
And because mobility is dog shit large BG boards are useless in EQ, your pvp is simply LACKING.
@Faelsun Your numbers are messed up. I have 80 lv mages and druids that dont have a large base of instant cast spells. So unless you are referring to some unknown wow, then you shouldnt make things up. Anything good in wow was taken from eq, eq started it all. Hence why eq has more options, because its evolving from its base core, something that wow completely stole. Just because a game is an easy hold your hand theme park game that attracts a bigger fan base doesnt make it better.
Depends on how you spec, someone like you who likes to not move will probably spec deep fire or deep ice and still never use it to full potential. Frost/ARcane or any ARcane combination will have a varied number of instant, short casting time and regular casting time spells.
As for evolving, who is borrowing from who here? Last time I checked WOW had BGs years before EQ got desperate enough to try them, not to mention pvp.
@Faelsun PVP? Pvp is old, wow didnt create that. Another wrong fact. And you can spam instant spells all you want, there is still a large list of casting time spells, heals, bolts, whatever. You can do the same thing and focus on instant spells in eq 2 all you want. And dont even try to talk about borrowing, wow ripped off eq hard. check your history, Wow is EQ with less options.
And if it were JUST my opinion EQ2 would have more than 200,000 subs.. actually thats a high estimate at this point. The game is mostly ran by a few powerful Raiding guilds who have a chokehold on the game. PVP is just an afterthought..... and done very poorly at that... WOW even if it were 20 years old would still be better than EQ2.
And if you have only ever played EQ2 you have had little viable experience in the PVP world. In effect your opinion doesn't matter.

And I can admit EQ raiding is better, lots of things are better, race selection, customization, raiding, housing, mounted combat. BUT EQ lacks PVP balance, gear balance, controls, blocky movement, Overpowered spell mechanics, basically they scale everything to raiding, with no regard for pvp, so you end up with a clunky non intuitive system that is based more on autotarget than reaction time. Basically its pvp for raidiers who cant turn.

One thing EQ never borrowed or used positive input for was PVP which is why it has always been bad. EQ is proof of the negative implications of making a raid only centric game, it means the pvp will be dog shit... which it is.

50K is no big deal on any PVP game with a decent population you can do that in a year or less... if your dedicated. But If you look at any pvp videos from the game no one really moves that much because EQ autotargeting is more OP than wows is, thats the truth. The movement is terrible. Anyone that has played Guild Wars.. a seriously bad ass pvp game will look at that and laugh their ass off, I mean it's basically pvp for raiders. Two people look at each other and nuke til the other guy dies lol.
I know that, but I have experimented with the pvp system out of curiosity. And from watching videos, I mean the spells are not bad. But the mechanics of how you fight in EQ@ make large battlegrounds well. Most of the EQ fights you see .. no one goes that far. Mobility is an issue in Everquest, If you guys have to do something like AV it will take FOREVER. Autotargeting is way overpowered, and mobility is extremely lacking.
The game is good but the mechanics for pvp need work. I rolled a frog.
@Faelsun Lets see, my guild and I been with WoW and EQ2, umm hands down EQ2 open world pvp. Tons of classes to mix it up, and its not hard to find a fight. Thats it, WoW is just easy mode.
I hate to tell you this but EQ pvp is shit, hell WOW pvp is shit.. its just slightly less shitty than EQ PVP, EQ has bad controls for pvp the mechanics are just bad, the battles end up being two groups of people in nuke till you drop face off no tactics what so ever. If you want to try some real Group pvp try Guild Wars, Fallen Earth, Darkfall, Asherons call or Lineage1 or 2.. EQ pvp sucks ass.
@Faelsun So why is it everytime I log in my berserker I seem to join a group and kick ass. Taunts work in pulling people off my healers, and my nukers. we hardly even use nukes because they drop so fast. And I we dont even need group, so many people solo pvp, almost all of them are rogue style classes but I am guessing you never pvped in EQ2. Or if you have, you got on when the server first opened then left. In the end the only thing that sucks is people running. That is it.
Not only is the pvp carebear and level locked which wouldnt be SOO bad if the mechanics were not crap. Guild Wars is a real PVP game and there are a few others, and for raiding EQ is one of the best, but for PVP its total shit, any accomplishments you made with your Berserker, you will get no Cred for it outside of EQ because the PVP playing world knows your game is a joke.
I know a lot of people who have played both EQ2 and WoW. Everyone I know who has given both of the games a fair try like EQ2 better. As far as graphics go WoW will not beat the graphics of EQ2, every video I have ever seen of EQ2 the graphics shown are on one of the lowest graphic setting, the game looks amazing in its top setting with all the particle effects. I have seen WoW on its highest setting and does not hold a candle. WoW has advertising going for it, which is why it is more popular

WoW is as big as it is because of advertising. There's no other reason. If EQ 2 had Ozzy say, "I play EQ 2!" We would have a lot more people playing EQ 2. Sony doesn't want people who rely on advertisement alone to play their MMO. That would ruin it. If they did, we would have Ozzy or any other famous person. Remember, this is SONY we're talking about. They can buy anyone they want.

WOW'S graphics are way superior to EQ's now. im running a i7 2600k 16 gigs ram 2 gtx 570's and i can run eq2 with all the shaders and extreme grapics and get about 60-70 fps in cities over 100 outside of towns. Since they upgraded Wow with everything max i get around 45-60 fps. Wow is at least 3x better looking the water even moves now when u touch it. There is no comparison graphic wise. Then when u throw in features like flying mounts that eq2 is only getting and Wow has had for yrs.

Perhaps you didnt have Extreme Quality turned on, or you selected to hide certain atmospheric rendering, when you just in water it splashes, or when you swim you make ripples etc. I cant run the game on extreme myself, so I'm kinda jealous you're able to do that, the game is so damn beautiful when the graphics are maxxed out.

World of Warcraft zones are filled with useless detail that no one care's about hence giving you a lower FPS. So tell me how those cartoon shit graphic's are better? EQ2 is now re-designed for multi-core, shader 3.0, etc.
Both games were designed for 1 core to start with, WoW rushed their multi support out and it had major issues at first. Sony took their time releasing multi support, and while it had some issues as well, they were minor compared to WoW's

I love EQ2 more than WoW too... Much more. But I can't say it's unfair of Blizzard to win the war and players. Because they did lots of PR for the game, and Sony didn't market EQ2 much at all. No marketing in sweden, but WoW is on TV and magazines everywhere, all the time. Sony have a great game but a horrible PR department. Also WoWs engine is more GPU based while EQ2's is CPU based which causes framerate troubles. But I hear they will work on changing that, this year. It's a great game.

EQ2 hands down on this comparison, imo. And yes...I have played both games for YEARS, both from release and simultaneously. I did take a break from EQ2 for a bit while I tried a couple of other games, but it was EQ2 I returned to and eventually left WoW altogether in Feb of this year, simply because once you have a bunch of 80s in WoW...there's just not enough to do end game besides raiding. I found a lot more to DO in EQ2. I don't hate WoW, but in most ways, I think EQ2 is a better game.

as far as EQ2 vs wow goes, one thing I will say is WoW definitely has a stronger story in it.. i play EQ2 and it doesnt even give you a clue who the main villain is, where as in WoW its clear who it is as you go expak to expak.

Theres been pvp in EQ2 for years...In fact it was the best open world pvp available...i have near 50 thousand pvp kills myself...and now..as from next week..theres battlegrounds too...research is a wonderful thing...seriously tho thats the problem with EQ2 noone knows about it due to slack advertising.

TWO servers for pvp, with no PVP balance at all, hell at least WOW gives a damn about pvp. Not to mention your pvp servers are Wastelands. The PVP rules turn your pvp servers into little more than Dueling grounds. LOL they have Carebear rules to keep you from attacking low health players, healers lol, and just about any other kind of stupid shit you can think of, Not to mention the Vast amount of SAFE zones in the game.

Nagafen is probably the best server experience in any mmo. Classes are balanced they make fixes monthly to ensure that. They have brought in a few carebear rules lately eg no fameloss on death, but this has encouraged players as they dont evac etc. I said WAS and I maintain that EQ2 pvp Nagafen server 1-2 yrs ago was the most rewarding pvp experience in any game. A good EQ2 6 v 6 skilled grp fight is unbelievably good, wipes the floor with wow and war etc for mechanics.

@Faelsun EQ 2 pvp is better than wow. EQ 2 has more options, from 3 factions, to abandoning factions to switch over, to a faction that is against anyone. You can level lock to stay within a level and pvp at it, and each area has level restrictions, so you wont get ganked by a high level. Wow has better BGs, but their world pvp is stuck a few years back with NO options.

EQ pvp is terrible it has two major flaws that makes the other worse. One is shitty mobility and two is overpowered autotargeting. Most so called epic pvp battles in EQ have two groups of people facing each other within a few feet. They do this because one, the movement controls are shit, almost everything is a timed cast, and when you do move you have to restart your casting. Even if they did try to move out of the way Nukes in EQ are so powerful you can kill people through mountains. Its BS.

@Faelsun Uhmmm, thats based on your opinion. You just contradicted your claim. You are complaining about magic bars stopping with movement, yet the magic is so powerful it can kill you. Uhmmm, that answered why, its common in gaming that you take something to give something, otherwise warlocks in wow would have dps fireballs that can outmatch a mage. Not all magic has timed bars, thats wrong. I have no problem with auto-targeting. I actually like the movements in eq2, i see no problems with it.

No its not, because no hard core pvp guild is going to waste their time PVPing on EQ, its not a matter of give and take, bottom line PVP on EQ is two groups of people in a Nuke wars standoff thats not tactical or challenging, its just a way for the raiders that occupy the game to pummel each other with over the top nuke blasts which you cant get away from because you have hardly any max distance cap and can target people through mountains. Your Battlegrounds suck because of this.

You see no problems with it because you probably cant handle a true pvp challenge, your a typical raider mentality who prefers to stand in one spot nuking targets,..... which is really all you do in EQ pvp.. stand in the same spot, Sorry but thats bullshit, there are asian Grinder clickers with more mobility.
I can also tell you play nothing But EQ since you apparently dont know the destructive power of a destro Warlock. WOW is at least mobile and tactical, and can make use of large pvp maps

@Faelsun A lot of Assumption. Can you make an arguement with any facts, or are you just using guesses? You need to get your facts straight, there is a large list of spells in wow that are disrupted when you move, thats why there is a casting time spells, and instant casts, just like eq 2. So your arguement makes no sense when it comes to mechanics. And world pvp in wow is dying, its all bg. I dont blame them, the bg is good, but open world pvp offers no incentives or options like eq 2 does.

A lot of FACT people left EQ in the first place because the PVP was dog shit. WOW has mobility, Even for a caster who has to be stationary half the time, I say half the time because even a Mage has instant cast spells. The autotargeting has bullshit minimum range so escape is impossible since you can just Tab the shit out of anything Anywhere and nuke blast them through a hill or mountain.
And because mobility is dog shit large BG boards are useless in EQ, your pvp is simply LACKING.

@Faelsun Your numbers are messed up. I have 80 lv mages and druids that dont have a large base of instant cast spells. So unless you are referring to some unknown wow, then you shouldnt make things up. Anything good in wow was taken from eq, eq started it all. Hence why eq has more options, because its evolving from its base core, something that wow completely stole. Just because a game is an easy hold your hand theme park game that attracts a bigger fan base doesnt make it better.

Depends on how you spec, someone like you who likes to not move will probably spec deep fire or deep ice and still never use it to full potential. Frost/ARcane or any ARcane combination will have a varied number of instant, short casting time and regular casting time spells.
As for evolving, who is borrowing from who here? Last time I checked WOW had BGs years before EQ got desperate enough to try them, not to mention pvp.

You can do the same thing and focus on instant spells in eq 2 all you want. And dont even try to talk about borrowing, wow ripped off eq hard. check your history, Wow is EQ with less options.

And if it were JUST my opinion EQ2 would have more than 200,000 subs.. actually thats a high estimate at this point. The game is mostly ran by a few powerful Raiding guilds who have a chokehold on the game. PVP is just an afterthought..... and done very poorly at that... WOW even if it were 20 years old would still be better than EQ2.
And if you have only ever played EQ2 you have had little viable experience in the PVP world. In effect your opinion doesn't matter.

You haven't proven dick, sure some things in wow are dissapointing and I quit the game because I just dont like the Themepark shit, I did play since BC though.
But Everquest is also a theme park so you really cant say anything. And sure I admit in wow I got tired of the little kids playing elves named Logolosis and other lame shit, but on the other hand EQ had very little population except for anal retentive raid only guilds that ruin the game for everybody.

No shithead I played SINCE BC I didn't stop until 3.2 right before 3.3. So oooooh at your 80s, I have/had an 80 on multiple servers..... don't act like thats a feat of strength. Show me some 1800+ PVP gear and a decent raid set then you will be worth a damn.
I also cannot argue that BGs and easy gear cluster fucked world pvp, Im not saying WOW PVP is perfect I AM saying EQ pvp is still inferior to WOW PVP and that is a low bar.

Bottom line you take your average so called cough EQ2 PVPer and put him in WOW Arena or a BG he will most likely be your average Keyboard turner. Because honesty in EQ you simply dont react fast enough in that system to be Viable on WOW PVP.
Everquest never has and never will have respectable PVP, no hard core PVP guild gives a Piss about EQ they knew it sucked a long time ago.

And I can admit EQ raiding is better, lots of things are better, race selection, customization, raiding, housing, mounted combat. BUT EQ lacks PVP balance, gear balance, controls, blocky movement, Overpowered spell mechanics, basically they scale everything to raiding, with no regard for pvp, so you end up with a clunky non intuitive system that is based more on autotarget than reaction time. Basically its pvp for raidiers who cant turn.

One thing EQ never borrowed or used positive input for was PVP which is why it has always been bad. EQ is proof of the negative implications of making a raid only centric game, it means the pvp will be dog shit... which it is.

@moonrox8080 - Hahaha, WoW got its' story, characters, and lore from the Warcraft series, the first of which was released in 1994, and Everquest was releast in 1999. Sure, WoW itself was released in 2004, the lore goes back to 94.
However, they were probably inspired by Lord of the Rings, just like Everquest, and every other fantasy story in the last 50 years.

50K is no big deal on any PVP game with a decent population you can do that in a year or less... if your dedicated. But If you look at any pvp videos from the game no one really moves that much because EQ autotargeting is more OP than wows is, thats the truth. The movement is terrible. Anyone that has played Guild Wars.. a seriously bad ass pvp game will look at that and laugh their ass off, I mean it's basically pvp for raiders. Two people look at each other and nuke til the other guy dies lol.

I know that, but I have experimented with the pvp system out of curiosity. And from watching videos, I mean the spells are not bad. But the mechanics of how you fight in EQ@ make large battlegrounds well. Most of the EQ fights you see .. no one goes that far. Mobility is an issue in Everquest, If you guys have to do something like AV it will take FOREVER. Autotargeting is way overpowered, and mobility is extremely lacking.
The game is good but the mechanics for pvp need work. I rolled a frog.

I hate to tell you this but EQ pvp is shit, hell WOW pvp is shit.. its just slightly less shitty than EQ PVP, EQ has bad controls for pvp the mechanics are just bad, the battles end up being two groups of people in nuke till you drop face off no tactics what so ever. If you want to try some real Group pvp try Guild Wars, Fallen Earth, Darkfall, Asherons call or Lineage1 or 2.. EQ pvp sucks ass.

@Faelsun So why is it everytime I log in my berserker I seem to join a group and kick ass. Taunts work in pulling people off my healers, and my nukers. we hardly even use nukes because they drop so fast. And I we dont even need group, so many people solo pvp, almost all of them are rogue style classes but I am guessing you never pvped in EQ2. Or if you have, you got on when the server first opened then left. In the end the only thing that sucks is people running. That is it.

Not only is the pvp carebear and level locked which wouldnt be SOO bad if the mechanics were not crap. Guild Wars is a real PVP game and there are a few others, and for raiding EQ is one of the best, but for PVP its total shit, any accomplishments you made with your Berserker, you will get no Cred for it outside of EQ because the PVP playing world knows your game is a joke.
Play a real pvp game and get back to me.

I know a lot of people who have played both EQ2 and WoW. Everyone I know who has given both of the games a fair try like EQ2 better. As far as graphics go WoW will not beat the graphics of EQ2, every video I have ever seen of EQ2 the graphics shown are on one of the lowest graphic setting, the game looks amazing in its top setting with all the particle effects. I have seen WoW on its highest setting and does not hold a candle. WoW has advertising going for it, which is why it is more popular

WoW is as big as it is because of advertising. There's no other reason. If EQ 2 had Ozzy say, "I play EQ 2!" We would have a lot more people playing EQ 2. Sony doesn't want people who rely on advertisement alone to play their MMO. That would ruin it. If they did, we would have Ozzy or any other famous person. Remember, this is SONY we're talking about. They can buy anyone they want.
