  • Nice video man! Very original!

  • Thanks for the vid. I wish you had a tutorial on how to take pictures like yours.

  • Tbh in this camera, Canon have seemed to over prioritise on the video on this camera, the only reason most people buy this camera is for video not for stills.

  • Comment removed

  • Who buys a thousand dollar camera and decides it's not fit for them .__.

  • @kittzykk Probably people who are crazy rich xD

  • @kittzykk lol, hahaha

  • Are 550d and 60d _basically_ the same? Like, you can get the same image quality, but the 60d just has these extra features and is more solid? Is the video quality the same on both cameras? Sorry for these dumb questions, but I'm just starting out.. :P

  • @TonyTonyChopper93 They use the same sensor. The 7D does as well. It's the "extras" you get with each model as you go up (excluding sensor) that count. I have the 60d as I wanted something that could shoot more quickly and have better focusing than the rebel series. It all comes down to lenses really. If you are serious you will end up spending way more on lenses that will then be used on your next camera.

  • Ohhhh

  • What are you talking about? This thing is almost BUILT for video! Anyways great photos.

  • @Akeuw

What are you talking about? For being "almost built for video" it is rather inconvenient to only be able to capture 12 continuous min of HD video and less than an hour of continuous standard video filming. Blunty did say that "The 60D has some of the best video functions that Canon has on any DSLRs today" but with that being said if your needs are that of a videographer than you should invest in a device designed for video not a still picture camera with "video options bolted on"

  • @Wuchagot 12 minutes, that is why you press the record button again, or get a bigger memory card with fast reading. Depending what type of film maker you are, this one may be good, especially beauty shots with the bokuh. I am not getting into a DSLR vs whatever argument though.

  • Your photos are just stunning! Every gear head out there who claims that you MUST buy a 5D and whole range of expensive L-lenses to get great quality photos should be forced to sit down and take a look at the results you have achieved with the 60D and its cheap kit lens! A real eye opener!

  • @larspallesen no, they must be forced to sit in a chair, chained down, have they eyes pried open, hydrated by someone, and have their mind broken like Alex from A Clock Work Orange.

reason: Even if they saw excellent pictures such as these taken with such mid-range equipment they'd simply brush it's quality aside, as their ignorance wouldn't let them change their retarded opinions.

  • Why don't you recommend it for Video priority? The video looks great! And your Photos are just Awesome... :-)

  • I thought the video looked really good. Wish you would have done more of that.

  • Great video, great photos, good stuff.

  • Ive had this camera for about two months so far and i cant put it down. I love it, im using it to film and it has been treating me great. And the flip out screen is so usefull for film, makes you wonder why dosnt every dslr have that feature. Great Camera.

  • Have you made a review of the temron lens? If not, could you. I just ordered it but thinking of cancelling it and save for at better one. Some people hate this, other like it -I don´t know what to think!

  • should i get the 60d or the 600d or even the 550d for best film quality?

  • @princemSALEM In my opinion the 600D is best for film quality and settings. 60D is just as good but obviously has a better photography all around than both 600D and 550D. I would recommend the 600D if you're just going to be using it to film or film most on there. 60D and 600D and pretty much top range even though the 550D is v.good, the 60 and 600D is just better built.

  • @6m8HAMERR i just hate the 600d..i'm narwoing it to 550 and 60..in my opinion the 550d give more film quality movie ..but then again ..the 60d is sharper and would give better quality in events and documentaries..plus it doesn't over heat..but i just love the 550d colors..i don't know

  • can i ask you some questions, i want to make youtube video's of drumming and playing piano is this a good camera to do that or do you have any other idea

sorry for my english i'm from the netherlands....

  • Good review. I prefer the "inane babblings" lol, of a user to the cut and dried review of a pro' site. Although DPpreview is excellent.

  • epiiiiiic :)

  • You Sir are a great photographer! So many of those shots are just amazing!

How you can achieve such stunning results with the cheap kit lens is beyond me!

It speaks to your skills as a photographer. Kudos!

  • you have some amazing photos. i am not a pro just a shutterbug in the learning mode and you have inspired me to get out and keep shooting. i love that last black and white photo of the tiger is there any way you could sell me that photo with an autograph i would love to hang that up in my room. thanks again your an inspiration to many of us.

  • bravo!!! finally !!! a no pretend no personality but just principle review of a camera!! thank you sir. thank you very much!! i understand it and love it.

  • Wow Blunty. I watched this video when you first posted it and was impressed, but I've grown to love photography a lot more since, and I now really appreciate and love your composition and editing. I particularly like the photo of the circular gate/window thing at 3:31.

  • I bought a 60d 2 months ago and took it to Asia for some snaps, video and pics are stunning to me and I have never own anything past a point and shoot. I am also learning to post edit with lightroom 3 and CS5.

  • Cool I have the same of the camera (Canon EOS 60D) and this is a good video

  • the 60d wasnt made for photography

  • @POWASLIDEPRODUCTIONS

    but for what?

  • @POWASLIDEPRODUCTIONS HA! then what was it made for? Serving soup?!

  • @U23Drocs no it was made for video ??

  • @POWASLIDEPRODUCTIONS then why does it have problems with the video mode like blunty pointed out? if it was made for video wouldn't it work flawlessly? and also wouldn't the body be in the shape of a video camera rather than a DSLR?

  • In this review you state that if you were just using it for video you would not recommended this camera. What camera would you recommended to shoot mainly video in the $800 range?

  • yeah cool review

  • @Blunty3000 third year doing photography in education, and i abit before, pretty creative working at the top of my class and thinking this would be a good camera to move onto after my entry level sony slr thats just a bit dated now and doesnt pack the punch. this has gotten fairly cheap recently, would it suit my needs for lots of portrait work , and creative film?

  • Awesome photos.. love my 60d...

  • What lense did you used?

  • Have you not seen the videos and films captured by the 60D? For the price range it is second to none. The 60D actually excels at video more so than it does still photography. Most people buy it for the video not the photography.

  • Oooooo I love the shot of the lions at 1:06

    Awesome!

  • Well, the pictures seems alright to me. Maybe it's due to the white background that causes it do look like it does overexposed.

  • Well, I can't speak for any other cinematographer but I just shot a music video with the Canon 60D, I must say, it looks incredible! As an experienced director / cinematographer with 6 full length features under my belt. Canon 60D rocks!!!! Real talk! It's all in who is handling it.

  • The DSLR's are actually being built specifically for Video as well as stills, recently i mean. Too many professonal videographers need the depth of field that DSLR's offer, so they started making them for video as well.

  • I have a 60D and it is an awesome camera.

  • After 7 years my Canon 20D has met its fate with the dreaded Err99 :(

I enjoyed your video as well as your photos. I hope to purchase the 60D one day.

  • in the end it all comes down to the photographer :)

great job with that 60D ;)

  • Comment removed

  • You should see the D7000. :D

  • Cheers for that Blunty. I have heard that canon 60d has overheat issues and the reason why canon 60d is easier to find on used than d7000 is because nikon d7000 has not got any issues what so ever but people seem to find errors with canon 60d and thats why its available everywhere!

Now the canon 60d prices is nearly touching d7000 because of the demand or what happend in Japan...

Do u think Nikon d7000 is the better choice than canon 60d?

I like Canon 60D though ive not used it but still :)

  • Wow. Impressive pictures. :] any chance i could get the one at 3:59? The B&W tiger?

    And really helpful video. Now I'm a 100% sure I'm buying the 60D. :]

  • 60d is awesome!!! I just got mine and i love it! but question... how do you get ur pictures so sharp? do you shoot all on tripods?

    thanks!!

  • Your pictures are amazing.... Wow great job!

  • Do you not use the 18-135 lens that come with the 60d? Are those the only 2 lens that you use all the time? I am trying to get a new lens now for my 60d and not sure what to go with. Thanks for any help you can give.

  • why are you looking into my soul in the beginning of the video O.O

  • with a wealth of similar types of reviews on the web, this is a breath of fresh air. Nice pics, considering the lenses u have on. Overexposed or not, its personal preference and I think they look great. Well done, i enjoyed that

  • absolutely enjoyed this, straight tomthe point, sample shots, and u mentioned that it was tailored to your liking.. thanks...

  • 60d is the best for filming >:D

  • 60D vs 600D(t3I) in filming? Since i would only use it mainly for the video feature which would u say is better in low light and can do high iso with out noise?

    Thanks

  • @huyisthebest get the t3i it has basically the same specs as far as video go and its 100 dollars cheaper

  • Hi mate your vid is awesome , do u recommend 60d over d7000 overall I'm been looking around and I can't decide which one to get

    Cheers

  • @iwaszami get the canon for sure nikon in my opinion sucks donkey dick

  • Thanx a lot for this review

  • my monitor is fine. All the other canon eos 60d videos I've watched today look perfect. Perhaps it's just your youtube video and not the 60d settings. Even your (?) pic at the beginning looks really blown out. And I say all the pics, but after going back and watching it again it's really more like 1/3 of the pics and about 1/2 of the videos. I should be specific on that.

  • Everything looks too bright, white, and washed out is what I mean. My limited knowledge makes me think "overexposed".

  • @myleadmail Then you should probably calibrate your monitor properly, I assure you, none of these pics are overexposed.

  • @Blunty3000 have you even seen the very first pic, YOUR PIC, in this video?!??! The lady at 49 seconds, gorilla at 1:20, your tiger video, again your tiger video, and then most any pic after that minus a gator and a group shot. My monitor is fine, and so is everyone elses. Check your settings.

  • @Blunty3000 @myleadmail

In all honesty, I can see how absolutely perfect white balance, (that's a a compliment by the way) could look "over exposed" to a person with limited knowledge. Lol

  • @Blunty3000 Finally got mine. As primarily a photojournalist it is the bees knees. It will take the lead over the point shoot SX 20 IS which is great for hurry up and get the shot stuff but some courtrooms are so dark you really get hurt trying to use more than half of all of that zoom.

  • @KingCast65 Started with 18-200 next is 50 1.8

  • @myleadmail are you visually impaired??

  • @myleadmail they look overexposed to me also

  • @ChaosRiddenReaper Yep. They look over exposed to anyone. Regardless to what he wants to think our monitors are fine and despite what his histogram says alot of his pics in this video are blown out where ever there is direct lighting. I'm sure his blinkies are going crazy. there is no detail and almost no color in his blown out spots Some of the shots that are not completly blown out looked washed. It almost looks like he was tryign to achieve this faded effect. My 60D does a hella better job.

  • @myleadmail Are you looking the video on a plasma tv?

  • I'm trying to figure out why you're shooting everything so overexposed....

  • @myleadmail I'm trying to figure out of you even know what "overexposed" MEANS. none of the bright end is blown out, every histogram of every shot confirms this. Perhaps you're somehow confused by the fact I like to have a high level of saturation.

  • @Blunty3000 canon cameras really produce o-exposed photos. for me - its the best feature in the box!

  • @Blunty3000

I'm fairly certain that they don't know what overexposed means.

  • @myleadmail not everything....but the garden at 3:22 looks faded rather than overexposed....

  • great pictures mate

    kind regards

  • Hey Blunty can I ask you a question, it's about the Tamron lens. I'm getting these weird purple and green glares in my pictures, did you in-counter this issue, do you know how to fix it or is my lens just busted?

  • @Huskeyyyyy Haven't had anything remotely like that with mine.

  • @Huskeyyyyy are you shooting into or towards the sun a lot?

  • @Huskeyyyyy Sounds like chromatic aberration to me, this could be caused by a faulty lens. Because of the way Tamron(along with Sigma and other third party manufacturers) make their lenses, they tend to be a bit hit and miss.

  • OMG I JUST BOUGHT ONE! It's awesome.

  • the music reminds me of uncharted 2: among thieves

  • i have got to get me one of those cams :)

  • what do you normally shoot yt videos on then?

  • Nice vid! I like the shot of that lizard creature (whatever it's called) @2:58 :D

  • Beautiful pics, I love how crisp they look and the colors are eye popping as well. Good work :)

  • Really nice shots, Blunty! Excellent photo work, and a good solid review to boot.

  • holly crap those shots are awesome =D goood work blunty

  • I fucking love Taronga zoo.

  • Is that a bandicoot at 1:50 ?

  • Yo. Great work on the pictures. Some of the best I've seen. I've got a friend who's big into photography(Big time hobby) and I'll definately be showing him this video to see some of the amazing shots he can get with the camera, since he's been looking for suggestions. Any chance I can get a few of those tiger portraits from you for my mom? She LOVES tigers, and I showed her the video for the pictures, and she loved those. Thanks if ya can. No big if ya can't. Appareciate it! Keep it up!

  • whats the lizzerd called at 3:00

  • How many of the pics did you touch up in post for the video? Just asking because some of the shots looked amazing and some look touched up but how many. Which are you most proud of?

I've been looking at picking up one of these cameras for still and video work. What kind of compromises? mainly the biggest compared to video specific cameras.

    Hope all is well :)

  • @Blunty3000 can you send me that still at 3:14 in your video, that waterfall looks wonderful.

  • I was very impressed with the crispness of the photo of Luna Park and the location you took it from, I suspect Dawes point, under the south western pylon of the harbour bridge, about 500 metres away. Better focus than what my eyes have ever been able to produce.

  • @SauronsEye Further away than that actually. That was taken from just beside the Opera House. I told you that Tamron Lens was surprisingly good ;)

  • @Blunty3000 Oh wait... still photography is your hobby?... now I understand exactly why you hated that 8mm iPhone app.

  • You are a marvelous photographer Blunty, gotta ask though... which do you prefer lately? Nikon or Canon?

  • @orwellianson I do not buy based on brand, I buy based on how the performance and features suit my needs.

  • @Blunty3000 good call...I have been using my new dslr for 7 months..Totaly love it...too many people start flame wars regarding what they use for cameras....for me I'm a pentax man I went to a wedding last saturday and there was Nikons, Canons, Pentax and Sony all around...Please tell me though you are shooting raw.

Another loaded question so please god not flame wars about raw v's jpeg...

  • @orwellianson Agreed good sir. I concur.

  • My question is when will Canon release HDSLR's with 15-perf IMAX sized sensors?

    LMAO, we can all dream.

  • @charvelgtrs When people are prepared to pay for it. You know that only thing, supply and demand. They'll supply it when there's a commercially viable demand for it.

  • I wish the 60D was available when I got my T2i. The T2i is fantastic, but the 60D is just enough better to be worth it.

  • @IdleGod

Really it only has the flip screen and slightly better build. The T2i with Magic Lantern installed is just as good as the 60D.

  • @charvelgtrs !?!

I retract my statement. I did not know that it had been released for the T2i; I shall be installing that tonight.

  • @Bluntry3000 With all due respect, I wasn't trying to "dis" you or your camera. Yes, I do prefer Nikon, but I would never get into a fanboy argument about it

  • You should do more photography related videos!

Also, did you take al of these pictures yourself? They look great...

Another place to go for a great review is cameralabs, ether here on youtube or on their site and forum

    Great video blunty!

  • Hey Blunty can you do video tutorials on how to take pictures like setting ISO, Aperture and what ever else specially night shots say with stars and the moon.. i might just need a more expensive camera but ive been fiddling around with my manual settings trying to take pictures of stars and their not comming out as clear as i would like anyway id like to understand all this stuff cause im interested in photography.. i have a Canon Powershot SX210 IS btw

  • Don't be offended, but this was actually a nice video due to the fact that you do a very nice voice over. You should be proud of that voice!

  • I'm myself a passionate snapper from sweden and I really enjoy all of your videos but this one was especially good and your pictures where great :-) Hope to see more!

  • I have the 30D...do you think it's worth trading it in for whatever measly bit of cash I can get and buying this? I mostly use it for landscapes, some wild life photography 2.

  • I really should buy a DSLR at one point, just for the fun haha

  • Yikes that spider photo scared me! D:

    But otherwise, lovely pictures. ^_^

  • wow thats a really good camera. then again all your cameras are because you know what your doing. how many cameras do you have anyway?

  • Your photography is beautiful. Very professional.

  • Hey Blunty.

If you haven't thought of it, you should cut your hair again, then to a time lapse of it growing out... Or is that mabye too unoriginal?

I thought if it because I saw an older video of yours. Where I realised how shot your hair is.

    Simon - Denmark

  • you ARE a man of many talents... :)

  • Great looking photos Blunty. I need to learn how to use one of those cameras.

  • If I were to EVER have sex with a camera, this one is it.

  • australia is just like a zoo 0.o

  • Brilliant and amazing Blunty! That was more like art than just photos! Just bloody amazing!

  • my only 'buys remorse' is not getting the 7D over the 60D. But still happy with mine.

  • Also, people who are used to point and shoot cameras and are looking for better quality should check out the new 1/3" chip Canon HF-G10, or the new HF-M series camcorders. The sensor is bigger than most camcorders and the total effective megapixels is just over 2 million, so you won't get any downscaling artifacts you see on higher megapixel cameras that shoot video.

  • Comment removed

  • I love my T2i which is the predecessor to the 60D there are mods available that i have yet to find out if they work on the 60D that give you a whole group of video options too,( I bought mine for video) the photo enthusiast in me was also very pleased by the photo options on this cam the mod i use on mine is called Majic Lantern. and it allows volume control and monitoring as well as several other video controls. aside from the screen and focus points not much different in 60D and T2i though

  • @daddytech Magic Lantern kicks ass. I love the zebra stripes and of course being able to turn AGC off and control audio levels.

  • Some beautiful photos

  • Hey Blunty, I have a JVC HM100U, how do I get the the blurred background with a focus on a subject on it... I see alot of people on YouTube using the 60D and it seems to work really good for that and a clear image. Could you review the camera or give me some tips? Thanks :)

  • @xTurnipTimex

I'm guessing the sensor in your camera is 1/3" chip. The sensors in Canon HDSLR's are around the same size as Super 35mm film, so it's a lot easier to get that narrow depth of field (Blurred Background).

You are just not going to be able to get the same narrow depth of field with a 1/3" chip camera unless you buy one of those 35mm adapters. The best you can do now is back up and zoom in on your subject.

  • @xTurnipTimex Rather then try to explain it in 500 characters here, I suggest you google for "Depth of field", you'll find several articles explaining it, how it is achieved, and how best to exploit it.

  • @Blunty3000 Okay Thanks! I check it out and what not, what I am looking for is how to get a shallow depth of field on my JVC HM100 I saw some stuff about using a Letus Lens or something, do you have any thing to add or how I can achieve a shallow depth of field?

  • @xTurnipTimex

Buy a HDSLR if you want to achieve really shallow depth of field. Though, I'd wait until 2nd generation Canon HDSLR's with Digic V processing is released.

  • @xTurnipTimex use a low f rating

  • You're photography skills are superb blunty !

  • beautiful photos and videos! :D

  • I love love LOVE my 60D, I got it as a replacement for my 30D which passed away several months ago. I've been using this semipro series for a few years now, as I go to art school, but take photo and video classes merely for fun.

The video was just an extremely pleasant bonus. :)

  • timelapse is a great hobby to take up if you ever really get into it. If you have the money I really recommend it!

  • Is this camera any good for a beginner? Thanks.

  • @TheEuroGamerz Its aimed more so at an 'experienced hobbyist', meaning for your first DSLR it would be a fantastic camera but maybe a bit too much for a first time. If your still testing the waters as to if this hobby is for you, look at cheaper alternatives, the 1000D or 550D are fantastic substitutes and will save you a lot more money.

  • I bought a 60D before Christmas and I adore it. If only it had a versatile range of 8mm iphone app filters along with the standard ones.

    joking.... seriously I am :)

  • Every Time I shoot with a Canon 60D, I make sure the safety is off. o.O

  • You took some absolutely amazing shots. I am in awe, and hope you share you time lapse...I love them, love you, can't lose!

  • I use a Nikon SB-600 it's an amazing piece of kit. I don't shoot indoors without it.

  • Why not get the 550d? I read that these two are very similar but the 550d is much cheaper. Just wondering.

  • You explain that you wouldn't recommend the 60D as a priority for video. Could you explain why maybe in a video response in comparing with the video camera you do use. I wish to upgrade my compact camera to the 60D for its incredible power but also a replacement from my flip to the 60D because it just worked a lot better at night and just alot more clear

  • Looks like you had a nice trip to the zoo.

  • GODS DAMN IT BLUNTY!!! Why did you have to put a random shot of a spider in there?!? YOU SUCK!! *shivvers with disgust* So many beautiful shots of animals ruined by a freaky little monster...

  • Nate, these are superb pictures. The Canon 60D sure does a fine job, but photography is also about shooing the right things the right moments and choosing the best pictures later on, and you did that fantastically. Kudos!

  • I want this camera as well....but I must ask you......why the hesitation on the Video Taking capabilities?

  • @Digikid2007 I mentioned exactly why. Listen, then ask, please..

  • @Blunty3000 blunty, i noticed that you always answer the comments on a rough way. that's not nice!
