izaya died (somehow) and shizuo had shinra create a robot to replace him. but the robot (psyche) was incomplete (he lacked a heart; a "kokoro"). when he finally got one and izaya's memories("kiseki"), he understood just WHY shizuo did all that for him. and then he malfunctioned and died.
