I had that happen in Beijing, Guilin, and Yangshuo. It was very annoying. China is a beautiful country and there are some cool people.. but because everyone thinks of business and money.. you won't find anyone who just helps you. Hong Kong, S.Korea, and Japan had nicer people.

As a foreigner in China, I guess I'm a magnet to people that want to scam me for money. Don't get me wrong though.. When I interacted with other people like old ladies selling food at a store, they didn't try to scam me.. they were just nice. Also, college students are pretty cool to hang out with.

I lived in China for 3 months never once had anyone try to scam me, in fact I was invitied out for dinner and to someone's home for a home cooked meal.
