Penguins evoke so many feelings. Their mating ritual is ethereal in its beauty. Their tender devotion to their young is touching beyond belief, and the chicks looks adorable hitching a ride on their parents' feet. When the adults flop on their bellies and, like children at play, slide great distances across the slick snow, what incomparable fun it must be to be able to do that.

My husband & I were walking along the beach earlier this year and came upon a Penguin, A group of people were amazed because we were on the Oregon Coast--it sure looked like a penguin & walked like a penguin. It must have escaped from the Oregon aquatic park.

It doesn't matter that penguins don't live in the Arctic. What matters is that oil drilling in the Arctic is a disaster waiting to happen. Whales, dolphins, caribou, musk ox, the arctic fox, polar bear & fish live there. BP killed the Gulf of Mexico & marine life cannot live in the ocean. Oil drilling is creating HUGE undersea dead zones. One dead zone near the mouth of Mississippi is the size of Massachusetts. Does any1 want the Arctic to be another dead zone like the Gulf? Answer that.

Although I am all for conservation, did nobody take note of the comment about saying "NO" to arctic drilling. Penguins live in the Antarctic, not the Arctic. Arctic drilling would have no effect on the Emperor Penguins seen in this video.

@Blue79 If that were true we would not have hundreds of wildlife havens & sanctuaries In the US alone that operate as non-gov't rehabilitation sites to protect animals from humans. Each yr hundreds of thousands of baby birds, mammals & other animals are orphaned when their parent(s) are killed by hunters, poachers, accident, habitat destruction, deforestation, oil spills, injured, victims of hunters, abuse, vehicular accidents or natural events. When possible wildlife is returned to the wild.

@Aetopus - It's getting worse. A 2nd oil leak has been discovered from Shell's Gannet Alpha oil platform off Aberdeen, Scotland & the 1st one has been dumping oil for almost a week. The 2nd leak is worse than the first one & both leaks are already the worst in that region for more than a decade. The environmental damage is incalculable. Oil & nuclear energies are turning more of the world's oceans and land into "dead zones." Say "NO" to oil drilling & exploration & "NO" to nuclear plants!
This video is really touching. It was sent to me by my mom who has stage 4 cancer. Seeing it made me think about nature (of course) but then I thought about family. How those of us fortunate enough to have been loved and cared for by our parents are so very lucky. These beautiful creatures can teach us humans a thing or two about love, compassion, selflesness and the importance of family and just "being there." And still we keep taking away their environment. The booming noise from drilling is so loud and confusing, it could lead polar bear moms to abandon their cubs. Alone and starving, a baby polar bear would repeatedly go into convulsions from the below-zero cold on its slow march to death.

These shots are awesome. To live such bleak lives, and yet to display levels of emotion, priceless. I am a HUGE penguin fan, and truly respect these animals. BTW, I love the bit where the one youngster grabs the wing of the other young one. Gosh, Im' rambling. That's what awe and beauty make me do!

It doesn't matter that penguins don't live in the Arctic. What matters is that oil drilling in the Arctic is a disaster waiting to happen. Whales, dolphins, caribou, musk ox, the arctic fox, polar bear & fish live there. BP killed the Gulf of Mexico & marine life cannot live in the ocean. Oil drilling is creating HUGE undersea dead zones. One dead zone near the mouth of Mississippi is the size of Massachusetts. Does any1 want the Arctic to be another dead zone like the Gulf? Answer that.

Ya just wanna hug em and squeeze em, right before they rip yer head off and eat you. But at least they would be a relevant animal.

Although I am all for conservation, did nobody take note of the comment about saying "NO" to arctic drilling. Penguins live in the Antarctic, not the Arctic. Arctic drilling would have no effect on the Emperor Penguins seen in this video.

@comrodder - The video descrip explains where penguins live & why the message ends with no to arctic drilling. Other animals, seabirds & the fish they eat live in the Arctic. Can you imagine the enormous difficulty of trying to cope with a similar oil disaster in the Arctic ocean like the Gulf, which no longer supports sea life or Americans living there? What if you lived there? Oil drilling is ruining our planet in too many places & have got to go! If you're into conservation focus on that.

@Blue79 If that were true we would not have hundreds of wildlife havens & sanctuaries In the US alone that operate as non-gov't rehabilitation sites to protect animals from humans. Each yr hundreds of thousands of baby birds, mammals & other animals are orphaned when their parent(s) are killed by hunters, poachers, accident, habitat destruction, deforestation, oil spills, injured, victims of hunters, abuse, vehicular accidents or natural events. When possible wildlife is returned to the wild.

@nhbpete thats not the only reason they do this. how would you like it if you had to move every time some selfish animal came into your home just so they could get oil, the thing that has caused us so many problems in the past, present and especially in the future. if you think we can just move helpless animals every time we humans feel the need to be greedy your wrong because people will just keep on saying that till there are no more wonderful creatures left. this is about saving our world.

@Aetopus - It's getting worse. A 2nd oil leak has been discovered from Shell's Gannet Alpha oil platform off Aberdeen, Scotland & the 1st one has been dumping oil for almost a week. The 2nd leak is worse than the first one & both leaks are already the worst in that region for more than a decade. The environmental damage is incalculable. Oil & nuclear energies are turning more of the world's oceans and land into "dead zones." Say "NO" to oil drilling & exploration & "NO" to nuclear plants!

This video is really touching. It was sent to me by my mom who has stage 4 cancer. Seeing it made me think about nature (of course) but then I thought about family. How those of us fortunate enough to have been loved and cared for by our parents are so very lucky. These beautiful creatures can teach us humans a thing or two about love, compassion, selflesness and the importance of family and just "being there." And still we keep taking away their environment. Sometimes I am ashamed to be human.

1. At what price do you think drilling in the arctic will be economically viable? There are leases elsewhere without drilling because the costs outweigh the current price per barrel of oil.
2. Gasoline at $10.00/gallon is a matter of when, not if. Were it not for the economic downturn we would already have gasoline at $5.00 - $6.00/gasoline, thanks to increasing Chinese demand. China is a major consumer of oil and it will only increase.

They try to scare the public by saying you will not be able to find a hydrogen filling station, but its a matter of simple electrolysis to separate the oxygen from the hydrogen in water (google). @drawswithlight - (3) Furthermore, the bribed politicians haven't figured out a way to tax something that falls free from the sky during every rainstorm. There's your economy. Drilling on Arctic land isn't workable but ocean drilling is. Ice moves, melts, an oil rig would not be in the same position it was yesterday on ice. I wouldn't be so quick to blame China, they've got their problems ... heck we all do but we're all on the same sinking ship. Good God Almighty please show us the way.

Penguins are not above the equator. They are only in the Antarctic and one island of the Galapagos. Didn't anyone else notice that mistake?
