i have ah blacdk anht whole and i started an ant farm but id ont want to m,ess up teh nest on catching the queen although i go out side and cath ants every day so my antfarm wont die out
i dont try to cath the queen becasue when i moved here it was already here and its been 5 years so that queen may be old and ready to die so ill wait until it rains and they have there flying thing and ill get about 3 of those big ones and to see if which won satred to make its colony
@Yonggbaek that would be great but ain't so. queens need to be fed specially during larval stages and then they need a mating flight with males to get sperm
well for a starting colony that is a good setup for seeing them but your right a basin/aquarium setup is more natural speaking of wich what ant farm is that?
your better off just getting a mated queen ant. i have one myself. its getting ready to have it babys as i type! u can find them out on the ground on hot days. there large ants with no wings. if they have wing then there not mated so there isn't a point if u dont have a male. so ya make sure its not a carpenter ant.
you could wait untill there mating flights like lizardman8512 sugested or you could dig them up allthough that is not sugested because you more than likely not get the queen and you could destroy a colony that took years maby even decades to build after a lot of ant species have queens that can live to be 30 or more
Ant dude is right.. Back in my day, I'd just grab quite a few of those winged ants when it was the time of year for them to fly off and start new colonies.. Some are queens and some are drones (drones are like a prince.. really I guess the winged females could be called the princess). But yeah.. go to a bed where winged ones are coming out, grab winged ones and grab workers. (be careful, haha)
wait if u got a gel ant farm they ant the gel in the farm adn make a nest for the dirt one make sure have some kind of top when building that make the ant dont try to escape so u put food like grap or honey dip in water ant can lose water overnight that y provide water from a food ant get there water from food they eat. if u need more info ask me.
u are all noob!!!!!! if u want to get a queen u have to dig 4 meeter??? wtf is that just jack some worker ant and larva which is the queen or maybe a felmale baby.
they survive by eating the gel of a gel ant farm. on the dirt one they have a top which alway found of any dirt ant farm or u have to make one it help the ant from trying to escape also the food and water:feed them anything also on water which is there no need for water the ant get their water by eating the food they eat now chip
You can make an ant farm, the problem is getting the queen. An ant population can be as deep as four meters down the earth and be quite huge, so getting the queen is an almost impossible task.

You know that once the queen dies. That one of her female offspring will "turn" into a queen right?

@SalsaTiger83 A queen only needs sperm to make male ants un fertalized eggs are born as female ants

i see you have a wild science kit not ideal for a colony of ants you should use a bigger container like an aquarium

this is why we need cloning. CLone millions of those queens and give them to us the consumer.
raiden55 5 years ago
Even if that happened, you still wouldn't be able to get one due to federal laws in U.S. No shipping queens.
antdude 5 years ago
Or you could breed some sort of queen ant.
