  • I have a 2000 Acura Tl 3.2 Vtec. The transmission on it kicks and in 2nd slips.Still drive it everyday. When i got it the transmission was kicking really bad.So i got transmission fluid for the same car from dealer and it got better. But still does it.The car has 155,000 Miles on it.Looking for a used transmission now.The dealer wont fix it

  • I have '99 TL, it does the same thing, on a cold start though. I have to come to a complete stop for the tranny to downshift to first gear. If I roll through, it will not change or it will start off in 2nd gear which will be a crawling take off. It's such a nice car, but that damn transmission scares me. I'm even thinking about doing a 6sp conversion from a CL or Honda Accord. But that's going to be stupid expensive...A shame...

  • The TL is such a nice car, but christ, the auto tranny... how the Hell could they fucked it up, and why then, (then being from 1997 to 2006 in most cases of any automatic Honda).

  • its because your asian

  • I have the same problem. I tried replacing the selenoids but that only provided a small repair. I'm getting my transmission replaced this week and I suggest you do the same

  • I was driving today, and after about 45 minutes I noticed the trans started shifting rough between first and second. Then I got on the freeway and the tcs came off by itself and check engine light came on, I was told solenoid problem? Any advice would really help. Thanks!

  • This video just proves that no manufacturer is perfect.

  • The transmission for that car uses a combination of 3 solonoids (A,B,C). I believe you have a failing or sticking Solonoid A / B. Follow your battery cable, it splits off and grounds to your transmission. There is 3 Solonoids next to where the cable connects. Also make sure there is no OIL or residue on the outside electrical connections as spilt oil during oil changes tends to land right on them.

Only use HONDA ATF-Z1 fluid or Redline ATF. good luck.

  • I know why it broke, if you know why it broke then thumbs this up.

  • @wootness3000 yup i do. i thumbsed up the video.

  • i have a 2001 tl and the transmission is jacked up,it goes ruff from 2nd to 3rd then goes to 4th and drops to 3rd,the ss dont even work, the d5 light is blinking.push on the gas hard and it feels like the whole car is gonna fall apart,i have an extended warranty and will be taking it to amco tomorrow.

  • @18wheeler76 My Uncle has 02 TL Type S his tranny just went last week, he doesn't have a warranty so he will probably let it set a while till he can save up enough money to fix it($1,900 quote at Ammco).

  • Warning!!! Google “Engine and Transmission World” Beware!!!

Read the complaints; they are crooks, they will rip you off.

  • I've got the EXACTLY the same problem on my MDX. The only way to resolve the problem is to change the transmission?

  • the problem is the tranny is having problems downshifting meaning its stuck in d5 or 5th gear u need to change ur at shift seloniod they are on top of the trans stop starting from d1 it will cause the tranny to slip and fail my rl was doin the same $3600 tranny swap

  • i have same issue (i have 2002 cl type s) - but it only happens during cold start - I need to do a full stop everytime I slow down - I cant just roll the car and then accelerate again - it will not change the gear. Its kinda shame for Acura to have this kind of issues - luxury cars should not have these kind of issues - I owned lexus and mercedes - their trannys are rock solid just like their engines.

  • can't you just put it in tip tronic and shift it?

  • i have the same problem in my cl its a pain

  • that would be bad i u was in trafic and it done that whiloe u was driving..or even at a stop and go...

  • Trust me i know how you feel about this problem.. I am driving my TL same way as you do. Gotta change my Transmission real soon, its 1700$ man....

  • Its too bad this generation has trans problems. I love the 02-03 Type S but it would scare me to trade my 01 Accord V6 for it. The Accords also have the problem but mine is ok at 118k and Im not sure id risk buying an 02 TL and not having the good luck like my Accord

  • @xoquixxoqafx From what I know they used the same transmission in the 98-02 Accords. I love the accords for that year also, especially the coupe. But I will only buy a manual, which is rare, because I have a feeling the auto trans will fail me. I have two friends one with a coupe and a sedan both had their transmissions die. I myself had an 01 TL which started acting funny. Good thing my gf got into an accident with it. My cousins TL died yesterday 150 miles from home, $500 towing fee.

  • damn clean tl!!

  • Thanks everyone for the comments. Just an update on the issue: dealer replaced tranny for me. Warranty covers it. So if anyone have similar trouble, talk with your dealer. Good luck!

  • @gbridge0 I'm glad they replaced it for you. Nice car there.

  • @gbridge0 what was the mileage on your engine ?? cuz dealer in my city didnt do it for me mine has 86 K

  • The only thing you can do is get a new transmission because the filter is internal and you can't change it on the car.

  • These transmissions are shit. Mine just went out at 58000 miles on a 03 TL. they agreed to cover 40% of the cost because the years ran out. The engine is great, just the trans. slipping and grabbing poor design.

  • My car is having the same problem how did you repair this ?

  • im an acura tech

  • Hey just give you a head up....If you are United states resident, your car "Acura Cl" all models must have special warrenty for the transmission problem, due many lawsuite cases over the tranmission deficients, so if I you I would take it to the dealer and have them take a look at even thought you just replace a transmission. Have them fix it for free according to the law and good luck to you!!

  • So what do you do to fix it? Fluid change? or whole tranny change?

  • hey the other day i was driving and i slowed down for a car to turn. when i gave the car gas i heard two knocking noises and i cant go any were. so i stop and turned my engine off and back on and its working normal. but im scared to give it a lot of gas! what should i do??

  • you people don't even know to drive a triptronic, when your in the city it should be in 1-2, D3-D4 , D5 is only for highway driving and its people like you that are ruining these cars.

  • @streetdemon241 putting it in D5 has nothing to do with it...if you put it in D5 the transmission shifts up to 5 Th Gear while driving,it does not start off in 5 Th Gear.

  • try to put it in semi-auto mode

  • Same thing happened to my moms 02 TL Type S 3 times the tranny had to be replaced but then they came up with a stronger transmission so it has not worn out yet like the other ones the car only has 83,000 miles on it.

  • Transmission pump.

  • @vfIskullangel not there was a huge recall on all 99-03 acura tl trannys the clutch pack wore out real fast...so its the second gear clutch pack

  • the problem is the clutch will not release you should get it fixed

  • my 2003 acura tl is in the shop now with a fucked tranny

  • take it back to acura! probably low trans fluid

  • dude, change your fluid asap.

  • damn this Acuras

My uncle bought a 2008 MDX,

He had for a little over one year.

    And the transmission failed

    just like in the video

To bad he put 24 inch rims

and spent about 5 grand in designing it.

The Acura dealer wont fix it either

    NEVER BUY ACURA

    BUY A BIKE INSTEAD

  • what you just said was retarded ! shut up jeez

  • @mortaza2005 well the 2008 has a completely different drivetrain, he probably didnt do the maintenance he was supposed to do and drove it aggressively because those transmissions dont have common problems like the older(pre '07) mdx and 3.2tl and cl transmissions. if acura tells you to do something so that the part doesnt fail and you dont do it why should they fix the part? the warning was there, the car literally tells you when to change which fluids/filters

  • Gman lmao your spelling is worse hahaha you think your better and smarter i dont think so .....brockery?!? LMAO

  • ROTFLOL! I love this guy's accent, makes me want to order some shrimp with brockery.

  • I love Honda/Acura I have a 05 accord coupe, but they really should get kicked in the face for these garbage trannies they farted out.

  • never buy a car designed by americans for americans like your honda.

  • HUH?????? Designed in America???? where you gettin your info because its blah

  • ... where do you think it was designed?

  • I can care less where it was designed, everyone I know with a Honda/Acura loves them and has had no problems.

  • yeah the acura tl is the olny car made in the usa

  • @karsseboomh22 no it's not, but all cars made in the usa have problems. i know, i was unfortunately the owner of a nissan altima and a toyota camry, both american cars =/

  • no the acura tl is the olny acura that they sell as just acura all others are hondas from japan with the front badge changed to acura to sell for money...look

    acura rl= hond legend

    acura nsx= honda nsx

    acura rsx= honda integra

    2002-03 acura=honda inspire

    acura tsx=honda accord

they come with all the leather optionsa nav all of it they jus change the name an sell for more cash

  • @karsseboomh22 no, the tl is an american honda accord, albeit one that's been firmed up considerably (for the one currently on sale, anyway)

  • no the tsx is the honda accord all over the world with the exception of the US...the tl may be made from the accord platform but IS NOT THE ACCORD the tsx is i lived in japan for three years i know this stuff

  • @karsseboomh22 what do you mean you know this stuff? acura isn't sold in japan... the tl is the same platform as the accord, that's what i said, so who are you arguing with? i don't consider cars individualistic just because their body looks different. if the chassis is the same, it's the same car, as this is what actually counts.

  • ok what im saying is the acura rl IS the honda legend. Not that they share the same platform. The acura tsx IS the honda accord not that they share the same platform...The rsx IS the new integra not that they share the same platform. Now the acura tl does share the same platform but is not the accord in japan...all those acuras are honda the OLNY thing changed is the emblem notthin ELSE, they all come with navi leather etc. over there too

  • @karsseboomh22 The acura tl is the honda aspire in japan

  • lmfao... i agree... my accord v6 had the same probs lol

  • replace the tranny ATF filter every 20000 miles or so when it slips again

  • What exactly do you have to remove to get to this filter of destiny?? I can't see shit in there, I can barely get a funnel onto the fill plug to refil the fluid after I drain it.

  • when you open the hood standing in front of car it's on right side of engine it

s a screw on filter it's basically connected to the transmission close to the fill plug the filter has some brackets holding it to the side of transmission also transmission cooling are connected to it so if ATF filter is clogged transmission will slip also some people say transmission solenoids they are magnetic so they collect metal chips might go bad they send signals to change gears but change ATF Filter first

  • are you a member of acurazine?

  • I have some similiar symptoms but my D5 flashes sometimes , and does same thing it doesnt accelerate from stop but when I restart car it resets and accekerates again ok , also you should change you ATF filter it's a screw on filter and drain only Fluid change DO NOT flush the Tranny dealer does Draing only too m ATF fliter change and recall installation of jet kit to 2nd gear from dealer helps :) hope it helps

  • where is filter located

  • I feel your pain, I had the same problem with my TL, I told honda about it and they wanted to charge me $3400 for a transmission thats going to do the same thing and only give me a 7000 mile warranty! I gave up and went to AMMCO and they did a total overhaul with aftermarket parts, now it feels like like a brand new car with a 50,000 mile warranty.
