  • SG, do you plan on reviewing the Midwest Industries 30 mm scope mount? Great channel by the way, subscribed! Good to see more quality and innovative gear for AK's.

  • Thats awesome, I have tried other side rail mounts but they angled back so mounting a scope required a very goofy cheek weld. This is forward so you can chock up on it like normal. Pls the co-witness is huge!

  • Between this and the texas weapon system, which do you like better on an ak-74?

  • Это не АКМ Это АК - 74М!!!

  • Hey nice vid!

What is the folding stock that folds to the right?

    Thanks! :)

  • Hey I'm looking to purchase this sometime this week. Would you recommend a Primary Arms m3 clone or a Vortex Strikefire?

  • @nachonad I prefer the StrikeFire.

  • Superb review!

  • how close to cowitnessing is the strikefire on this mount?

  • @freakyfast95gts The co witness on this mount is better than the ultimak.

  • Czechpoint USA has a AK style sight rail for the vz-58 and have an optic mount for it, however they also say on there sight that while most mounts will fit they may prevent the weapon from ejecting properly

  • will this mount work on a vz. 58 rifle?

  • @longtrangm1a No. The vz.58 doesn't share any components with the AK rifle, they are two totally different rifles.

  • @Sturmgewehre so what your saying is there side mounting rails are different and this mount wont work?

  • @longtrangm1a I've never seen a vz58 with an AK optics rail on it.

  • @Sturmgewehre there is a video on youtube by czechpoint that has a vz. 58 with what looks like a side mounted rail holding a red dot. im guessing the one you have and most dont have this?

  • @Sturmgewehre will it work on a draco sbr?

  • @N609B It dosent have the rail :(

  • @SpiritOffAdventure22 Thanks bro

  • @N609B Pretty sure it won't. The Draco doesn't have the side rail that this mounts to.

  • @Tramsootru thanks for the info

  • Thank you for the complete review MAC! We are giving a free AKM out in a random drawing Sept 1. Follow us on twitter or facebook for a chance to win!

  • Great review. One question, however. I am a left handed shooter, would this mount, or the throw lever in particular interfere with my grip of the rifle, or trigger pull?

  • Is that the Mako stock? If so how are you liking it? I almost picked one up, but didn't want to get stuck w/ POS if it didn't work.

  • @Springr1911

I L.O.V.E. the Mako stock. I would rather cut off my left arm that give that stock up at this point. I've never found a more useful stock for an AK. It installs easily without modification. The stock is built like a tank. The riser for the cheek piece rocks for optics. It folds easily but locks in the extended position positively. And it looks right at home on y Arsenal AK.

  • @Sturmgewehre Glad to hear it. I wish there was a video before I bought the setup I have. Which is a great set up, but it doesn't fold that's for sure.

  • You know Bro...I don't own an AK...well, yet anyway...but you make me really want to get one....

    Thanks for the info....

    Target On...E1

  • buying one for sure...say goodbye to those crappy waser sights

  • since this was posted ive changed my mind in that the TWS dust cover mount doesnt really seem to be a clear winner here, this side ride mount has its own place and is just another tool of the trade. peace

  • Very interested in this setup to replace the Russian Kobra red dot I currently own. However, the AK I plan on using it with has a hooded front post. Do you believe there would be any issues with co-witnessing or with the red dot sight picture itself with this setup and a hooded front post?

  • Oh. If your reflex on the MI gets busted, stomp it flat :P

  • Off this topic, but I bought a Kahr CW-9 after your recommendation and I'm very happy with it. 450 rounds and no problems at all plus amazing accuracy for a pocket gun. Thanks.

  • I just wanna say that the left hand side folding issue is more the rifle as i've seen it doesn't matter what you have on the rail you still can't lock it if you have an optic on the rail

  • I just got an AK yesterday. Have a new stock, grip, and some rail panels on the way.

  • What is the length of that stock from the receiver? I like the NATO size k-var stock, but would like a folder and this has the cheek riser.

  • Excellent review.

  • do you think this mount would bother a left handed shooter

  • @jamiesxe

I don't believe it would make any difference. It should be even more out of the way for a lefty.

  • @Sturmgewehre ok thanks, nice video

  • @Sturmgewehre Please tell me what folding stock is that you have on your AK at 4:24. The one that folds to the right. And where I can purchase one?

  • @crest2598

It's the UAS-AK stock offered by The Mako Group. I have a video on it titled "AK Accessories by the Mako Group".

  • @SpiritofAdventure22

I had to pull it due to a mix-up with The Mako Group. They gave me the wrong info (and sent the wrong stock that I requested). The one featured in that video is the $438 stock when I ordered the $144 polymer stock. I will hopefully have both stocks to review side by side, but the one you see in this video is amazing. I guess it should be for $438. :)

  • will this mount interfear with an underfolding stock in anyway?

  • @longtrangm1a

I've not seen an underfolder with the side rail, so I can't comment. But my assumption would be that the stock wouldn't lock in the folded position. But as I said, I've not seen an AK configured this way in person so I don't know for sure.

  • @Sturmgewehre

REALLY NICE MOUNT ! thx !!

  • ...the Mako stock, thanks.

  • Nice review once again...would you happen to know the model # of the stock you have?

  • @bawitibaw

Go to the Mako Group website and look for the UAS-AK stock.

  • @Sturmgewehre that buttstock is sweet

  • Awesome product with a great review

  • Answer product with a great review

  • Solid review sir, well done! I don't even own any Russian steel but I definitely enjoyed watching.

  • holy crap! That thing's more roust than the gun it attaches to!

  • Such a mounting solution may make me choose to buy an SAR-1 instead of a Romanian PM 63-65. Original PM63 obviously don't come with a dogleg scope mount, but the civilian SAR-1s do.

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting.

  • Hey Bro,

Do you get a lower 1/3rd co-witness, or do the irons fall right near the bottom of the comp sight?

  • @MARINE1146

On my two Saiga rifles I get a comfortable lower 1/3rd co-witness with the Comp M2.

  • @Sturmgewehre Thank you.

I own a pair of SGL21's, so this would work perfect.

  • Would this mount work with the Vortex Strikefire optics?

  • @Arphalia

Yes, it will work with most 30mm RDS's including the StrikeFire.

  • @Sturmgewehre Awesome, thankyou!

  • @Arphalia Strikefire is one of the longest 30mm Red Dots, people have reported trouble field stripping with the sight on due to the size... It will mount and fit just fine tho.

  • I have the RS-AKM with a Primary Arms M3, for less than $240 you have your self a great sighting system. I am getting to old to see well down the irons and this setup helped a ton without sacrificing anything.. Held zero for over 500 rounds now and shooting with both eyes open has really improved my accuracy.

Thanks for the review, I didnt quite understand how to use the pins but you made it very clear.

  • What kind of side-folder do you have on that SGL-31? Do you have to mess with the rear tang to install it?

  • @BackpackingVideos

It's a stock offered by The Mako Group. It drops right in without having to cut or otherwise modify your tang. It takes a couple of minutes to install with nothing more than an allen head wrench.

  • ...I like that it can co-witness with the Comp M2 - nice!

  • neat product

  • holy crap is that the same fence you usually shoot next to? now that the snow is gone it looks entirely different!

  • @trenttyre

Yup, that's the same spot. Crazy, itsn't it?

  • I got my AKM last week, LOVE IT!

  • @sturmgewehr would you take this mount over the TWS dustcover mount? Im attempting to make a sudo flat top AK using the TWS dustcover mount and a Midwest quad rail so I can completely remove the original irons and install magpull flip up sights. I don't plan on shooting past 200yds with this setup so it doesn't have to hold a absolutely perfect zero.

  • I didn't quite understand the tension system could you do some details on that

  • Excellent review of an apparently excellent product. The quality of AK-related information provided by this channel is unsurpassed.

  • What stock is on the rifle that you used for most of the video, the right hand folding stock?

    I like it.

  • @Kylef7735

I am posting a review of that stock today as well. It's a stock imported by Mako Defense called the UAS-AKP stock. Check back shortly for the full review.

  • outstanding explination of some outstanding engineering.

  • 200 bucks seems like alot for a mount. Wish they coulda sold it for less.

  • @jdessell

True but you get what you pay for .

  • @jdessell

It's not $200, you can buy it from Brownells for $139.

  • Love this mount. If only the tension lever was matte finished. The lever is crazy glinty unless you sand and paint it yourself. If they made this in DE Brown as well as black...it would be a perfect 30mm option for this weapon.

Great video! I pray GOD bless you and yours.

  • what folding stock is that?

  • @TheMechAlchemist

It's the Mako Defense (FAB Defense) UAS-AKP stock. I'm posting a review of it today.

  • @Sturmgewehre Very nice! That mount and optic would look very nice on you Draco!

  • too bad TWS beat them

  • @Sturmgewehre

Why is the name of your channel "Sturmgewehre"?

its the German Word for Assault Rifles...

  • @yunGang84 Actually it means Storm Rifle...

  • That is very similar to the kobra red dots.

  • I can't understand what kind of differences you have found between your mount and POSP mount? I had no problems with its alloy at all. And it fixes on the rail very strong. Btw, I had such a mount that you shown and I sold it when I bought POSP.

  • Hell, even Russians would like this.

  • @shootcentermass If the red dot fails (although highly unlikely with an Aimpont), you can fall back on your iron sights. The red dot is not "smack dab" on the front sight. This mount allows a 1/3 lower co-witness, so you have to really bury your cheek into the stock to get lined up with those irons. It works. The irons don't get in the way of the dot, and the dot doesn't get in the way of the irons.

  • Very nice! I love how you setup your AKs bro.. Thanks for sharing!

  • There's something about side mounts on AK's that really bothers me. Not sure why but I just don't like them and have little confidence in their performance in a combat scenario, mostly due to bad experiences in the past. This mount seems like a vast improvement and yet I still think I would prefer a forward mounted optic. Thanks for sharing.

  • @shootcentermass Co-witnessing irons and optics is used as sort of a fail-safe. Optics fail, batteries die, Murphy shows up and operators need to be able to continue to fight, and removing the optic entirely might not be an option at the time. With co-witnessed irons, you can still sight down your iron sights through the tube of the optic. Most modern mounts place the iron sight picture in the lower 3rd of the optic's field of view so using the optic isn't a problem.

  • Thanks for the video. Can you co witness with this mount.

  • i know what im buying next time i get paid..

  • Wow, that is a very well thought out mount! I thought you were going to show me a simple mount for 30mm sights. Now I want a AK and this mount!

  • im just wondering if this will work with my VZ58 ?

  • @MrLongbranch303 well if you have an kalashnikov siderail then yes, but Vz58s dont come with those

  • @Xzibit9 my Czech small arms VZ came with a AK side mount ,, i live in Canada we get the real deal here no US built 922r copys ... im just worried cause a vz ejects straight up and with that mount the empty shells might contact the optic?

  • @MrLongbranch303 sorry cant answer that, I only shot Vz58s w/o the side mount, hope somebody helps

  • @MrLongbranch303

I don't know, I haven't had the chance to handle a Vz.58 with such a mount. However, I would assume if the mount is there it's designed to clear spent casings from the ejection port, otherwise any optic you put up there would cause problems. This mount is tough enough to take a few hits, so I wouldn't worry about that.

  • It's times like these that I wish Norinco AKs had a side mount.

  • Dear santa......

  • @pacewilliams Christmas is over half a year away, dumbass -- with your "Dear Santa" comment. Just shell out the cash for this mount already. It's worth it.

  • Awesome review Sturmgewehre!! Have you heard anything about the Echo93 AK sling plates?

  • cool stuff

  • kalinka optics has a version of this too, so its not a new thing no offense.

  • God, I followed this product for so long and after seeing this video I think the wait was worth it and I hope this video helps in the selling of this great product.

Awesome video, and keep up the good work!
