How is it unlikely? if you cancel out the flood, there leaves a "gap theory", a time for men to migrate around the planet. Gen 11:9 the Lord scatter them. We can't pick and choose what and what not to believe. you do, or you don't.

Earth- in Hebrew, eretz, which means "land", if you recall, when the bible was written, there was no concept of a globe, so eretz did not meant the whole earth.

an exegetical study of Noah is the best way to go about it. This way, we do not place our pre-concieved ideas into an era that did not have them.

The earth WAS different- if not physically, then at the very least in their own minds. There is nothing wrong with this view. It doesn't insinuate that God is a liar. It points out that God acted according to the era.
