  • I would love to see this song performed again so I could catch the beginning. What day/time is the concert?

  • haha crystal river high school is doing this again :D im doing it for my sophmore year but you missed the best part for basses in the beggining with mournful "Ahs" btw im a bass 2 :D

  • hoh! that soprano made me shiver!

  • I'll take that as a compliment and pass that on to Brittany! Thanks for the comment!

  • Awesome <3

  • Thank you! I'll pass that on!

  • Your sopranos are nice, but they're terribly overpowering. At least they're not screechy. As an alto myself, I'm disappointed to not hear the altos. And the vowels are a bit spread. This version is lovely, though.

  • Especially at the "Sie est dolor...' parts. I'm an alto too and in my opinion, the altos and tenors at that part of the song is one of the prettiest parts.

  • i sang this a few years bac with my old choir. i would have loved to have heard how they did the first part where it sounds like wailing. mine did a bad job since they didn't prenounce the words correctly and only a few of us did. i can't tell if they are saying the words the right way or not but they sound okay.

  • Thanks for the comment. I wasn't able to start my camera right away and that's why the first part is missing.

  • Are choir is doing this song and I love it. I think it should be slowed down a bit so that you can pay extra attention to where the accents and crescendo's ared. Vowel placement is also key in this piece. We have been working forever but I can truly say we are very good. GOOD JOB!

  • It is a very powerful piece. And very hard to get perfect, you're right. Thanks for the compliment and Good Luck!

  • I think the tone could be more mature sometimes but nice job! my choir is learning this song.

  • omg... nice song can someone tell me the name of the composer?

  • I believe it is Z. Randall Stroope.

  • thanks alot!!! i want my choir to sing this song...

  • When we sang this song last year we had 2 problems--the sopranos over powered the altos, and the second problem was that we couldn't stay in tune.

I don't have an ear for how this piece sounds to an audience, so I can't offer tuning stuff. One thing I did notice, however, was that the major portions of some parts seemed to be really chewing their vowels on the main "recodare" theme.

Every time I've ever done Latin, I've had to rid myself of any & all diphthongs, leaving a lot of pure vowels.

  • I've noticed that this particular song has a lot that can go wrong with it from watching other performances. The sopranos overpowering the altos is one of them. Thanks for your comment! Let us know if you post any videos of that performance, we'd like to see it.

  • Good pitch! This is a good choir.

    Also the directing seems solid.

It is a pity if, as you say and can be heard, "Brittany" is the only S1 on top. Staggered breathing really helps in a piece like this...

    Good job!

  • Thanks a bunch for your comment! The director is a wonderful teacher! He is well loved by his students. Thank you again for the compliment! I'll pass it on to Brittany.

  • My school choir did this and O Magnum Mysterium by Victoria for the NC large ensemble festival this year and got straight 98s. I love this song

  • That's great! Let us know if you post any videos of it! It is a great song! Very powerful and moving!

  • i don't believe anybody got a video of it but i will ask around just in case

  • Great, Let us know!

  • it's a bit too bright, but you have nice voices

also, soprano's need to back down a bit at si est do lor because you can't hear the alto's at all and they have the prettiest part. :]

  • Yep, thanks for the comment.

  • you can hear voices sticking out from the tenors and basses, and some sopranos spread their vowels too much and at one point you can hear the first soprano using vibrato which shouldn't be used in a choir. But overall its okay.

  • tenor and bass need to be more dark. everyone overall. nice job tho.

  • Thank you!

  • Yeah, definitely need to reel that high A back in. I just performed this with my university chorale. There were three high sopranos, we were in an incredibly ringy space, and we managed to balance out the rest of the choir (and our director told us to back off in dress rehearsal too because we were still too loud at a f). It's not hard to hear a high "A" over a choir singing fff, even if that "A" is at a forte or even a mf depending on how supported it is.

  • it might interest you to check out the Philippine Madrigal Singers interpretation of one of Stroope's works - Riveder le Stelle, seach 'madz'

  • its pretty good but you can hardly hear the alto section.they have the nicest part when they sing "si est do lor" its an amazing song and you guys did a great job!we sang this song in Carnegie Hall this February with Mr Stroope! He is wonderful!!!!!!!

  • I was in that choir at Carnegie hall!!

  • Sopranos need to blend more, but nice job over all...thats a really fast tempo, our choir did it so much slower than that. lol

  • It's an intense song...it's supposed to be that fast. The Latin is in the vocative, you're commanding the audience to "LISTEN!!" "Si est dolor" can obviously be taken slower because it's an incredibly mournful section.

  • Wooooooooooooooooow Brittany...8-|

  • pretty good Job. Me and My Choir are gonna sing this song when we perform at the Northern California Golden State Competition as the returning winners from last years competition (Monte Vista High Chamber Singers) Im so excited! We are gonna bring the house down with this piece!

  • it's well done however, blending would be nice. And fricken kick those other sopranos asses Brittany- they shouldn't have done that. I personally hate it when that happens. Good job overall.

  • yall have a really good soprano in there somewhere!!!

  • *singing- not sining

  • I'm so used to singing it so differently, but I guess every director has their vision.

Did you guys have a visual for this song?

We sung this song, actually today at a national ACDA convention in Miami. I was apart of an auditioned national honor choir. Z. Randall Stroope was there and told our group that we sang it with more emotion and expression than he has ever seen. He absolutely loved it! I will add us sining as soon as i get the dvd.

  • Well the reason you can hear the high soprano is because there apparently is only one female on that part!

  • z. randall stroope is the man...

  • Our choir is singing this for festival, and I am SO excited. You guys did pretty well, but you had a soprano sticking out (vibrato).

  • why'd they slow it down on parts of the song...and some parts are sped up...i dont know much about music but we sang it differentely when i was in choir

  • great job! our choir is going to do it for festival! i can't wait to get it learned and sung! it is going to be great!

  • Good job. My choir's doing this for the festival of gold. woooot

  • very good. i sang this song at state with my choir. the sopranos overbear the alto's a lot (especially first sopranos). we had the same problem tho and it took forever to fix. nicely done though! good diction!

  • st pats is doing this piece this year for festivel of gold in chicago...i love this song..

  • we are doing this for festival and it is so freaking awesome. when i first heard this song and it sent shivers up my spine and still does.

  • fesitval of Gold?

  • freaking awesome song. we did it 2 years ago in concert choir and just got it again this year.

  • I love this song...I sang it with my All-District Choir last year...Im singing a song this year by the same guy who wrote lamentations this year called "Amor De Mi Alma" you should look at that song. Anyways good job! ^_^

  • We also sang this last year at All-Region and are singing Amor De Mi Alma at All-Region this year also.... What a coincidence!

  • My high school did this too, I love this piece. Nice job soprano, it's cool to hear a different choir sing it. We had a choir of 200 so the sound was massive, but I love your redition of the song.

  • WOW...VERY VERY GOOD! Her highest note was a B5,A TRUE SOPRANO!

  • I like it tiff!!!

  • nice sound...great sopranos!!!

  • Thanks...we had to work Our butts off to figure out how to not overwhelm everyone else in the group and we still wort of did...
