I really can't seem to nail it, and I really want to start competing for times but i simply can't do it if I can't figure it out. I use a xbox 360 controller and I play on the PC. I hold up, move to the right as much as its possible just before his walking animation i spin dash full while holding the stick in that direction while I jump. Any ideas ?

The glitch is weird on the PC version from what I've heard, unfortunately. Most people I know with the PC version have a lot of trouble pulling it off.

I've learned quite a bit from this speed run, especially the speed glitch. I don't think without this, I'd get close to being in the top 100, let alone being #10 in the rankings for 360, so thank you.

Although, I have to ask, how are you hitting that sweet spot, so you completely ignore the first shuttle loop at the beginning? I've been trying but every single time I do, I seem to just either get stuck on the loop, or completely fly off in the opposite direction, lol.

@SFtheWolf I'm actually doing the glitch every time I jump at the beginning of the level to build up speed. The spot you need to hold is very specific. And yeah, you do have to be at a certain speed, but a fully charged spindash is fast enough to trigger it.

How is this broken? This is how you're SUPPOSED to speed run with classic Sonic. Sega deserves immense credit for realizing that and building the game around it.

However English voices + Omochao not turned off means the uploader fails anyway.

second - this was the demo. check the upload date. you can't turn off omochao in the demo. and i always stick with the english voices anyway. i don't care enough to change it, it sounds fine to me.

@SFtheWolf S'fine. As for the glitch, compare with my other run in 41.93 (watch?v=Ovu8atBR4KQ), which doesn't have the glitch. It makes you go flying absurdly fast, way faster than it's normally possible to go. It's normally not possible to get up to the top path at the beginning at all without bouncing off the buzzbomber, let alone go high enough to go flying over the loop.

it's about what direction on the stick you're holding. if you stand still, hold up, and very slowly turn the stick to the right, you'll want to turn it just BARELY far enough right that sonic starts walking. hold that direction and spindash + jump. darkspinessonic figured it out.

Hold a very very specific direction and jump when you gain enough speed. Hold up and slowly move the stick to the right until it's just barely far enough to make Sonic start walking, then hold that. DarkspinesSonic figured out and described the exact spot on the stick for me so he's awesome.
