As much as I agree with the paragraphs of appreciation of Freddie, I don't think that much needs to be said. He was an incredible person. Plain and simple.
@noodles356 sure queen would've not been the same without freddie. but that also goes for any of the other 4. personally, i find freddie's solo work nowhere near as good as queen was, and it wouldn't have been as successful. that's how you know that queen's success was not freddie alone.
SIMPLY BRILLIANT.Freddie Mercury had the most purely perfect voice I have ever heard.Amazing song writer, he designed Queens logo.chose their name in part because it is regal and absolute he was the Greatest Frontman EVER.was loyal to his friends shy and sweet in his private life.he was part of something so rare Queen .Brian May guitar master Roger Taylor extrodonary drummer John Deacon fantastic bass I was lucky saw them in concert '77 and'78 nothing like them.will always miss Freddie
@noodles356 Freddie was Queen? True Queen fans know that Queen was 4 people, each one with a valuable creative capacity essential to Queen's sound. If you listen to Freddies solo work you'll know it sounds nothing like Queen. Freddie was the front man but he wasn't the sole creative force.
these fucking critics (especially rolling stones should be banned leeching off Queen's legacy they never supported in 1st place) only throw around "theatricality" lazily. what constitutes queen/freddie's "theatricality" & how does it differ from those of Kiss, Liza, broadway, vegas, opera, bowie, glam scenes etc? can they even observe and articulate the nuances? or is it just wheezing by & denigrate some1's originality because they're too bigoted &arrogant to anything not rock-god cool like zep?
I've always found it intriguing how certain singers speaking voices are so different from their speaking voices. Hearing Freddie speak, you'd never guess he was one of the greatest vocalists of all time.
I agree with you. For me, "A Millionaire Waltz" and "Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy" push "Races" past "Opera" on the greatest records of all time list.
@iwantitall23 no that is not John Deacon. That is just some music historian guy...dont remember where he is from...something like Rolling Stone or some magazine like that.
I know its going to sound crazy but I think Day at the Races was a better more cohesive album than Night at the Opera...NATO has its genious moments like this song and BoRAP but overall, I prefer Day at the Races....Ok kill me now!

no I meant they did 1 duo with a raper in a rapish version of another one bites the dust but it was horrible so it dident make records but its on there greatist hits platnum adition on disck 3
no wrong queen didn't do a rap version of another one bites the dust,
that song is just Wyclef Jean rapping over a queen base, and was done in 1998(if i'm correct for the cartoon toy story), 7 years after freddy death which obviously couldn't do a duet with him
One of my numerous favorite ones from Queen! Amazing! A little Fox-trot... One song illustrating the genious of Queen: no common structure and so much creativity and orchestration
dude, wtf are u talking about? we will rock you was on news of the woirld with came out like 2 albums later, that song didnt even exist within a year or two of night of the operas release
@cycoturkey101 I'm not sure what you mean by "doesn't fit into this album." Have you listened to the whole thing? It has waltz-time pop, operatic hard rock, a vaguely Judeo-Christian-themed religious poem, a rather risque ode to a car, a space/folk science fiction short story, skiffle and some generic rock/pop along with this song. What is it that you think DOES belong on this album? What's amazing about this album is that, through it all, there remains a consistent sense that it's all Queen.

When I was younger I never cared about music, I just followed the fads (Backstreet Boys, N Sync, allthat junk). But in grade 8 was when I first heard Queen (not just the typical Champions stuff, but Killer Queen) and it blew my mind. I started listening to more and more of them, then Zeppelin, then AC/DC, then I picked up a guitar, then the trumpet, then drums, then more classic rock and metal bands. Queen seriously changed my outlook on music and inspired me to play.
When I was a kid I didn't care for music much at all. My dad used to play a LOT of queen. I'm a queen fan since I was like 3 or something but they never got me to go and find any other bands. When I got bored with queen (yeah I can't believe I just said that-that's because I only had like 2 or 3 albums back then) I just stoped listening to any music because I didn't like the modern trendy stuff. Then when I was about 12 I picked up my old albums again and now I also play guitar because of Brian.
@ozman626 Sounds almost like my story :O Killer Queen also changed my music taste totally. AC/DC was my very first change though :) And now I play 5 instruments, and love everything from soft rock and blues to metal
@ozman626 same here man, when I was 6th grade I was listenin' to what everyone else was listening to (mainly rap and hip-hop)...but half way through 7th grade, I got into the Eagles, then I discovered Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen, and so on and so on all the way through dictionary of classic rock
It's Beautiful how one never gets tired of commenting about Freddie. His unlimited talent made the grade troughout music history. His legacy has changed minds all aorund the world. I actually became a musician for him (among other geniuses). Our vocabulary lacks of words for expressing how grateful I for getting to hear him sing. God save the Queen.
One of the all time great rock n roll bands of all time that could play many different styles that sometimes gets forgotten in the lexicon of the gendre'. Freddy Mercury was an original, never to be duplicated, tunesmith in the spirit of a Mozart...Unfortunately for use regulars, these types burn there flame too quickly, only leaving their afterglow to be remembered.
That's none of our business...what the hell matters if Freddie was gay, bisexual or straight???!!! Why should we care about it?? Just see how superior he was..
you dind't know that first? see how he is acting on the stage..you really can see he is a gay! But that doesn't matter to me, because he 's a great singer! I'm Dutch, and in the Top2000, a musiclist in the Netherlands, is Queen 22 times with a song!
You see, my English is not very well, but i think you can read it XD
Don't know what Nurnlrl is on, but it must be pretty strong. For one, don't accuse Freddie Mercury of any sort of theft, and two, I don't know where the hell you got the idea that When I'm 64 and Seaside Rendezvous are anything similar, but wherever you got it, it's wrong. Anyway, forgetting the nutcases, this is a brilliant song. I love it so much
Not to take anything away from Freddie Mercury, but I think that you could nearly sing "when I'm 64" to the same music, and in almost the same style? OK all the music hall stuff is similar but....
