:06 a broken pull ring! I had that happen a couple of times (pliers are your friend, just be careful!) The modern equivalent is the pull tab breaking off before (or even if) the mouth of the can is pushed open all the way (the solution there is to push the piece down the rest of the way with your finger if you're brave or something else if you're not!)
Three engines in three years were likely because you were neglecting the valve adjustments or oil changes, or both. Most VW engines are killed by these simple procedures that really should be done at every 3000 miles. I just rebuilt the engine in my 1963 (built September, 1962) last year. It lasted 48 years and over 180,000 miles.
I had a '62 and i went on a trip from San Diego to San Francisco and back in 1972, it only took 17 quarts of oil (truth) I loved it but it went through 3 engines in 3 years, but hey the engines were cheap
I've got a Beetle and it's proven to be very reliable. Yes it takes more maintenance than a modern car but in the 15,000 miles I've driven this 48 year old car the only problem I've had is a broken throttle cable.
I'm so glad you post these. Most people would laugh at the statement 'few things work as well as a VOlkswagen' and these days, its kinda true. They aren't as reliable as they used to be, BUT, mine is 40 years old and still does its thing. Let's see some of those modern computerized ones start at all 40years after their making. ;-) Love em always
I've had very mixed reviews about the beetle, some people have told me it was an uncomfortable heap of underpowered garbage that would break down at every corner while others nearly live by them. I believe in the latter despite never having owned one (I live by my family's four old Volvos :D)
You're so welcome. It's a year ago I added the first beetle commercial on youtube. Just 5 minutes ago I added this one and already people are enjoying it!! Youtube is great!

What happened to the VW? This car was made so well but the new ones are really crappy. So many recalls. Can't help myself I'm addicted to VW's.

Those old VW commercials were very creative and clever. Probably why so many Beetles were sold alone.
The Beetle was a very reliable vehicle for the price.
Thank you for sharing these wonderful commercial ads beetlejuice!
