i remember sitting in my dad's car when i was young and he would put the tape for this song into the player, he would explain the meaning of this song to me but i didn't really understand the meaning at that time. Recently we heard this song together on youtube, i couldn't help but tear up after understanding the song as i felt that even though i have made many mistakes that hurt them deeply, they will always be there for me :')
Thanks to DheysDima96 I do now know the meaning of the words. And they are so true..I'm a father and I see my son being strong willed and asserting total freedom in his life, saying he should be given the rights to do as he pleased. He is only 16..
1:29 onwards... Then you suddenly changed You became hard headed And you disobeyed their every word You didn't even think That what they were doing was for you For what to please to do Is to follow your own path So you didn't take notice of them Many days passed And you became lost in your travels And you fell into a bad doing And the first person that ran to Was your Mother who was in tears And her question, 'Son, why did you become like that?' .. translations up to 2:33
When You were born into this world Great happiness came to your parents Their hands are your light. And your Mother and Father Who didn't know what to do Glances even at your sleep And at night your Mother tires herself From making your milk And in the morning you are sat on the lap Of the Father who's so delighted at you Now that you're all grown up You'd like to be free However they do not allow it There's nothing you can do ... translations from start to 1:29
COULD ANY PERSON PLS TRANSLATE THESE WORDS INTO ENGLISH MY TAGALOG IS VERY IS THIS THE DOVE SONG GOD BLESS THE PHILIPPINES LONG MAY THE FLAG WAVE STRONG & PROUD

Today a young man killed six people and wounded many in a mall in his home town. Then his shot himself. His parents must be going through hell and it made me think of this beautiful song. I dedicate this to them, the parents who once were happy with the birth of a beautiful baby boy........
@pilotz23 That's the big question right now. Normally it's very difficult to get weapon permit and he had a permit for three weapons eventhough he was known by the police and he also had a mental illness history. He should never have that permit in the first place. And yes, it's very tragic. The oldest victim was 92 years old. What a way to end.

I heard this song in 1977 in Philippines. I was student there. Still after 33 years I love this song. Brings me back a lot of memories after som many years. Great song. I don't understand Tagalog but I love this song.
A beautifull song which comforted me often when I was a student and lonesome. It brings back the joy, warmth and love I felt. I hadn't heard it anymore until my son found it on the internet.
omg.. my mom used to say this song was for me, how much trouble i used to get into just to piss her off!! now i have my own kids, she was right.. i miss home (philippines) n i wished my girls knew wat it was like ova der, family is everything!!
My parents love this song...my mom is Filipino....and she explained the lyrics...its one of my dad's favorite even though he doesn't really understand the words without my mom's help. But its really beautiful.
Hello folks, once upon a time i've hear this song or better seen it in an TVshow in the later '70th. It was performed by agroup of phillipinos and their was a video shown in the background... however this melody and voices of the singers stayed in my mind forever and then in 1981 I take this to an own song in german called: my world ( Meine Welt ) RHK1981 today I found this video from you!
im searching for german version kasi may nag request sa grupo namin nakakantahin namin ang ANAK sa birthday ng nanay nyang mag 102 years old , request ng anak nya, they are german family ANAK song from freddie Aguiar is really popular im so proud to sing this song.

This is a classic song that will withstand the test of time, popularity, and etc.
To those who defend Freddie Aguilar, go to google search and type FREDDIE AGUILAR COMMENTS and you can read thousands of negative comments Freddie Aguilar got. I cant even believe that such a freakin load of bullshit would come out of the mouth of one of my formerly respected musicians. Now, the question is: would Charice Pempengco ever get the fame shes enjoying right now if she started out by singing Dahil Sa Iyo on Oprah?
Bwa-ha-ha-ha! U r fucked asshole!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Sabi mo matandand freddie aguilar: MAS BIBILIB KA KE CHARICE KUNG KAKANTA SYA NG TAGALOG SONGS, EH ANO KUNG HINDI KA BUMILIB???? SINO KA BA EH BASURA KA LANG NAMAN AH!!! tingnan mo nga yang itsura mo maganda pa nga ang basurahan kesa sayo eh!!! YOU ARE ONLY A PIECE OF SHIT!!!
FREDDIE AGUILAR IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF CRAB MENTALITY. Pulling down other fiipino artists for his own gain. Besides, his songs suck!!! watch?v=BYCy2p_pdsE
I havent heard this song for along time but everytime I heard it, since I was little I am always reflecting about myself and appreciate more about my parents effort in loving and guiding me. I like songs of Freddie Aguilar. All of his songs are really inspiring ang tickling our conscience to examine ourselves if we are going into right path.
"Anak" is my husband's favorite song, he love this song and cries averytime he hear this... there's a story behind this song, he met a Finish guy in a ship in Philippines, and the finish guys says, he visited Philippines not because of it's beauty but because of this song... he heard it in a radio station in Finland. Thanks for uploading this.
Thanks for commenting guys. I'm glad everyone who has listened to this song agrees that it's one to be remembered, listened to time and time again, and passed down to future generations.
It's indeed a timeless classic filled with a powerful message and as a Filipino this song makes me proud to be one.
@hehber7. I use this song as ring signal in my cellphone.. I'm a Swedish Aguilar fan and I saw and heard him for the first time in Manila -85. A historic time in Philippine history, where Mr Aguilar was a symbol for the peoples revulotion one year later. Since then I have been to his conserts six times. Both in the Philippines and in Europe. I have talked to Mr Aguilar and the fact is that he is a trouth Pilipino; soft, friendly and sensitive. A symbol of your country!
@hehber7 what makes you proud about this song eh! tungkol ito sa isang anak na naging addict...nagsisi man sya sa bandang huli pero at the end of the day isa pa rin syang addict...
I am a western dude , heard this one when i was a young boy then sailed with philipino crews all over the world and used to listen alot to Freddie......world star in my opinion
i m a south east asian also, and i love this song very much and i know the overall meaning of lyrics. But, can anyone tell me where i can find the original meaning. i meant lyrics in english but stil with its poetic words(original cultural terms). if someone could help out, i would thank greatly.
Oh crap tears just dripped out from my eyes while staring blankly at monitor and listening to this song. I havent heard this song since i was maybe 6 or 7 years old and im 21 now.
I still love the Tagalog version of this song. The English version is different and there are some text missing. "At sa umaga namay kalong ka ng iyong amang tuwang-tuwa sayo." and "at ang una mong nilapitan ang iyong inang lumuluha...' these are missing in English version and still more. But I still gave credit for the English.
I love all the English songs this guy has sung. I had a tape (45 min) of 1 English album, and I still remember the tunes and voice of Freddie Aguilar. Unfortunately, I have lost that album and only has the "CHILD" in MP3 form. Can anybody tell me where can I get the English versions of Freddie Aguilar's works?
GOD ! What a great song !!! Congratulations Anak , Phillipines : I LOVE YOU

I don't care about Freddie and his comments against charice and arnel. Para sa akin " Anak" is a song of all generation.

All of his songs are really inspiring ang tickling our conscience to examine ourselves if we are going into right path.

hi Hehber 7!
