This guy has to be one of the most fun soloists to play with. Anyone going to Midwest this year HAS to hear his original piece he and Sam have composed.
this guys is playing with one of the bands from my High School as a guest soloist... went to see the preview concert. might i say youtube does this guy no justice. he is AMAZING LIVE!!
o yea, Pat Sheridan is a freaking beast. I saw him while I was in high school when he came to my school. absolute beast! definitely a stud tuba player.
are you kidding me? Just because Maynard played some high notes doesn't make him the best. You really don't know much about brass or trumpet if you think that Maynard is even in the top 5 trumpet players...much less brass players.
Bud Herseth said that he considered Maynard the best brass player this century. Now, considering that's coming from the greatest orchestral trumpet player ever it might not be so outrageous to consider Maynard the best brass player ever. I personally don't believe he's the greatest brass player ever but definitely deserves a spot in top 5 trumpet players ever. Bud takes the top spot in my book.
Jeez dude give the man a little credit, he is dead you know, its not like you have to prove something much less express how little you think of him as a musician and entertainer
I don't think you read my reply...I'm not saying that Maynard wasn't an extraordinary trumpet player...I'm just saying he's not..or wasn't top 5. There are 100's of phenomenal trumpet players and I'd say he's up there in the top 25 or so....but not top 5
Pat did a concert with my band this past Christmas and he played Gabriel's Oboe (and a number of other pieces), it was the musical sensitive and musical playing I've ever heard in my life. But, he plays stuff so fast not just because he can, but because he has to to show the average, uninformed person what the tuba really can do - and quite obviously, it can do absolutely everything!
the song is not called heavy metal... at least the first and the last parts are not... this is Blackbird as arranged my a not to be named Swedish guy, and of course we all know what the middle part is.
I'm not knocking Pat Sheridan, obviously he's a great player... I just don't understand why he has to play everything as fast as he can..
This was just the encore after a full recital of "legit" music. People asked for an encore of this kind of stuff because that's what he's known for, but he does a great job on classical pieces as well.
Yeah, I kinda figured this was on encore for a full recital. I have many recordings of Pat Sheridan doing a wide range of musical styles. I just think that he plays things too fast. Almost every recording I have of him is significantly faster than any other recording of any piece. Just because he can play things faster than everyone else, doesn't mean he always should.
i saw him 3 days ago...he's not dead
