guys, if you want to complete the theives guild and still want unbreakble lockpick then just level it to 100 and unlock the perk called "unbreakable", means lockpicks never break! When youve mastered lockpick with the skeleton key just finish the quest and then carry on regular lockpick, hope this helps.

Letting the pick break is considerably slower, albeit more simple than just finding multiple Master locks (like in the Companions building) and just successfully picking them, waiting two days, and picking them again. A successful pick makes it go up so much faster. :p

ATTENTION SKYRIM PLAYERS!!! If you only want max lockpick skill in order to open some chests!? Just bring a human companion, you can order/instruct them to unlock any chest or door for you!!! (better than avoiding completing the Thieves Guild Quest of returning the Unbreakable pick/Skeleton Key!!! (which does not level up your lockpick skill when you use it) Therefore, if you want a good way to increase your lockpick skill: wait till nightfall in a big town> pick every locked door> wait> repeat.

ProTip: The short "freeze" every time you wait is the game Auto-saving, to get rid of that completely, just go to settings -> Gameplay and uncheck "Save on Wait."

Sooooooooo helpful to turn that off if you don't mind not auto-saving every time you wait.

Okay, first of all, when I said you just need to wait two days, I was sort of wrong in two ways:

1) You only need to wait 46-47 hours, but you'll usually want to wait another hour after that so everyone is in place.

2) It's infinitely faster than saving/reloading if you use the Dashboard Button trick for Xbox 360. Just go to the Wait menu, go to 24 hours, press A, then immediately hit the Center Button BEFORE it starts to count down. It'll go by at, like, 3 hours per second.

Instead of waiting for that long you can just buy the lockpicks, save the game AFTER you buy them all. Kill the merchant. then load your game that you just saved after you bought the lockpicks but BEFORE you kill the merchant. Have fun. (Or get skeleton key when you kill Mercer Frey from the Thieve's guild quest)

This still works as of now, also to avoid the stopping in the thieves guild master lock, crouch so u are hidden. Since that one guy is in the room, it stops trying to pick it after breaking it.

@FDelp994 Update to my last comment: An easily accessible master lock is "Saddi's Used Wares" in Windhelm. When it's closed, it is locked with a master lock.

another tip for this would be if you have done a lot of the thieves guild quest you get an item known as the "Skeleton Key". It's a lockpick that never breaks. So you could replace your buying lockpicks.

Just get the skeleton key keep it then keep lockpicking things it takes longer but its free, for those who dont know the skeleton key is an unbreakable lockpick you get from mercer fray at the end of theives guild quest Blindsighted

@antcharles100 48 hours in-game time, not in real life. Heh. You also don't really have to wait 48 hours in-game all the time. I usually go 23 Hours then 24 Hours, and I wait for another hour if people aren't all there (specifically in the Hall of Countenance in the CoW). Also, I'm not sure if it's this video that I learned it from, but I'll say it anyway: As soon as you press A to wait on the Xbox 360, you can press the Dashboard button to speed up the waiting. I hope this helps.

@Zokuzojin actually, unless it is an immortal character, you can save it, kill the merch, reload and their inventory will refresh. quick easy and painless. really good with belethor... it is so much fun to drill him in the head with an arrow at point blanck over and over and over........

@ParryOtter5 You either find the armor, accept that you can no longer play the Thieves' Guild storyline and continue doing something else, or you restart the game from scratch (Thieves' Guild's stuff isn't really worth it in my opinion. The only good thing you get from the quest line is a few thousand gold from the Eyes (and other odd trinkets sold to that one guy) and the Skeleton Key, which you lose when you finish the quest anyway.) Brotherhood Armor is way better, but Light Armor blows IMO.

@0verdead The Thieves Guild is in Riften. You have to go to the marketplace and a man named Brynjof will approach you asking you about how you've never made honest coin. He will ask you to steal a ring and place it in another mans bag while he's making a distraction. Even if you fail, he will reveal the location of the Thieves Guild for you.

itsWAZZA1 Yes, you dobget the skeleton key during the quest and I thought about that after the fact, but to finish the thieves guild you have to give up the key. I also didn't want to make a guide that viewers had to play a couple hours just to level a skill, especially one this slow.

the "glitch" with waiting ur referring to is due to the autosave feature...Turn off autosave on wait and ur set.

kill him (or wait till he leaves and you can put a pice a tape on your stick (lol i saidstick :P) and that's way faster
