i have one but its all aluminum still has the narrow arms but there aluminum and mip hardend steel cvds also it has one ove the very few hard core racing aluminum chassis my vx12 only worked for about 5 months after i bought it then it caught fire and ruined my body mine was silver when i bought it
@motomex79 wasnt too bad i suppose. if you get a used 3906, make sure its got upgraded driveshafts and an upgraded transmission - theyre weaker parts of the truck
you can pick up a used 3905 new style e-maxx for under $200 fully rtr these days :)
@thewaltman2009 check the arms. theres a narrow and a wide version. the narrow version is rare, and the wide version is not. the esc is also rare as it was recalled. you dont find them boxed and sealed, especially this narrowa arm version. but you would have known that by reading the description.
@fathead431 wow, it is the narrow version, it has a black and blue esc, is that the vx-12? i just tested it and it will only go into forward, it will not go into reverse
DUDE thats just like mine but mine has the novak esc. and they are tough as nails great basher trucks but not so great racers when they have stock A-ARMS with them being so thin but all around a great basher and very fun trucks.
@mudder300 awesome trucks. a true piece of history. the ones with the vx-12 are hard to find, cus they all blew up, and the ones that dindt were recalled.
@fathead431 ya you cant kill them. ive rplaced the a arms on mine with blue rpm arms and i have put new diffs, motors, and a new tranny in it and it flies when im able to get a video of it ill let you know.
how do you keep your rims from spinning in the tires cause i have trouble with that problem
@mudder300 you should read the manual. you have to glue he tire to the rims when you buy the. there specal glue for that. traxas leave th stock ones unglued, or used to, so that people could easily add their own tires when they bought the truck if they didnt like the stock ones.
@ChilledVids put kershaw designs 700ho's in it they give you more power and if you ask jetlag2222 he will tell you that he had a pear of them in his e-maxx and they lasted over 2 YEARS
i have the updated version u should use a tmaxx steering servo because the servo will die in ten runs trust me had to replace last night i also sugest the new traxxas tie rods and steal drive shaft and 4200 dtx batteries mine is a whieelie beast
I hate to tell ,but you might be disappointed. I have had both old and new. Ran both stock and all out brushless with Novak ( I don't like mamba not enough low end control). I have to say the new one handles better. I would not go brushless with the old one. First diffs go, then tranny.. I had my old emaxx for about 7 years, could also be wear and tear. I have had the new one for about 1 year, (never broke yet).
@quickguesswho didnt buy it to go brushless. keeping it stock as a vintage / retro truck.
ive had three new e-maxxes. they do handle better because theyre wider. i never said they handles worse. what you cant argue with me about is that the old one is faster out of the box.
surprised you havent broken your maxx. you must be bashing like a n00b, cus its one of the most pathetic vehicles traxxas makes at the moment.
@fathead431 Im saying the new one handle's better than 3906. I have had them both. ( 3906 for over 7 years). The new one is wider ,longer ,and better center of gravity. It handles turns better ,it can scale up rock faces better ,and it is flat out stronger. True though the 3906 was faster because of two-speed, but the plastic gears will need to be replaced eventually. Next on bashing
@fathead431 3906 I broke everything, because it could not handle turns ,among other things. The new one is flat awesome. Down at White House Hobbies in TN, I would own the New E- Revo or Revo 3.3... If Tuned properly, the new emaxx is a force to be reckoned with... The Revo would get too much traction and enter turns too fast and flip. The emaxx would slide like an oversized slash 4x4. p.s. I don't bash I race...
@quickguesswho the transmissions on the early 3906's arent great. i have some steel gears for when it breaks ready to install.
i didnt buy this to go extreme. just a a bit of classic fun.
im a big traxxas fan, but the new e-maxx is not traxxas's best car. the revo series is much tougher. you can make an e-maxx touch, but most the car wouldnt be traxxas. it would be integy, gpm, flm and rpm.
get a cheap savage off ebay and go bash it. i was surprised how tough savages are out of the box.
when i got mine, i wondered" WTH?? i didnt order something THIS BIG did i? but MAN do i like it! have had it for about 5 yrs now, and still drive it regularly. i got a blue body(fav color) upgraded with RPM arms INTEGY bulks, and new 56 ford body(painted yellow)
ya!!! im glad somone ppreceats this car along with me i got ming 4 yrs ago with rarow arms xv12 yes the vx12 and it had all the old black parts thhis thing was so cool my first hobby grade rc truck i had ben doing boats for much longer but anyway the vx 12 cougt on fire :/ so i upgraded with the evx2 wp got all wide arms and steel shafts wp servos and receiver grey parts and soon i may get 700 ho and after 4 yrs of hard bashing it still runs beter than ever ur gona have a great time with this
@philin2222 theyre dangerous these esc's! but theyre damn powerful. nobody seems to have an e-maxx like mine. they either have a wide version with the evx esc, or a full aluminum / rpm one with a brushless system and modified trans :(
@95666 traxxas hid the flop very well. do a search for the esc and theres only 2-3 results that are actually about the esc, and one is the recall information. im surprised, this thing is much faster than a stock 3905 e-maxx, and its way way more fun!
@fathead431 why is it faster? cant u put two 7 cell nimhs in a stock 3905? and only two 6 cells in this? or are u just gonna use 2s's and keep an eye on the voltage?
@95666 compared to my 3905 which ive now sold, this is faster on the same batteries. its much lighter, and the 2-speed gives it great acelleration. on the 2s's (which barely fit) the esc gets insanely hot. the motors get really hot, so i have to take a 3 minute break in the middle of the run. the car held up alot better than i expected, and im really impressed. this car is going to stay with me for life, with its short arms and dodgy ESC. if the esc fails, ill put a novak evx in it.
@fathead431 oh, i forgot the 3905 was 1 speed, yeah i remember with my EVX 3906 it was pretty cool with the 2 speed, i liked how u could shift from the tx and it didnt just shift itself. dhonda200 on YT owns mine now, he has vids of it.
@95666 just saw a couple of his vids. his/your e-maxx isnt as fast for some reason. mine just flies! i had it flippin itself over constantly! vid will be up in 45mins or so
@fathead431 oh cool, some of his vids was two 6 cell nimhs, and some are with two 2s's, but anyway ill be watching for the vid! or send it to me if u want.
@95666 oh and, go check the traxxas website. look at the front/rear track specs of the 3906 on the website and compare it to 1.22 in the video. thats what makes this car so rare, along with the esc.

@midnightshadevsr got it on eBay after finding it in a forum! i cant find anyone else who has an e-maxx with the VX-12 esc, and ive never seen an e-maxx with one in it. ive fallen in love with this thing, it really flies! the shorter arms are a bit of a pain on the road, but make it real manoevreable offroad! im finishing off the running video now, so ull see it in around 1- 1/2 hours.
@fathead431 cool, although they didnt make sway bars at that time. you should try them with the sway bars. i bett they will produce a huge difference. just sharing lol
