The lyrics from 2 of the best voices spoke of a time when strangers could be lovers again. How soon they become enemies these days. Missing: God's direction in the union.
Love it, Love it, Love it, Love it, ...Love it, Love it, These two great singers of the 1950s are the epitome of perfection in song. How wonderful to hear this once more. I am sure it will last for another few decades, maybe forever. Thanks for upping it.

Hey, I’m a young artist, & I would really appreciate it if everyone would check out my cover of Michael Bublé’s “You’re Nobody till Somebody Loves You.” Although I’m knowledgeable that Michael Bublé was not the first to record the song, my version was inspired by his rendition, nonetheless. I promise you that you will not regret giving my version of the song a listen, & it will truly knock you off of your feet! So please listen & enjoy! Thanks!
I used to listen the their duet records in my mom's record cabinet all the time...her 78s! What a beautiful recoding this one is. Going to get it from itunes now. Thanks so much for posting!

I remember once when I was about 15 yrs old I went to a radio show in New York City and in the elevator there was Billy Eckstine, He had the greenist eyes I had ever seen . He was so handsome and pollte and he gave me hs autograph. Was I lucky.
Regarding the special it took place at the Apollo but for some reason I keep remembering Motown was involved somehow. Eckstine recorded for Motown in his later years, and did a "September of My Years" album titled "The Time of My Life" and recorded a song titled "My Way" which wasn't THAT "My Way." Sassy kept working and traveling and enjoying life to the end. She was never a complicated person or diva.
This song makes a beautiful Waltz. I first heard it on a Ballroom Dancing DVD when Karen and Marcus Hilton gave a Waltz demonstration. I have been looking for it ever since and now I have found it!
Such an exquisite moment in recording history! They sang it in their elder years on a Motown anniversary special and were just as compelling. They were lifelong friends; he was her discoverer and her mentor. He was very proud of her and the way she conducted her life. No scandals. Very close to her mom and dad and her daughter Paris.
@waynebrasler Are u sure it was the Motown anniversary special or Apollo? for i saw them on the Apollo 50th anniversary special in 1985 i have a video clip of it
my mum used to sing tghis to me when I was little with the windows open as she did stuff in the kitchen with the windows open wide on a hot summer's day and the neighbours always usedf to say they stood still when she sung as you copuld hear it so far away
I'm sixty next year and I can still remember looking up at her and marvelling as she sang this, Slow Boat to China, Que Sera, Sailor (stop your roaming) and other classics
This is one of my all time favourite recordings and it always brings tears to my eyes when listening to it. It's so beautiful and the memories of growing up in the 1950's and listening to music like this on the radio...fantastic! Sarah Vaughan is one of my favourite singers, and Billy Eckstine was the perfect partner for this song. thanks for posting it.
Pure magic...you can't beat this...memories flooding back of the glories of radio and the magical world that wonderful music creates...painting glorious images in the imagination.
06/17/10 WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SONG TO TELL THE STORY OF TWO SOULS WHO DID NOT INITIALLY CONNECT BUT WHO WISH TO DO SO. BEAUTIFUL LYRICS, BEAUTIFUL INTERPRETATION. GOD REST YOUR BEAUTIFUL SOULS. roselli
This fantastic song reminds me of growing up in Manchester in the fifties/sixties. My mother use to sing along with in at weekends; forces favourites, radio 2..I think.
This is about as good as it gets.....surely would welcome something this beautiful to come along again. Lovely song that is so perfectly performed. Thanks for posting!
My dear mum and dad, when i hear this it reminds me of you both so much, you used to play this so often, how the years fly by.....love you both so much and even though i don't see you both as much since i moved away, i miss and think about you every day......bittersweet memories that make the heart ache.
You are right...Mr. B. sounds no more like Brook Benton than Barry white sounds like Issac Hayes. They are all baritones and that's the long and the short of it!!
This was the first record I ever bought for my future wife. We've now been happily married for 46 yrs. This song still makes my hair stand on end. Wonderful stuff from "Sassy" and the immaculate Billy Eckstine. What class, what style, what handsome looks this guy had. My role model.
Excellent recordings. Sets a fabulous mood, very nice, good listening. It's odd that I now find Mr. B was a much bigger influence on my musical tastes than I had previously thought.
If you listen to Brooke singing Rockin' Good Way with Dinah Washington (a great hit), you'll find he doesn't sound much like Billy at all. They're both baritones is all.
@Corrie121 Same as I. My late wife and I, use to dance to this 1962, when we got married. Brings back lots of memories. She passed away Jan 29th 2011.
I was about 13 when I first heard this amazing number and got hooked. Now I have it in my favs...Perfection! Thank you SO much for posting it on YT!!!!
That's about when it was first released! I think I was 13, too! I have NEVER forgotten this song. More than 50 years and it is unforgettable. I remember every word from its realease in the '50s! What an impact!
Many thanks for this timeless classic. It's great to see so many appreciative comments about the song and the incredible artistry involved. Unfortunately, the 'Golden Era' has passed but thank god we still have this kind of evidence..... Superb!
If there is a heaven, the music is arranged and sung by Mr Eckstine and accompanied by Ms Vaughan. I discovered Mr Eckstine quite late...but I am glad I did. Why does anyone bother with the likes of Michael Booby when you can listen to the likes of this ?
The definitive and greatest version of this wonderful 50s song. These two superb artistes have never been excelled for this particular love song. Five Stars, plus 1.
I came across my old 45 of this that I still have. It's in such crummy shape, over the years and bad phonograph playings. It was great to hear a decent copy of this one again. What a great duet they made.
Isn't memory a funny thing? This fabulous song reminds me of radio programme called 'two way family favourites - sunday lunch - I can almost smell the cabbage'!!
*smile* lol...I guess I see both sides of the coin. It seems the lyrics are speaking of "lovers" who are strangers "now", but thinking things can "change" ummmmm. They sound like the "miss" each other and are still in love. Reminicing of the things they did as friends and lovers and wishing it would come true again. I'd say "renew the vows"....romantic.
Glad I stumbled upon this "timeless" song. Two wonderfully talented artist both had their own careers. To hear them do a duet is just "loving". Nice wedding song for people.
Sarah Vaughan passed away in 1990 and Billy Eckstine followed her in 1993. I regret your flippant reply to shilohdream. I did not realize there were so few songs of Eckstine and indeed Sarah's as well available on this site...and I have so many to share. That means I have work to do. I have more of their great duets, and their solo work. What legacies they left behind!
Didn't Billy do a solo recording of "Passing Strangers," as well? I do remember Benny Hill's Eckstine impression on one of his 1973 specials, where his "rendition" of "Passing Strangers" was well nigh unrecognizable I just found out what it was he was performing, which led me to here.
I double-checked - the AllMusic site claimed this to be an Eckstine solo on one of his box-sets, but the review mentioned that there were five Eckstine/Vaughan duets in the set, "Passing Strangers" included.
My father loved this song - whenever i hear it i think of him. He has been dead many years, but just listening to this nostalgic song makes me cry as i think of him and how much i loved him!!
The song is ended - but the melody lingers on (in the words of Nat King Cole)
Someone emailed me and said I made a flippant reply to you about Sara Vaughn and Billy Eckstine. I don't recall making any comment to you about them and if I did it wasn't meant to be flippant.
I am enjoying the wonderful sounds of Sarah Vaughn and Billie Eckstine. Although, these are songs of another generation, I am thankful that this generation can experience the great talents of the past. Thanks for posting.
This was the first record I ever bought for my wife. We've now been happily married for 45years in March 2008.
Billy Eckstine has been my idol singer and role model since I was a teenager - a little unusual when you consider that I'm a white, Welsh guy from a village which didn't see a black man until the late 1950s.
(That's 'How are you' in Welsh). Tom Jones is from Pontypridd in South WQales. I know it well. The most exciting thing about Pontypridd are the traffic lights. There ain't anything else. Now you know why Tom left for the USA.
The phrasing, harmony and delicacy of this duet certainly makes it one of my all time favorites. I was fortunate to have known this as a kid. Lozzie51, you can find this on a double CD called " Billy Eckstine Everything I have is yours: The best of the MGM years". If you check Amazon for Billy Eckstine, it's the first listing. If you do not want to buy the entire CD you can buy just this song.
Many years ago I used to work on the old Queen Elizabeth. We were in NY on turnround every 5/6 days. MY first visit was always the Paramount Theatre on Broadway and Times Square. The Paramount always had two films ans A and a B, with a 30/45 min variety show betwen the films. For a dollar and forty cents, one could be transported to anywhere in your dreams. I was fortunate to see Sarah and Billy singing a duet 'Prisoner of Love'. I shall always remember the magic of the moment.
notice how the voices are up front, not like todays music where producers sometimes have to hide the vocalists shortcomings behind a cacophony of sound this isnt close to perfection it IS perfection!!
I'm not knocking todays singers, there are some fantastic singers, but if you are you are 16 and think Pete Docherty is the only thing thats ever sung a song... just pause and listen :)
My mother had this record on 45rpm when I was small and she played it countless times. It's amazing to hear it again after all these years. Thank you for posting this. :)
It doesn't get any better than this! Sweet, effortless vocals - HEAVEN!!!

He may have, as I cannot say for certain, but it wasn't released as a single.

This stands alone as a poem or a melody. Add Billy and Sarah and you have a popular ballad of purest quality.

Great stuf from Billy and Sarah.

As a black american who loves Tom Jones I think thats cool. Peace!

Shw mae, Deea.
(That's 'How are you' in Welsh). Tom Jones is from Pontypridd in South WQales. I know it well. The most exciting thing about Pontypridd are the traffic lights. There ain't anything else. Now you know why Tom left for the USA.
Best of British luck to you and yours.

I too remember that, and the Capitol theatre as well. Great memories.

notice how the voices are up front, not like todays music where producers sometimes have to hide the vocalists shortcomings behind a cacophony of sound this isnt close to perfection it IS perfection!!

I'm not knocking todays singers, there are some fantastic singers, but if you are you are 16 and think Pete Docherty is the only thing thats ever sung a song... just pause and listen :)
