oh one more thing, the problom with useing steam is that you have to first build up pressure, and the efficiency drops off fast if you dont have a full head of steam, so on a really cloady day it just may not work, where as a stirling just needs a temperature differential to work, depending of the type used it could work even on the most overcast day (not as well of course but will still work)
nice idea great job. but your facts are off, yes yours does look like it would be the cheapest to build, using steam turbines, but at that size or even 4 times larger the turbine will be less efficient then a free piston stirling. but the stirling is harder to build and cost more, for a steam turbine to beat a stirling tho it has to be to large for home use, but as for being able to build your own, I would go for this, but if i had the money would go for a stirling
don't know what kind of steam engine your using, probably a normal one I'd assume, you might want to try making a tesla turbine, very simple tomake and much more efficient than a regular steam engine.
@TheJunkyardgenius your right it is simple to make and can be around 60%-70% efficient if made right, how ever pretty much every steam engine used to make electricty is not a piston engine (around 4%-8% efficiency) but a steam turbine engine thats are from small simple one or two rotor turbines 20% to larger multi stage systems of 90% , but i bet for small versions the tesla turbine is the way to go

5 months later...... Needs a perfect tracker to be useful, but I still like brains working out new ideas.
