  • Luv Curly & all of the Stooges !

  • Their brand of humor was wonderful- We will never see the likes of these guys, W C Fields, The Marx Bros. ...etc

  • I've read about the SECOND Curly cameo - deleted from MALICE IN THE PALACE. Any word on that one! I'd pay some big bux for a DVD on that.

  • Didn't the actor who played Curly have a stroke, and that's why he stopped doing the part?

  • This is an awesome 32 second video ... and a true rarity by any standard! There was only one Curly within the 3 Stooges, and Joe Besser and DeRosa could not imitate him or even come close to supplanting the image of the original Curly. RIP to all of 'em.

  • @Aldantonio18 For the record --- It was Joe Besser and Joe DeRita...........not DeRosa 8P

  • Poor Jerome/Curly. The scene in the "Three Stooges" made-for-TV biopic, where Moe gives him the letter legally "firing" him from the group, is absolutely heartbreaking.

I also have a lot of respect for Shemp for coming back to the act after Curly's stroke. Shemp strongly disliked being part of the Stooges but did it so Moe and Larry could keep working, even after they learned Curly wouldn't be able to return.

  • CUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRLLLLLLLLYYYYYY. WE LOVE YOU CURLY. YOU'LL ALWAYS BE OUR NO.1 COMEDIAN. THUMBS UP IF YOU AGREE CURLY WILL ALWAYS BE LOVED!

  • I was just reading about this and was happy tonfind it on youtube. Curley had been retired

for awhile because of his strokes. He was never really able to work again but he did this

small part. It might be the only film with all 4 Stooges.

  • Fantastic!. "The Great Curly Howard. The man was a living legend. Curly easily stole the scene from all three of the guys. Curly had offers to star in movies by himself, but he didn't want to split the team up. Costello stole so much of his stick from Curly. Curly was The Man!"

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!! A TRUE CLASSIC THE THREE STOOGES

  • Thanks moe Larry curly the original three your legacy will live on official fan

  • Gracias 3 chiflados por alegrar mis dias de infancia.Fueron, son y seran los mejores!!

  • they were able to continue wen curly wasnt able to act anymore but if what happened to curley had happened to moe, i dont think the 3 stooges would have been done for good.

  • R.I.P Jerome"Curly"Howard(Oct.22,1903-Jan.18,1952).Your probably entertaining with Larry and your brothers Moe and Shemp in Heaven.Shalom.

  • @DorothyZbornak1922 just keep away from Joe Besser LOL!!

  • WHAT NIMWIT WOULD DISLIKE THIS? I MEAN REALLY.. COME ON..

  • Cuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrlllyyyy!!!!! We love you Curly!!!

  • wasnt there a fifth stooge named joe

  • @mrzatchbell132 I think his name was Joe Besser. He was Terrible.

  • Curly was the best of all the stooges, he just made me laugh with everything he did and said!!!!

  • @1215runner All of the Stooges were great in thier own way (except for Joe). I particularly liked how Shemp coming back to the Trio allowed a little more time for Larry, but I have to agree Curly was funny!

  • Thanks LESSOLITAIRE - I appreciate that!

    Happy Nyuk Year, Knucklehead!

  • Thanks boss for sharing this. I am along-time fan and was totally unaware of this epic slice of Stooge history. Jogman, you are what makes YouTube GREAT! HAPPY NEW YEAR reverbnation(dot)com/lessolitaire

  • Awesome, I had no idea of that story.

  • btw horowitz in hebrew is 'ben hur'

these guys were big influences in my life, i am not sure if that is good or not, but i love them so!

  • it is the one of the scene of this episodes, and most of the scenes in the same episode were deleted because of his unremembered dialogues due to the stroke of his brain, and he was permanently got retired after this episode "Hold That Lion" . In his place shemp exist were all 4 got appeared in above video. The person sitting is curly though not actually look but he is, without bald, thin body, Inactive. And this is the last, and last scene of curly in his life.

  • Shemp was the original third stooge but gave the role to his brother to pursue a solo career. If you look at the MGM stooge short "From Soup To Nuts" shot in 1930--the very first Stooge short--Shemp is the 3rd stooge.

  • When I was a kid I noticed how well Shemp fit in and how poorly Joe and Curly Joe did. I didn't know until I was grown that Shemp was a brother and one of the originals from before they started making movies. Those four were great. Larry made over 40 films in his career, but was never in a film without Moe.

  • I prefered Shemp to Curly but of course Curly was great too

  • This wasn't curly's last scene he was in some deleted part of the 3 stooges after he handed his part to shemp.

  • @DanNZ4 "Deleted" is the key word in your remark, lol.

  • @jogman

    Hahaha.

  • @jogman in a way yes

  • @jogman

It wasn't even deleted. He was going to play a part in Malice in the Palace, but suffered another stroke prior to filming. There's a stock card floating around that shows a very skinny Curly.

  • @DanNZ4 Curly "handed" his part to Shemp? - Kinda think there was no choice! The decision was made by Moe to replace Curly with Shemp. BTW, where did you get the PROOF of this supposedly deleted scene with Curly? Why I ougahtta....

  • @greenwich1754 In a way Shemp "handed" the third stoog slot to Curly and when Curly had his stroke Shemp came back to help Larry and Moe on the condition that he would be there until such time as Curly were well enough to work again. Unfortunatly Curly passed away followed soon after by Shemp.

  • @greenwich1754 Curly took that part because shemp refuse to work with Ted healy. That's how Curly took over.

  • @DanNZ4 you might be thinking of recycled footage from old skits, Columbia did that a lot with the newer films as they began to have budget problems.

  • at last shemp and curly together!!!!!.....I had never seen together before ...

  • This is like the opposite of the Syd Barrett Wish You Were Here story.

  • Several of the ideas of the film were considered. However, Moe fell ill due to lung cancer and died in May 4, 1975, making it inconceivable to the continuation of the group without the Howard.During the entire career of the Three Eating Wimps, Moe was the heart and soul of the troupe, acting both as its main creative force and as his manager

  • Larry Fine suffered another stroke in December 1974. In the following month, he suffered a more serious and slipped into a coma. He died in January 24, 1975, with 72 years of age. Devastated by the death of his friend, Moe, however, decided that the Three Eating Wimps would continue. After the death of Larry 4 month after moe came dies problem in the lung

  • In 1959, Joe left the Three Eating Wimps and had a successful career in television. In March 1, 1988, Joe died during sleep, in his home, to the north of Hollywood. Joe had a myocardial infarction. Fourteen months later, his wife Erna died in July 1, 1989. ] Is buried in Forest Lawn Memorial

  • There is no place for curly again works Shemp Howard In November 22, 1955, Shemp went out with his friends and was at the Hollywood Legion Stadium see a fight boxing. After the fight, Shemp and his friend Al Winston took a taxi to go back home. Shemp bowed himself on the seat of the taxi and lit a cigar. Suddenly fell on Winston. Shemp had a heart attack and died at 60 of age in place him entro Joe Besser

  • Three goofy began in 1922 until 1970 more even then he appeared on tv was Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Shemp Howard he had let the pra do soil ai entro Curly Howard died in January 18, 1952. He was only 48 years of age

  • He sounded well in this

  • He looked great with a full head of hair. No wonder they had him shave his head to make him funnier. It must have been such a thrill for him to be there. That was a great thing Jules White did for him. It's a shame Curly and Shemp had such short lives.

  • There will only be one Larry Moe and Curley!!!

  • curly; BU BU BU BU BU BU!!!:..

  • Geniuses!

  • Yes I noticed that he was thinner, a sad day for comedy. I miss the Howard brothers.

  • It was great to see them all together but this particular film was one of the worst the Three Stooges ever made.

  • In a way, this video is sad. Curly died not too long after this.

  • Why larry said that not him? Coz it is him why there were looking for him?

  • But why did Larry said that's not him? Coz I think he is and why there were looking for him?

  • curly is legend funny guy

  • Never saw Curly without his buzz cut, he actually had nice hair!

  • Heavens to Murgatroid! THANKS for posting! Amazing to see Curly so slim & with a headful of hair. He was actually a good looking fellow. I've read he was quite the ladies man & loved to dance and drink. I am sure that contributed to his poor health. But he survived until 1952 & in that time was healthy enough to marry a 3rd time & father a daughter. But a series of strokes finally did him in, poor chap. :(

  • @JubalCalif Actually Curly was married 4 times...the first as a teenager, His mother had that one annulled.

  • @Piperteacher

Many thanks, O' Teacher of the Pipers, for that additional info about the late great Jerome "Curly" Howoritz (who of course later changed his last name to Howard when he went in to show biz). I appreciate your input...though sometimes I feel I'm the victim of coicumstance...nyuk nyuk nyuk! :-)

  • I HERD THAT SHEMP WAS ONCE VOTED UGLIEST MAN IN HOLLYWOOD. bUT HE WAS HUNG LIKE A SMALL PONY. gO SHEMP......MY FRIEND SAM IN PLEASANT VIEW IS A THREE STOOGES FAN TOO

  • @MrRiprip56 Hung like a horsie? Nawww... It's just that offstage he always had a cigar in his hand! I can see how people got the two confused!!! - 1b2s

  • besides the hair, does anyone else notice how much skinnier he is? this was right after his stroke.

poor Curly. RIP, all of the Stooges.

  • @kurt72 He was trying to get his helth better after the stroke like getting his weight down, but the damage was done and he didn't live that much longer after that. Only about 5 years.

  • @kurt72 It was after his second stroke. He made a comeback after his first stroke but the second one forced him into retirement. He appeared in two sketches after that--this being one of them. The other one has never been shown.

  • @kurt72 Curly was one of the funniest.

  • @kurt72 Yes,Curly suffered from uncontrollable severe high blood pressure and the doctors put him on a very strict diet including no more booze. Unfortunately nothing worked for Curly and he continued to have strokes after this scene. If Curly was alive today I am sure he would have lived longer due to the advanced meds for blood pressure.

  • I have seen this scene over and over when i was a little boy, never knew it was Curly until now!

  • We miss you Curley......woo woo woo woo woo woo.

  • Curly was the greatest comedic genius of the 20th century. He had no former acting experience or training.... he was a natural.

RIP Curly... the greatest of them all !

  • i thought Curly came after shemp

  • @popoff21 He did...But then Shemp came back after Curly became ill.

  • There was suppose to be a second attempt on this. Curly was original playing the cook in "Malice in the Palace", but he had to back out due to illness. Only a few shots exist from that one.

  • Shemp was supposed to be a temporary replacement after Curly's bad stroke in spring 1946. By this time (early 1947) Curly had recovered a little bit, so Moe arranged the cameo reportedly as a confidence builder for Curly. But Curly never got much better, so Shemp stayed. Curly took a turn for the worse in 1949, and died in early 1952. You know, he was really a funny guy.

  • @Lampshade51 VERY funny, and I've always taken it as an omen of sorts that I was born on his birthday, because he was always my favorite Stooge and I always wanted to be like him. I read some interesting things about Curly; when they signed up with Ted Healy, they were in the middle of a big earthquake one morning and Curly thought it was some trick Ted was pulling so he started yelling into his room to knock it off! LOL

  • it is curly after the strokes and slimmer...

    rob

  • curly with hair

    rob

  • That's pretty cool. Now I remember that scene. Don't remember if I thought it was Curly or not. Rest in peace stooges.

  • He looked so different WITH hair!

  • @aco52672 He used to sport thick hair and a mustache, and believe it or not, was a lady killer. One of his legs was also shorter than the other and disguised it with a funny walk.

  • @kewlbreez77 that's the real curly he lost a lot of weight from being sick and he died 11days after that episode

  • @MrBeezy400 :(

  • Are you sure that's Curly? It does not look like him, considering Curly was quite fat. This guy seems to be much thinner. Did you ever check the credits from the episode to see if he's listed as appearing?

  • He looks good w/hair

  • I don't recall ever seeing this last appearance of Curly. Nice cameo! The hairpiece is also new to me, since I have never seen Curly with hair! A classic cameo! R.I.P. to all the Stooges! I grew up with you and miss the laughs with my friends from that time in the early 60's. BTW: We KNEW not to poke each other's eyes out and other Stooge-like behavior. We didn't need sleazy lawyers to sue the TV stations running these old shorts.

  • @dplomin1954 They shaved his head and called him Curly as a joke. He had a full head of hair. Before the Stooges, he was called Jerry (short for Jerome).

  • @flatulatingmarmoset According to one documentary, he was nicknamed 'Babe'.

  • @dplomin1954 That is not a hairpiece, that is his real hair. They shaved it when it was doing the shorts because it made him more funny looking.

  • Curly actually attempted one more appearance after this cameo in "Malice In The Palace"....but his scenes were deleted.

  • curly understood that he couldn't do it anymore don't feel bad for him thats how life goes and curly had a short but very great life just think if one of us died tomorrow what would we be remembered by? atleast curly left us a lifetime of comedy

  • Moe, Larry, Curly, and Shemp were the best but Curly joe wasn't that funny to me, he probably was in some bits.

Here's to you Curly nyuk nyuk nyuk! R.I.P.

  • This was AFTER Curly had his stroke and couldn't perform with the boys anymore? They brought him back one more time before he died, I guess. This must have been very hard for him to do...he loved being a Stooge.

  • cant believe they are actually making a movie - IT WILL SUCK !! WHY WHY WHY

  • All four of these guys were the best at what they did.

I know Shemp usually gets put in Curly's shadow, but he was a funny guy with his own unique style, they all were.

  • Nice moment. Thanks for sharing. You know what is important. Take Care, Buddy.

  • that's fucken sad

  • Curly and Shemp Howard were probably the two funniest human beings who ever lived. If they had ever starred in a "4 stooges" short together it would have exceeded the maximum possible level of hilarity and the universe would blow up. It would be like going faster than the speed of light.

  • It wasn't the same after Curly was replaced by Shemp. Ironically, Shemp was originally in the group and was replaced by Curly.

  • im only 14 but my dad used t tape three stooges marathons in the 80s on vhs... i have been watching them since i was like 3... we now have the volumes on dvds... this video sends chills up my spine.. especially curlys woo-woo-woo-woo-woo

  • We love all of you four Stooges, classic and legends at their finest. We don't get comedy like this today. We love you all!

  • @cdh4099 comedy of today is too childish and bad acted. these black and white classic characters not only were the gods of comedy, but good actors

  • Moe, Shemp and Curly were brothers!?!?!?

  • @twostupidforks yep, they were brothers. I did known about shemp and moe for a while, but curly I found out a few days ago

  • @twostupidforks Yup........and Larry was a cousin, I do believe!

  • @technocrash09 I STAND CORRECTED! - After research, Larry was NOT related. He was introduced to Moe and Shemp in 1925.

  • Wow, you can sure see how much the Howard brothers resembled one another here!

  • Booty and the Beast (1947)

  • Actually, they started with a 4th stooge, but dropped him quickly, as he was a straight guy.

  • imagine the show with all 4 of them together, would have been great to see a few episodes like that.

  • @Bauer753

Well the 4 stooges wouldn't be the 3 stooges now won't it? hahaha

  • Did U see the THree Stooges Journals #6 with the original script for MALICE IN THE PALACE? It seems that Curly had a small part with dialogue as the Chef who...goes out to lunch! That's why Larry does the cooking for Moe and Shemp and the other characters in costume. What a terrible shame the scene (apparently) was cut.

Note that on the lobby card for the movie we see the four stooes - Cury in costume, holding something bigger than a carving knife!!

  • wow he looked thin!!!

  • ...Curly....WITH HAIR?! O_o

  • Thats not Curly!

  • @wetluv4

    Yes, it is.

  • Curly looks kind of handsome with a full head of hair. It's a shame he had to die so young. He was a riot in his prime.

  • @LuigiGodzillaGirl

Check out the book about Curly, with the foreward by Michael Jackson, with interesting pictures of Curly at home, c. 1946 to 1950.

  • This is the only time that Moe,Larry,Curly and Shemp appeared together on screen in a "Three Stooges"Film.

  • @TheStanbabe

Unless we count the "original" MALICE IN THE PALACE!

  • I wish some scientist could have had all the Three Stooges cryonically frozen and brought back to life one day and bring back their special brand of slpastick but decent comedy that is so desperately needed in Hollywood movies today. None of that raunchy, foul-mouthed comedy. If cryonics can't work than why not have all the Stooges cloned. Scientists believe that cloning the long extinct dinosaur will be a reality 50 years. So why not clone long deceased Hollywood actors.

  • @67nairb After all, the Three Stooges were probably the second dumbest life form to dinosaurs-lol. The Stooges were icons of comedy.

  • Curly may be dead, but you still have Zoidberg. YOU ALL STILL HAVE ZOIDBERG!

  • @topsy420 LMAO!!!

  • I also loved Shemp the BEST,iTS GREAT TO KNOW that alot of their gags were ad- lib too and iF they werent that good they would CLOBBER EACH OTHER LOL

  • Comment removed

  • Actually Curly made two cameo appearances but only that appearance was relased

  • He still gives a good comedy performance in this. He was a genius.

  • RIP CURLY MISSED AND LOVED FOREVER

  • You guys are missed- Class Act

  • he looks like curly

  • Rip you guys youll always be remembered :(

  • This is one of my favorite Shemp episodes!

  • Curlys last was episode was on "Malice in the Palace" he was a chef but his scene was cut!! RIP Moe Larry Curly and Shemp!!

  • his last was on "Malice in the Palace" but his scene was cut!! RIP Moe Larry Curly and Shemp!!

  • He was actually getting better by the time Hold that Lion was filmed.

  • @godzillahulk

It was a terrible shame he could not have found a quiet spot in many of those "Shemps". Still pictures show he could still cvontribute. The worst negligence was cutting his part in the 1948-filmed MALICE IN THE PALACE.

The Stooge Journal #6 has a script element for a Chef, obviously crafted for Curly. It's ben said the only remnant is a lobby card for the movie with Curly in costume. Has anyone actually searched the Colombia vaults?

  • @godzillahulk It wasn't until 1949 that Curly's health took a severe for the worse. You're probably aware that Curly, Moe and Shemp were brothers, that all three were Jewish and their last name were Horwitz.

  • @67nairb Yep, Harry Moses Horwitz(Moe), Samuel Horwitz(Shemp), & Jerome Horwitz(Curly). Larry Fine was also Jewish, his real name was "Louis Feinberg"

  • a true classic comedy team.....i remember seeing them in reruns in the 70's on saturday mornings on tv..........

  • The only time all the stooges were in one scene, most memorable moment!

  • Curly really thinned out, plus the hair.

  • RIP Curly

  • @worthmor NO LOVE FOR SHEMP, MOE, AND LARRY? THEY DIED TOO

  • Comment removed

  • @burra007: Yes, but this was Curly's final appearance. The others continued onward.
