  • Hooves look good. Separation you refer to is also overgrown wall so not a real issue.

You may get bruising riding on rocks without shoe's. A dry climate is best to harden hooves.

He's ok, you worry to much.

There is no real propblem here to panic about.

  • frog sluffs itself off when it's ready....it stays there coming off slowly till new frog builds under...dont trim frog or sole !

  • The huge hole sgould not be opened...He needs his heels backed up about an inch and it will happen naturally...Both your horses have the SAME paroblem. Trim the heels to tip of the frog shorter by atleast quarter inch. Do not touch the sole beyond the tip of the frog, but ppare it off from the tip of the frog back.

  • I think you're right on here... flat hoof is actually 'false sole' or what I think is grown-forward bar.

I think your biggest issue here is the bar that has fused to the sole and is forcing heel quarter flares...

Bringing a heel bevel back to the frog/heel juncture without bring the heel DOWN will allow the heels/frog to expand.

Basically, I think you're combating the dryness that is fusing frog/sole/bar etc. You will get more comfortable taking more material without being invasive.
