Any acousticians out there that can weigh in on what that "croaking" sound might be? It sounds like a bass guitar being manipulated one way or another through the nascent now ancient technology of that musical era.
@Django5198 No idea what scale that is, but it sounds almost like an Indian raga. Another thing the "trippy guitar solo" as you call it brings to mind is George Harrison's solo on Revolver's "Tax Man". Allusions aside this is still a completely original instrumental in my book.
@dirtymeansteve I hear you...no-one at the time could believe that George Harrison played that solo, since he wasn't considered to really have his chops together yet. That said, I double-checked officially released session/studio notes available from various sources and indeed, it was Mr. Harrison himself who played that killer solo on "Taxman". McCartney & Lennon did backing vocals, with the former on bass and the latter on tambourine.
i took several elements from this performance and used it in my act in kingston,, the glasses, the twangy bouncing beat in the middle there,,, this is the side of my music that isnt the velvet underground
@shyshyjon2092 Serious distortion and vibrato fingerwork. Notice the guitarists fingers are almost in a spasm bending the strings up and down unbelievably quickly.
Definitely, this concert was better then Woodstock! The concert was much moreorganized, cleaner, no weather problems AND it was the beginning of "the summer of love"!
Plus, the fact, the bands were all coming up, and some, like Jimi Hendrix, gained international fame because of Monterey! Oh yeah ... lets not forget, that, during this era, Peter Max's art, with the black light posters, was starting to pick up big time, also!
Call it Psychodelic...call it satanic....call it what you want but it was pure genius just the same....an era that was short lived eventually ending partly due to harder drugs....no more LSD.....Herion was in!!! Woodstock was great...but Monetery I thought was better.....Great video!!! Thank you brody76!!
look at that girl in the end. she's obviously on high

What's that crazy croaking sound? It's not on the album version, is it? Whatever it is, it takes it to another level.
