Of course, one might ask what happened the first time around....A bit confusing, but as I said, you're not supposed to think too much on it....

Everything about Covenant is sublime, aside from the Karen paradox. After so much great storytelling with Alice/Yuri juxtaposed to Kawashima/Kato, they had to toss a wrench in like Karen/Anne. She didn't exist when Yuri was born; this is time travel 101 and it's carelessly handled. I genuinely don't see what the writers were thinking or how it made sense to them. If any fan has a theory, by all means, tell me.
@JBarracudaL I think it's their way of making Karin a kind of muse if you will. She's a lover, a friend, and a mother. And she, like Alice, is an integral part of his life. She helps him live on despite the hardships and realize how precious preserving life is even when important ones pass on. Also Karin could be a kind of protector to his soul, she loved him so much that it became her destiny to always protect him, be with him, and 'keep his spirit alive' always.
@sabrinadickens at the end, when everyone goes to where they want to be, she wills herself to be with yuri, but the only way she could be close to him was to be sent to the past. Then she meets Yuri's dad. Then it shows the picture of yuri's family. At some point in the game, yuri talks about how his mother always looked at him sadly, and here he says that she was happy as long as she had him. Basically, Karin knew she got stuck in the time loop and became his mother. Make sense?

JRPG nowadays focus solely on graphics and battle system, and neglects story, characters, and dialogue. It is a shame that no JRPG on PS3/Xbox360 is even half as good as SHC.
During the ending when everyone says their goodbyes and whatnot and disappears, Karin gets sent to the past. I'm not sure if she somehow wills herself there, but she ends up in the past nonetheless. It's there that she meets up with Yuri's dad. You also then see the picture Karin is given, and it shows Yuri, his dad, and his mom, which happens to be Karin.
But with how Yuri feels about Alice, I doubt the two would ever be able to truly connect.....Course, since there is that one detail about the ending, I think it's a good thing they don't end up together... :P
However, Yuri and Karin are the same age and that means that when Karin is born in the timeline, there's two Karin's, thus creating a time paradox...
I still hope on some way for them to be reunited as the couple they should be. However, I don't see a new Shadow Hearts game coming after FTNW's fiasco.
This is so fucking sad. She had a hard time growing up, complained about how her life went, and she told Yuri as a boy that she'd be happy wherever she was as long as she was with him. I guess she still loved him deeply.
I had to be talked into playing this series, but it was well worth it (Except for From the New World...Stay away from that...Not much of a SH game if you ask me...)
If you want to really get the Shadow Hearts experience, play the PS1 game called Koudelka first. Then play Shadow Hearts, and then Shadow Hearts: Covenant, both for PS2.

oh , and have i mentioned once you finish the game this cut scene is the best part of the game cuz u put the story line in context
