  • I am a senior citizen 73.

    I remember Sam Cooke.

I also remember the movie "Tammy" I was young when the movie came out. I don't know if Tammy was the name of the movie or just the song in the movie. I remember the song as very beautiful. Sam Cooke was very unique. I loved his singing very much.

  • Calling this decent is like saying Babe Ruth was a decent hitter.

  • WHAT? I click, change is gonna come and why is tammy im hearing???

  • Sam was one of a kind, originally a gospel singer, his voice control was phenomenal, a real inspiration. I didn't know he did this, thanks for posting.

  • smoooooooth smoooooth Mr Cooke your voice is greatly missed!

  • what a great version

  • Wow, this is a beautiful song done by sam cooke. It equals Debbie Reynolds version.

  • My name is Tammy,(named after this song) sung by Debbie Reynolds. I never heard this song done by anyone else before. Thanks for posting!

  • @tamatha6 Cool! Thanks for enjoyin' it with us.

  • My favorite singer ever. Love this. Thanks!

  • Sam's version is just as good...if not better... as that other one!! ;) More soulful.

  • Cooke died at the age of thirty-three on December 11, 1964, at the Hacienda Motel at 9137 South Figueroa Street in Los Angeles, California. Bertha Franklin, manager of the motel, told police that she shot and killed Cooke in self-defense because he had threatened her.

  • @chrixchua

It's a real scandal how he died...unfortunate for someone soooo incredibly talented. In case you don't know, there is more to the story of why he was at the hotel. Read it if you're interested. I'm a big fan of Sam Cooke. His voice was so easily incredible. He didn't overpower everything - you don't hear voices like his nowadays.

  • he was killed in 1964

  • Have you ever heard anything...more beautiful? Wow, what a tear producer.

  • when did sam cooke pass away? so sad.

  • @chrixchua he was killed in 1964

  • My name IS Tammy and I only remembered when the movies came out with Debbie Reynolds singing it, What a shock to see and hear this version I can't thank you enough for posting. My sister and I would sing this in bed when we were little! Thanks a million. No one can touch his voice in my opinion Tammy

  • What a wonderful cover of a beautiful songI love this. Thanks for posting.

  • I was a teenager back in Guyana (Jim Jones 1978 ?) now I'm married with 6 kids & Sam Cooke was then, and still is, a singer of the greatest warmth, soul & beauty; there's simply no one else like him. I get a special kind of nostalgia listening to him. That voice - priceless

  • This is the most beautiful song I've ever heard...thank you Sam Cooke!

  • Without question one of the finest vocalists of my lifetime (I'm 59). Most likely that's Sam playing guitar on this. People that knew him said he was at his best just sitting with his guitar and singing a song. I had this on a cassette tape from Europe but lost it. Thanks so much for posting it. Calling this decent is like saying the Empire State Building is a little tall. It's manificent. If anyone thinks they could deliver this song better please step forward; I'd love to hear it.

  • what a sweet and beautiful voice, like sweet and warm honey on hot biscuits

  • My auntie name is Tammy,she past-away in 03.

When we have a dinner in her honor, will be sure to play this song.Sam Cooke is amazing.O my goodness!!!!!!!!

  • reminds me of my dad, he used to sing it in the kitchen making tea, R.I.P Dad miss you loads,xx

  • This song makes me cry...(sighs)

  • Thissing makes me want to go out and find a lady named Tammy so I can sing to her. I wonder who he had in mind when he sang it?

  • Thank you so much for posting this!

  • To say this is a decent version of the song is a huge understatement. This version is both touching and incredible. Only Sam could re-make it like this. To me, without a doubt he is the very best male vocalist ever. No one could deliver a song like Sam. The PBS documentary on Monday, 1/11/2010 was excellent. It gave an in-depth look into the man and his approach to music. Sam was one of those rare musical gifts to the world.

  • Agree cmpletely. Sam's version is exquisite.

  • anyone know the main chords/tabs to this tune?

  • ...tammy wynette took her stage name from this song...!

  • I never knew he did this. I love it very much. He puts his own special and superior touch on whatever he sings. I so wish we had Sam Cooke all these decades to bring us happiness.

    Rest in peace Sam Cooke.

  • LOVE IT thank you!
