  • Gordon was the man ...

  • Gordon Solie and Mean Gene were the best

  • i am very happily surprised with the comments on here :')

  • PRICELESS

  • Loved the footage from Barry Windham and Gordon Solie!!!

  • Ppppppp

  • kendo nagasaki,,ron bass,,wow haven't heard those names in forever,,,,

  • Florida wrestling was the best.

  • This is the era from when wrestling was best...I remember watching this show on saturday mornings...I still love Barry Windham!!!

  • Mighty Thor!!! No wait just Barry Windham.Really nice guy to boot.

  • Windham was incredible. He picked up some weight in his later years, but he never really looked out of shape. He could still go in the ring, respected the sport, and worked hard in every aspect of a match. He's one of my top five since I was a kid.

  • I think Gordon was constantly in the air back then going to various small, medium, and large markets in the South to tape the matches. I remember one time he was late to a match in Alabama and fumed "Southern Airways did it to me again!" This is probably why he's clarifying where he is before he starts the interview you see here. A true legend.

  • Barry Windham was a bad muther.

  • another True Animal but Bulge not so good

  • This interview didn't help build anything up. "Uhhhh, it is a championship that alot of really talented guys want to win. Some other dude that won it eventually became World Champion. Uhhhh, Florida, Florida, Florida."

  • Barry was a great talent and a great Horseman. You only need to ask Ric Flair how good he really was. A class act in and out of the ring.

  • If I believed Fickle Flair on who's good and who's not, I would think Bret Hart and Mick Foley are bad wrestlers and that Flair deserved all those championships that he booked for himself even when Nikita, Sting, Luger, Rude, Vader, Sid and others were younger and ready for the the big stage. Believing Flair's opinion of good "workers" is no better than Hogan's opinion of the Nasty Boys, Brutus Beefcake, or the Honky Tonk Man. They both have friends and enemies in wrestling.

  • I believe Barry was great because I watched his work throughout his career. Not just because of what Ric thinks of him. You can ask other wrestlers too that have worked with him. Not too many I've heard have ever had a bad thing to say about him. Barry was a much better Horseman than Luger ever was just by his understanding of how to work.

  • Gordon Solie was GREAT! Watched him with my grandfather when I was just kind. :-)

  • I remember watching Stampede Wrestling from Calgary AB. He was a great color commentator. He also did play by play for the NHL's Calgary Flames.

  • That was Ed Whalen that you are talking about. This is Gordon Solie from Florida, who also worked for GCW on TBS and the Fuller promotion Continental Championship Wrestling. He worked for NWA/WCW as well in late 80s/early 90s.

  • You are right. I didn't think what I said was correct. Ed Whalen. I miss the good 'ole days of Calgary Stampede Wrestling.

  • GREAT video!! Quality looks like it was taped yesterday! Boy did Windham put on some weight over the years! Rare find!

  • my ass is hurting me.

  • "Don't fuck around"

  • There is absolutely nothing "gay" about Barry Windham. Barry was/is a ladies man. Pat Patterson is openly gay and has always admitted to it. I don't understand though what that has to do with Barry Windham. But, never mind, I don't want/need an answer.

  • Thats the way people dressed in the 80's retard. Quit watching this great footage and go away

  • Barry is in good shape here

  • small package

  • Comment removed

  • "small package in your arse"?????? hey if you like em big what ever

  • You misunderstood what I said, but no big deal, plus it was said as a joke. One thing I hate about you tube, people take everything literally. LOL.

Oh yes, in your original post, were you referring to Gordon Solie or Barry Windham, LMAO?

No offense to the great Gordon Solie or Barry Windham - great wrestler in his day.

  • are you simple?i was asking YOU why you asked me the stupid question you asked me,my 'stands'question was retorical but im still interested why you asked me what fucker means?

  • Barry Windham stands about 6-8 and weights about 268 pounds.

  • its like me saying jerrime what do you mean by stands?

  • mcjeff1234? Meaning how tall he is.

  • He's 6-4 or 6-5 tops!

  • The 5th best wrestler announcer of all time.

  • ok Jerrime who is number one in your estimation.

  • Number one in what? I don't get your question!

  • And ah...

  • Gordon Solie is slated for induction into the 2008 WWE Hall of Fame along with Ric Flair, High Chief Peter Maivia, Rocky Johnson, Mae Young, The Brisco Brothers (Jack and Jerry) and Eddie Graham.

  • windham is up there with bret as one of the coolest fuckers on the planet, great worker too

  • mcjeff1234? What do you mean by fuckers?

  • what a question that is??????????????????????

i am just saying barry windham is a cool mo fo! why would you even ask ? its not important.

  • im still interesed why you asked what i mean by the word fuckers? i am currently doing a

study at university on why people ask really stupid question and i would love your imput on it,as it is one of the weirdestand most obvious things ive ever been asked?

  • I love this stuff, and thanks for posting it. I grew up in the Tampa, Florida area and it was a Saturday evening ritual to watch Championship Wrestling from Florida with Gordon Solie(THE MAN). The WWE with all of its flash, multi-million dollar budgets and Hollywood caliber production value has nothing on this old, classic stuff. WWE is souless, over the top, garbage in comparison.

  • @Nightowl358 So long...from the sunshine state!

  • @Nightowl358 I dont think its a fair assessment. Gorilla Monsoon and Gordon Solie may be the 2 classiest men to ever broadcast wrestling. Gorilla was a class act and great representative for WWE in the 80s and 90s

  • This was WAY better than the lame WWE crap out these days...

  • Always liked Windham!!

  • Gosh, do I miss that man. The greatest professional sports broadcaster ever to walk the face of the earth. He of the 'crimson mask'. RIP Gordon

  • Ha. Old Bazza is standing on a box for this one.

  • Proudspook

Barry Windham is about 6'5. What do you mean he was standing on a box? He didn't have to!

  • And Andre "The Giant" didn't need to stand on a box but he did. And I do believe Andre was quite a bit taller than Windham, standing at 7ft 2".

  • "proudspook"

I know that box standing was a gimmick used to make wrestlers look bigger. As you pointed out with Andre.

But I don't think it was used in this case. Gordon Solie was not a big man(at all) and Barry being about 6'5 and add 2 or 3 inches for the cowboy wrestling boots he wore. His height in this vid. looks legitimate.

  • Actually watching this video, I may agree with you here.

  • Smellyjockstrap, I totally agree with you. Barry was so sexy and cute back in the day. I enjoyed his athletic wrestling ability and that body in those skimpy wrestling trunks.

  • barry windham I like is work in the ring stuff with ric flair and arn anderson you can't put money on those moments.

thank you for sharing this video!!!

  • Barry was a great worker. New exactly how to use his size and worked his way up from the bottom. Nothing but respect for this man. Pro-wrestling needs more people like him.

  • How I miss the "old days" of "regional" wrestling!! Don't watch much these day! Gordon Solie was a Sat tradition in the 60's-80's in Fla...and later Ga and other areas. Nobody did it better.

  • wooooow! I had a HUGE crush on him back in the 80's....wow!

  • This is raw footage from a local cable show where Gordon Solie interviews Barry Windham. Contains some bloopers in the interview which makes this rare.

  • I'd be interested to know where this came from too, awesome footage though!

  • Where did you find this???Man this is great.

  • me and my mom didnt get cable tv till 86' :(

but my sister had it so i would beg to watch the

southern wrestling when i could. We never got much

of that on regular tv in rhode island but cable carried it and was a rare treat when i got too see it.

gotta agree gordon solie was a classic

and my fav wrestler then was ric flair.

  • Its not really a blooper but an awesome behind the scenes getting ready for an interview!

  • My friend and I had the biggest crush on Barry in the mid-80s. We used to go to wrestling at the Miami Beach Convention Center and wait outside afterwards to get a chance to talk to him.

  • How the hell did you find this!?!

  • by HOT, I hope you mean really over...

  • Any kind of hot would be accurate for him.

  • Nope, I am female and I mean "sexy" hot.

  • Gordon was one of the greatest sportscasters ever!

  • In the mid 80s, Windham was near the top. He came a long way from his debut in 1980 as a skinny young kid.

  • Barry was HOT in those days!

  • um... whats the blooper??

  • lol...great stuff

  • windham was underrated as a speaker.

  • Haha, "no fuckin' around".

  • Where in the world did you get this? (raw footage part). Great stuff. Man, I miss local territory TV wrestling. So much better than the WWE circus. And of course, Gordon Solie is the best wrestling commentator of all time!

  • Spectacular stuff!!

  • Gordon Solie was the man! Great stuff

  • Excellent! Love the behind scenes raw footage. I love how Gordon puts the FLorida title over. Barry looked so great!
