awesome set up i have the same interface but i have a question which i know sounds stuoid but iam a total noob at this. i have the tascam vlm3 reference monitors but where on the us1641 can i plug them in so i can listen to my drum recordings? easy question i know but as i said am a /NOOB
Quick tip: Put the CPU on the other side of the wall in the other room. Bore a 2 or 3 inch hole in the wall and cover them with open faceplates. Then run the wires through the hole.
Silent studio, or at least, no loud CPU fans getting into every single recording.
This is the single best thing you can do to clean up recordings. Then get some studio foam eventually.
@falardeaudrummer I put the mixer console in one screen and then have everything else in the other. I don't have to change windows during playback, mastering.
hey man, i have a mac osx 10.4.11 i'm about to get rid of my Mbox2 and reason and record an swtich to logic. This interface of your's appeals to me because of the price.. How is the tascam us1641? have you had any problems with it? and how does it sound?
The only thing that sets the cloud before the sun, is the keyboard. You can get an old a33 for a 3rd of a vacuumcleaner (or less than the discount offer at ALDI), and even though it's not the best piece of technology ever made, it will make your playing a lot more natural. See, keys play a tone at a given volume. A lot of the feeling is in the velocity (volume), and cheap keys are awfull at that (bad vel-curves etc). Buy a musicians keyboard and use plugins :-) NICE setup, though!
Hey!
No it does not. Pro-Tools only works with Digidesign Hardware. There is an alternative software called Pro-Tools M-Powered for use with M-Audio gear, but none for Tascam. I would suggest Cubase as a substitute.
@TheFalconking I know your comment was posted 4 months ago and you probably already know! But I have been told by Tascam that they do now do drivers for Windows 7, you can download them from their website
@ABoRyM13 i want to work with the tascam 1641 and use pro tools! is that possible? because i've been told it is but then everything i've been reading shows that its not.
@77ToothandNail77 hey no you cant you would need a protools interface. its weird because protools interfaces work with other bits of software but not the other way around >.<
I want a external soundcard quite like the tascam us-1641 but i'd need two MIDI inputs/outputs.. what would you recommand me ?? (I need at least eight mic inputs)
hi there hope you can help, i also have a tascam us1641 and i agree its great, anyway im having problems with the headphone out, i cant seem to get any sound from cubase le 4 to it, at the moment im running my headphones from output 3, i cant seem to find a buss called (headphones) anywhere, hope you can help, cheers
i had the same problem, you have to use the headphone-out on the device, not on the computer. to get the sound from cubase out of the TASCAM, you have to turn the input-computer nob to computer
ok thanks dude!! i just ordered a tascam 1641 but i need to wait for a month for it to reach my place coz im form philippines,, hope you can help me out if im having trouble installing the drivers. . thanks again! !
The tascam works great, had a little trouble installing the drivers, (the manual sucks) but once installed, it rocks ! sound is great and no latency. Lots of inputs and outputs. I recommend it to anybody who wants quality in this price level. The monitors are M-AUDIO BX8A´S and just love them, they sound rich, clear and totaly flat, no coloration at all. I´m getting another pair soon.
cool toys : )

Right theres people on here with the tascam.... I need just to back up what i know.
Does the tascam record on seperate tracks the full 8 mic inputs at the same time?
Cheers. Its a weird question but these companies never tell you if you can record from all the inputs or if its just recorded as stereo out

Talked to Tascam last week. They have Windows 7 drivers coming out this week.

Seems like they're still not out. I use the Vista 64 bit drivers and they suck!
Still working in 32 bit for now. They better upgrade fast before I seel it and buy something else.

Logic Pro, Digital Performer, Cubase, SONAR, Nuendo, Final Cut Pro, Soundtrack, Vegas, Live, GigaStudio.
Most other ones will work too. As long as they are either ASIO, GSIF2, or CoreAudio compatible.

Hwy man! I'm thinking about buying a US1641, and i have a pair of doubts. I hope you could help me.
Does the Hi-Z inputs (9 & 10) use a preamp? I mean, can I use it for a mic with a XLR/TRS cable?
Can you use the S-PDIF inputs with analog signals (the tape-out of a mixing console with RCA, for example...), or it's just only for digital flow?
Thank you very much!!
