British through and through here ... and can tell you that this clip has been taken from a British Television Comedy series. It's a sketch, just a comedy sketch, and all it's done is to put some of those old fashioned values under a microscope and enlarge upon them - make them bigger and brasher, - in order to make people laugh. It's not serious folks. It's a comedy sketch! Totally just for laughs!!
No one should really be offended by this, it's just gently ridiculing the social mores of Britain in the 1930s and doing it in the style of the old BBC news reels. This was a patriarchal age when women were viewed as being mere supports for their husbands. Check out the other clips in the series such as "L is for Labour, L is for Lice" which mocks attitudes towards the working class in Britain. As well as parodying the chauvanism of the time, these clips also highlight the old class structure.

Ohhh heck! To those of you who think that Britain is or was actually like this... nope. British through and through here ... and can tell you that this clip has been taken from a British Television Comedy series. It's a sketch, just a comedy sketch, and all it's done is to put some of those old fashioned values under a microscope and enlarge upon them - make them bigger and brasher, - in order to make people laugh. It's not serious folks. It's a comedy sketch! Totally just for laughs!!

No one should really be offended by this, it's just gently ridiculing the social mores of Britain in the 1930s and doing it in the style of the old BBC news reels. This was a patriarchal age when women were viewed as being mere supports for their husbands. Check out the other clips in the series such as "L is for Labour, L is for Lice" which mocks attitudes towards the working class in Britain. As well as parodying the chauvanism of the time, these clips also highlight the old class structure.

@klamath2048 that film was not made in the 50s it was made around 1988! And it was a comedy sketch made to make fun of how the women had less rights in previous history of every country. I'm not some guy who will get pissed of around a single joke about there country all the time (in fact us Brits are known to be always taking the piss about our selves!) just so you know.
