Actually, working in a casino, this has almost the same theme as the songs on Turn of a Friendly Card's songs. It seems to be more about Casino Surveillance. In the late 70's, early 80's, surviellance was done by people walking on catwalks above the casino floor. They would look down through 1-way mirrors, so they could see you, but you couldn't see them. It almost tells about a guy on the surveillance team who's in on a scam/heist, so he's pretending to be asleep, etc.
@wgafm nice interp and your view can also be used for the excellent ammonia avenue track erics finest felt vocal in the entire alan parsons discography in my opinion.
One of my APP favourites...I LOVE the guitar solo in here. The lyrics are typical for APP, a somewhat outsider perspective, which I can identify with.
but dont you think is too much of an obvious metaphor? and to be honest i dont see it as a metaphor to begin with, much more like trying to put into images the lyrics in a very unimaginative way. By his standards its not a very interesting concept for a video. When you listen to a song in the dark with your headphones on I bet you get more interesting mental images. "Dont answer me" for instance is a great video filled with rich imagery
As for the song the DJs all over Central Indiana seemed to love playing it even though unfortunately it didn't seem to make the charts at the time. Too bad not enough others didn't hear the great song they and I did.
Not my favorite APP video though I love love love the song! I used it for a slide presentation of our Europe trip in college for Italian hilltowns like Siena and San Gimignano, places literally on higher ground. But like this video the towers in these ancient European cities represented an edge their owners had over everyone else.
how does it not match.. hes standing on the top of a high building.. being the higher ground.. and he's looking around.. I think it's pretty self explanitory
Great song by the almighty Alan Parsons Project and an excellent video to go with it. I remember when this album/cd came out I was living in Miami Beach, Florida and the radio station there claimed they were the 1st station in the nation,(USA) to play 100% CD's 24 hours a day. I was driving to the beach hearing this song with the volume cranked up thinking; it doesn't get any better than this!
that's true but at the same time it's giving these artists a chance to shine again and to get paid for their work. Now I'm sick and tired of the wrong use of sampling.
thanks i needed that

Just found this looking for Geoff Barradale, singer of underrated british pop band of the eighties Vitamin Z, singing in this song as well.

You know, listening to the words, they have a spiritual meaning of staying honest and having inner peace(in spite of the poor guy in the video!)

Absolutely!
Good for you and your clear testimony/witness on your profile and blog.
Thank you for your great example.
There also is another interpretation ..
You might really enjoy Turn of a Friendly Card, if you are not familiar with that.

Personally, I'm tired of these rap artists sampling these great songs just to take the easy way out to have a hit. Just my opinion.
