Curlin is better then street sense street sense won the Kentucky derby but Preakness lose again curlin by a nose but then in the third leg in curlin get second and street sense don't even hit the board and also check all the races they run again each other street sense only beat curlin one time and is all check it out
...and to those who say it was just because of the slop that Curlin won, think again. Hard Spun ran a terrific race to finished second behind Curlin in the Classic after defeating Street Sense in their final Breeders' Cup prep. Both Curlin and Hard Spun finished where they deserved in the Classic and there was nothing "false" about it. All three exceptional horses!
I think Curlin was much better than Street Sense. You have to remember that Street Sense had a fantastic 2-year-old foundation to fall back on and Curlin only began his career in Feb, just months before the Triple Crown. Winning the Preakness (equaling the fastest time ever) in his 4th start is astounding, especially after getting passed and regaining the lead from his far more experienced rival. He also completely demolished Street Sense in the Breeders' Cup Classic...
great race but dont be stupid folks.yeah curlins better than big brown.he the next best horse not even fucking close learn something about horse racing first then talk to me.vid quality awful it looks like its back from like early 90s compared to just a couple years ago.they show the first two horses and nothing else the camera work is pathetic and the announcer doesnt even mention curlin goes three wide at the turn to put himself in good drive for home. he mentions curlin at wire bad at his job
He stumbled at the start. Nobody ever talks about that when talking about this race. Profoundly under appreciated horse. He wins back to back classics if on dirt. It's a shame a true dirt horse can't be himself in this age of synthetics.
@jmplays44 Yup that he is. However don't be like me and hear this call with headphones on!! He went up those decibels and scared me towards the end! LOL!
@AlreadyGone15 forego didn't win horse of the year 5 times. more like 3 times. I think Kelso won it 5 times. All you have to do is look at the heart and determination. How many races do you see a horse get passed like that and dig in and come back? It almost never happens. Seattle Slew was the greatest race horse ever, just watch his races. Curlin's performance in this race is the stuff of legend.
Curlin is a great horse but no Secretariat. Nonetheless he beat a very game Street Sense in this thriller. And take nothing away from Hard Spuns effort either. HS always gave you a good race and he proved it later again that year in the BC Classic finishing 2nd to Curlin. It was a pretty good year for 3 year olds overall and this race had a very exciting finish. Remember that Curlin was still lightly raced and just started getting his feet wet on the racetrack.
Of COURSE Secretariat is Better then Curlin!! But didnt you JUST use your eyes??? Street Sense is NOT better then Curlin, because well, CURLIN JUST BEAT HIM!!! So, why dont you go watch the vids a couple hundred more times to get it through your PUNY BRIAN
@apachespook71 street sense IS better than curlin, didn't you watch the derby? curlin came in 4th! street sense won! and street sense only lost by a nose in the preakness, seriously get your brain checked.
@horseracergirl Actually Curlin finished third in the Derby and had an absolutely nightmarish trip. The fact that he finished that well while being so inexperienced is amazing.
@steel966 while Curlin is the all time highest earner Secretariat won all 3 of triple crown and blew th field away with style the best horse since secretariat is Zenyatta competition for secretariat Cigar or Skip Away
i like curlins' heart but for the people who say he's better than big brown i dnt kno cuz pre-belmont big brown put horses away with 3/16 to go with acceleration i havent seen b4.
I love Calvin Borel and I think hes an awesome jockey, BUT, i think his last look back cost him the race. I think he thought his lead was a little more and stopped the whip and push to look back and realized Curlin, who is an AWESOME horse, was closing and by the time he got the whip and puch going agian it was to late. A race that close every micrometer counts. Ya got to love a great horse race
"A race that close every micrometer counts. " I totally agree! The difference of 10 feet could have made the difference here; Street Sense would have been extending stride and Curlin would have been collecting stride. Also, Street Sense had the tendency to "turn off" once he hit the lead.
That was one of Daves better calls but even though Durkin stumbled a bit in his stretch call, you cant beat his(durkins)SREEET SENSE IN DEEP WATER blast.
I agree with Ruffian4ever, I'd rather ride and train my own horse then give to any other person. And if my horse has a chance of getting hurt, then I won't race, call me a scardy cat but I care about horses, not just the dopes who care about winning. Curlin is awesome, and if he doesn't win, so what? He's still a beautiful goregous horse who loves to run, and has good owners to let him do it
Belmont - Curlin coming off Preakness & running against fresher horses who did not run in each of the big 3. Example - they skipped Preakness to be fresh for the Belmont. Anyway, Rags did have a lot of heart - too much. Took 3 months to recover, never won again (came in 2nd twice), then injured and put to brood service. Still think Curlin may have been confused by running against a female instead of mounting her (from behind, of course).
i like curlin and big brown. but i seriously doubt big brown is in his prime. he's a very young 3 year old who will only get better IMO. i doubt think BB would "destroy" curlin but i think he'd win.
Here is some fuel for the debate...I don't actually agree with this quote, nonetheless below is a quote from Dutrow after the Haskell:
Curlin couldn't win the Derby, we could," Dutrow said. "Curlin couldn't win this race, we could. Curlin got beat [by] a filly. We haven't. Our horse is undefeated on the grass. Curlin isn't. I don't know why people think Curlin is such a good horse. We're way better than Curlin."
Rick Dutrow is definitely arrogant, but he's is arguably the best trainer in the US. .24 winning percentage is hard to argue with. His brother, Anthony, is also pretty amazing in his own right.
He is NOT the best trainer. I would NEVER send my horse to him. Look at that horse he ran twice in 24 hours....ITS DEAD. And all his fault. It was also probably doped up on drugs, Dutrow seems to like to do that too.
From a win percentage and a montetary perspective, there are very few who can beat Rick Dutrow. For example, Dutrow is clobbering Zito and Baffert this year. Only the likes of Kiaran McGlaughin, Christophe Clemente, Linda Rice and his own brother are near him on the NY circuit. Also, I am pretty sure that if you owned the horse Dutrow was training, you wouldn't have to race it twice in 24 hrs after all, it is yours. I wouldn't go blaming him entirely. He is a jerk, but the horse is yours
As far as the monetary standpoint, Asmussen and Pletcher are kicking his ass. Even if Dutrow was the best trainer, I still wouldnt send my horse there. I want my horse to be healthy and happy...winning isnt everything. Plus, all of his arrogant and ignorant comments just degrade the name and "legacy" of his horses. And Dutrow's success is only because he has IEAH as an owner and he hasnt pissed them off too bad yet.
If winning isn't everything in horse racing, why do they race? This isn't T-ball. I get it, it's cool to not like Big Brown, but when BB runs in the BCC and Curlin is no where to be found, who will talk of legacy? If Curlin is truly the best horse, which he could be, why should surface matter? He is awesome, I've stood five feet from him at CHD, but Big Brown is no joke. BTW, Dutrow also had half as many starts as Pletcher did at the Saratoga meet this year and made 3/4 of the $ as Pletcher.
Winning isnt worth it when you kill your horse doing it. Wouldnt you want your horse to come back sound to race again? If not you would be out a shit load of money.
The reason I dont like Big Brown because of "Dicktrow" and IEAH-nothing but arrogant pricks talking out of their ass. And Big Brown is nowhere near Curlin-BB has beat a bunch of nobodies!
And this year running the Breeders Cup DIRT races on SYNTHETIC is crap-it really pisses me off. Totally different surface-not dirt, not turf.
agreed. Winning isn't everything. I wouldn't pump my horse full of roids just to win a couple of races. Much like the disdain for Barry Bonds, it's a hollow victory to artificially enhance peroformance.
@tsackella, If the Big Brown that showed up for the 08' Florida and Kentucky Derbies, and the Preakness was on the track, I'd bet him, anytime to beat Curlin on dirt. But if it was the Big Brown that labored in the 08' Belmont Stakes, and the Big Brown that barely got home first against a very weak 08' Haskell field, I'd take Curlin. When Big Brown was on his game, that colt could explode, and just really run away from you. Curlin never really dominated that way in his career. TJMO.
"Curlin won the Dubai World cup, BB didnt, Curlin Won the Jocky club Gold cup, BB didnt, Curlin is America's RICHES RACE HORSE, BB ISNT, I dont know why people keep saying BB is better when Curlin is really the best." quoted, by ME.
Wow. I've never seen Curlin run before. I'm a big fan of Big Brown, but Curlin looks as if he DID have harder competition. Or is Big Brown that good that he just makes alot of other horses look slower? Both horses are amazing.
I dont think that was a case of Curlin winning, it was Street Sense having it wrapped up and I dont know what happened. You just dont see that in racing. Something went wrong.
Really classy, quality American classic-distance racing? Today Curlin took the Stephen Foster Handicap! Thanks Curlin, for keeping the heart and thrill in horse racing. Stay safe, and take the Breeders Cup, then the Dubai again! Finally, go to stud & live happily long after.
I truly think last year was the last of the really classy, quality American classic-distance racing. :( Big Brown has little quality competition, especially with the filly gone.
ha ha ha ha thats funny, curlin will kick his ASS! big turd has yet to face a decent horse, lets look at who curlin has beat, street sense ,hard spun ,lawyer ron ,asiatic boy . these are not cream puffs like what big turd has been beating!
big brown is a good horse..but curlin has beaten more notable horses...plus i think big brown will not like it whe curlin is breathing down his neck. Big brown is not use to running with horses that have as much grit and finishing kick as curlin does.
3/29/08 Curlin takes the Dubai World Cup in UAE. Blew past the field as soon as Robby asked - not even full out to win. What a horse - congrats! Now, if some of his owners could get out of jail to watch him, LOL!
i think curlin is in the top 3 horses we have seen in this decade and im so excited about his 4 year old campaign im thinking back to back classics is a good possibility.
tom durkin??/ seriously, give dave rodman som credit that is who called that race. the race caller at pimlico and laurel, want to see another good one from him check the afleet alex call in the 05 preakness
my bad, it wasn't Durkin, sounds like him though, but I should have known better. I watched the NBC call and it wasn't even close to touching this one, kudos to Dave Rodman. Durkin is still the man though.
I love this race. Curlin looks like he is out of it with a furlong to go, and then he kicks in agains and makes an exciting finish. He seems to either make it a really close race or a blowout. Close in the Jockey Club, blowout in the Breeders Cup, etc. Lets hope he can have a blowout in the Dubai!!
No doubt about it. Even the two races he lost he looked great. In the Belmont he 5 lbs to a great filly and only lost by a nose. In the Derby he had traffic problems and was bumbed every which way and still came in third.
Thanks, I've got a Triple Crown video as well that celebrates Curlin, Street Sense, and Rags to Riches set to Just Like Heaven by the Cure. Love your videos.
Curlins OK but hes not the greatest. no were near. i just wish he had better owners. a few of his owners are criminals and thats why i dont like him. but i dont hate him that much because he cant help who his owners are. Great to hear he got beat by Rag to Riches. you go girl! :)
why would you not like a horse becuase of it's owners? are you fucking stupid? and he is a pretty damn great horse, he's never finished out of the money and was the top horse last year.
no im not stupid i just dont like his owners and if the owners sold their full percentage ownership to someone WHO DESERVES HIM then maybe he could be more like able... and i yeah he was good but not necessaraly great... there hasnt been a horse entitled great in my opinion in YEARS. a horse has to be a great runner inorder to be great...but i'm going to predict that he may sire some great ones... just gotta get a good bloodmare LOL
After that win today (Breeder's Cup Classic) I hope Curlin races as a 4 year old. Great chance to be a double Classic winner, and one of the Top 50 horses ever to run.
at first i was upset when i couldnt find the nbc coverage with tom durkin on here. however, i dont remember durkin's call that day being anywhere close to this guys! great race, and a better call!
That was prbably one of the most exciting races i've eer watched! Curlin was my derby horse, so im happy he won. Wow he improved a lot off of the derby! I really think he has potential to become the champion 3-year-old this year, and it seems like there could be a rivalry starting between curlin and street sense. Street Sense was awesome in the juvinile and derby tho. i hope he runs in the belmont!
must have been 3 assholes who but Street Sense. I F@##@G hammered Curlin this day.

3/29/08 Curlin takes the Dubai World Cup in UAE. Blew past the field as soon as Robby asked - not even full out to win. What a horse - congrats! Now, if some of his owners could get out of jail to watch him, LOL!
dmckenz1 3 years ago
Believe me his owners deserve to be where they are. Stole a ton of cash from victims of the fen-phen settlement.
tsackella 3 years ago
The Arabs like to buy our best horses, maybe they will put down enough money to buy Curlin and put him to stud.
dmckenz1 3 years ago
That's exactly what I don't want. If Prince Whoever owned him, he would have been retired with Street Sense and Hard Spun, imo.
theonlygeoman 3 years ago
barbaro would have won this race if he was alive!!!!! good vid! go curlin! curlin popped out of nowhere! i thought hard spun would have won!
mingorules1 3 years ago
No.......he would have been to old for this race.

i think curlin is in the top 3 horses we have seen in this decade and im so excited about his 4 year old campaign im thinking back to back classics is a good possibility.

"CURLIN'S COURAGIOUS!" Gotta love Tom Durkin!
nickndad 3 years ago
Me too. I'm sure if Durkin was the guy who called the race he would have done a terrific job.
rjk120769 3 years ago
tom durkin??/ seriously, give dave rodman som credit that is who called that race. the race caller at pimlico and laurel, want to see another good one from him check the afleet alex call in the 05 preakness
ethanatwork 3 years ago
my bad, it wasn't Durkin, sounds like him though, but I should have known better. I watched the NBC call and it wasn't even close to touching this one, kudos to Dave Rodman. Durkin is still the man though.

I love this race how Curlin comes up from the back! It truly was an amazing race. And this shows that if your down it doesnt mean your out!

I love this race. Curlin looks like he is out of it with a furlong to go, and then he kicks in agains and makes an exciting finish. He seems to either make it a really close race or a blowout. Close in the Jockey Club, blowout in the Breeders Cup, etc. Lets hope he can have a blowout in the Dubai!!

i think if curlin stays sound we will all see how great he is as a 4 yr old!
izvestia03 3 years ago
Curlin could be the best three year old colt since one of my favorites Easy Goer.

No doubt about it. Even the two races he lost he looked great. In the Belmont he 5 lbs to a great filly and only lost by a nose. In the Derby he had traffic problems and was bumbed every which way and still came in third.

I love Curlin, he's my all time favorite and has been since the Arkansas Derby. I made a tribute to him. Check it out if you are interested.

Thanks, I've got a Triple Crown video as well that celebrates Curlin, Street Sense, and Rags to Riches set to Just Like Heaven by the Cure. Love your videos.

Curlin is an awesome horse, but he is not even close to being the best in my personal opinion I think Secretariat was the best O.o
sugarpuppy137 4 years ago
Curlins OK but hes not the greatest. no were near. i just wish he had better owners. a few of his owners are criminals and thats why i dont like him. but i dont hate him that much because he cant help who his owners are. Great to hear he got beat by Rag to Riches. you go girl! :)
RidingWithRuffian 4 years ago
why would you not like a horse becuase of it's owners? are you fucking stupid? and he is a pretty damn great horse, he's never finished out of the money and was the top horse last year.
xomaddiesue 4 years ago
no im not stupid i just dont like his owners and if the owners sold their full percentage ownership to someone WHO DESERVES HIM then maybe he could be more like able... and i yeah he was good but not necessaraly great... there hasnt been a horse entitled great in my opinion in YEARS. a horse has to be a great runner inorder to be great...but i'm going to predict that he may sire some great ones... just gotta get a good bloodmare LOL

After that win today (Breeder's Cup Classic) I hope Curlin races as a 4 year old. Great chance to be a double Classic winner, and one of the Top 50 horses ever to run.
smadonna 4 years ago
he needs to run on the turf before he could even remotely be considered for the to 500

its breath taking race oh my god what a finished
nhey052887 4 years ago
That was prbably one of the most exciting races i've eer watched! Curlin was my derby horse, so im happy he won. Wow he improved a lot off of the derby! I really think he has potential to become the champion 3-year-old this year, and it seems like there could be a rivalry starting between curlin and street sense. Street Sense was awesome in the juvinile and derby tho. i hope he runs in the belmont!

Ah... Good ol' Dave Rodman. He good. I remember him announcing at Louisiana Downs back in the 80's-early 90s. Gosh! He brings his A-game every time!
