I don't know all this talk about bugs these days... Supposedly every game is bug-ridden, but I can't remember when that really was a problem for me.
Also the character system is fine in this game. It's not fantastic, but it works OK. Not worth making a fuss about. Mass Effect is much worse, although smooth and therefore almost unnoticeable.
There's nothing particularly wrong with this game (as far as good games go these days it is worth a look), except the hacking mini games. The game would have been far more successful if it wouldn't have the most awful hacking games ever. They are as motivating and entertaining as a nasty system error.
Alpha Protocol isn't the best game ever, but it is unique. I'd gladly trade the massproduced big name games of the day for something with a little flavor like AP.

I'm playing it now. Many of the bugs have been fixed. Rough edges are still there though. Texture pop-in on 360 is really bad. The forking plot is really intriguing though!! Overall I am really enjoying it.

@Lazar3451 What bugs? I never had bug problems in the game, neither glitches, the game was fantastic on my system, and i went through at least SIX playthroughs, and never had a problem with the game. I had instead a blast playing to see scenes i never saw in other playthorughs, characters i've never even met before in the game!!, different endings and all that. Alpha Protocol is one of the best games I've ever played. Thank you Obsidian. I hope we see a sequel someday.
Id have to agree witht this review. I am a big fan of games like this and your decisions are fun to see through but the game is so unpolished that slowly bleeds the fun away, and im no new age gamer, im used to poor AI, confusing layouts and glich improvising.

I especially like how they'll crucify a game for some AI (something that doesn't even exist in CoD) or graphics glitch or a crappy or short campaign but when it occurs in CoD they either ignore it or claim that it's unimportant and that no game is perfect. This is only more proof that IGN is purely purely commercial. They mention New Vegas. I would say that New Vegas was visually shit and the game was clunky to me. Protocol was much better than Vegas, but IGN loved the game smh

@Cm20014 I've never played Alpha Protocol so I don't know how much of a difference the dialogue choices actually make but I have played ME2 several times and the dialogue choices in that game seem to have no bearing on anything other than whether or not someone sleeps with you.Even with the helmet and choosing one of the special red/blue dialogue choices it doesn't seem to make a difference in the game. Now, Deus Ex: HR... that's a different story.
@stnwllstv then you can surely play Alpha Protocol. Human Revolution is much closer to it in terms of importance of dialogues rather than Mass Effect. I played all three Deus Ex games, all two Mass Effect and Alpha Protocol. So while it's my opinion - it IS mine, based on personal experience. But I must admit, there are certain flaws in AP - bugs, poor AI, somewhat undeveloped action-stealth mechanics. Still, for me AP was definitely something far more likable than Mass Effect.
@Legiro That's funny.I was just ordering AP when you posted.As for Mass Effect,the 1st was 10x better than the 2nd eventhough it was too light on combat.The 2nd was very good,taken on it's own,just not in comparison to the previous release.In neither did the dialogue choices have more than a trivial impact.I expect ME3 to be an even further step back from ME1.DE:HR,in my opinion,is a stellar RPG that I'd take over either ME any day.I wish it was longer though.
@WaPow132 If you haven't played it, you can't go wrong with the new Deus Ex.Personally I didn't care much for Two Worlds.Lotsa stuff but it just didn't seem to go anywhere.The Witcher is really good if you have a PC that'll handle it,although it doesn't take much.The Witcher 2 does have a console port but I've never played it.Lotta people say it's very good but it's different from the first one which is a PC exclusive.

Professional game critics are the worst sometimes at turning people off from a potentially awesome game. I've yet to buy/play Alpha Protocol, but I've always thought this game looks absolutely AWESOME. Bad review.
I really think it matters a lot HOW u play this game. Personally I completed the game twice with a stealth like approach and then the game really shines. The ridiculously overpowered pistol tree is great fun and planning out routes sneaking around while occasionally being is a heavy shoot out is great. All supported by a very decent story and fun game mechanics I would give this a 8.6/10 If u play this run and gun though the skills lack impact and the AI really falters 7.6 in that case.
all you people saying its underrated are being ignorant yourselves saying things like: So what if the graphics aren't good, the AI are stupid, the combat is bad, the story is a little cliche, and the game is glitchy . But at least there are a lot of decision making and innovating features. but what if the innovated(not all of them) features don't work well. the bad is out weighting the good in this game that makes it a bad game, that you may have fun with but not a lot of other people do.

i actually totally enjoyed playing this game. yes the AI wasnt too smart, the story was a little cliche but it is still the most engaging one i've encountered this year. thought the graphix was ok so yeah i'd say it should deserve a 7.5~8. if you like rpg and a good story this game is for u but if you just like hot fast action exploding heads u'd prolly look elsewhere

This game was a lot better then this guy made it sounds. Sure the chars and their voices are predictable but not out of the ordinary and made for fun dialog with all the sarcasm. You also showed the AI reacting to your rampage mode without stealth. I thought the enemies are a lot better then in the Hitman games and when you are in stealth they act like there is someone to find. And honestly, the visuals are fairly good considering, what did you expect, a real life movie? I give this game a 8.9

I bought this game at release and I don't regret getting it. I'm still holding on to the game and am still playing it from time to time. I don't understand how this game got really bad reviews... sure, it needs a little work here and there but doesn't any first game? All these reviews pulled it down so much that it didn't make enough money to warrant a sequel... AND I WANT A SEQUEL DAMMIT!

I bought this on the Steam sales and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. It's a little rough around the edges, but in there is a rich and unique RPG with fun characters and some actual consequences to your actions.
If it was 40$ I'd say it's rather expensive for its quality, but for 2$ you should get it right this moment.

Best stealth game ever! Alpha Protocol is incredible.
Reminds me strongly of Bob Morane, Mike's appearence and the overall setting. Looks like the folks at Obsidian were fans of old spy series.

@Cm20014 I've never played Alpha Protocol so I don't know how much of a difference the dialogue choices actually make but I have played ME2 several times and the dialogue choices in that game seem to have no bearing on anything other than whether or not someone sleeps with you.Even with the helmet and choosing one of the special red/blue dialogue choices it doesn't seem to make a difference in the game. Now, Deus Ex: HR... that's a different story.

@stnwllstv then you can surely play Alpha Protocol. Human Revolution is much closer to it in terms of importance of dialogues rather than Mass Effect. I played all three Deus Ex games, all two Mass Effect and Alpha Protocol. So while it's my opinion - it IS mine, based on personal experience. But I must admit, there are certain flaws in AP - bugs, poor AI, somewhat undeveloped action-stealth mechanics. Still, for me AP was definitely something far more likable than Mass Effect.

@Legiro That's funny.I was just ordering AP when you posted.As for Mass Effect,the 1st was 10x better than the 2nd eventhough it was too light on combat.The 2nd was very good,taken on it's own,just not in comparison to the previous release.In neither did the dialogue choices have more than a trivial impact.I expect ME3 to be an even further step back from ME1.DE:HR,in my opinion,is a stellar RPG that I'd take over either ME any day.I wish it was longer though.

@WaPow132 If you haven't played it, you can't go wrong with the new Deus Ex.Personally I didn't care much for Two Worlds.Lotsa stuff but it just didn't seem to go anywhere.The Witcher is really good if you have a PC that'll handle it,although it doesn't take much.The Witcher 2 does have a console port but I've never played it.Lotta people say it's very good but it's different from the first one which is a PC exclusive.

I really think it matters a lot HOW u play this game. Personally I completed the game twice with a stealth like approach and then the game really shines. The ridiculously overpowered pistol tree is great fun and planning out routes sneaking around while occasionally being is a heavy shoot out is great. All supported by a very decent story and fun game mechanics I would give this a 8.6/10 If u play this run and gun though the skills lack impact and the AI really falters 7.6 in that case.

all you people saying its underrated are being ignorant yourselves saying things like: So what if the graphics aren't good, the AI are stupid, the combat is bad, the story is a little cliche, and the game is glitchy . But at least there are a lot of decision making and innovating features. but what if the innovated(not all of them) features don't work well. the bad is out weighting the good in this game that makes it a bad game, that you may have fun with but not a lot of other people do.

i actually totally enjoyed playing this game. yes the AI wasnt too smart, the story was a little cliche but it is still the most engaging one i've encountered this year. thought the graphix was ok so yeah i'd say it should deserve a 7.5~8. if you like rpg and a good story this game is for u but if you just like hot fast action exploding heads u'd prolly look elsewhere

This game was a lot better then this guy made it sounds. Sure the chars and their voices are predictable but not out of the ordinary and made for fun dialog with all the sarcasm. You also showed the AI reacting to your rampage mode without stealth. I thought the enemies are a lot better then in the Hitman games and when you are in stealth they act like there is someone to find. And honestly, the visuals are fairly good considering, what did you expect, a real life movie? I give this game a 8.9

I don't understand how this game got really bad reviews... sure, it needs a little work here and there but doesn't any first game? I bought this on the Steam sales and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. It's a little rough around the edges, but in there is a rich and unique RPG with fun characters and some actual consequences to your actions.
If it was 40$ I'd say it's rather expensive for its quality, but for 2$ you should get it right this moment.
