in vain, things will have been WORSE BECAUSE WE WERE THERE. So this is a VERY DIFFICULT decision and it's why anyone who says their side is absolutely correct is not thinking right or is ill-informed. If we stay, we risk more lives, more billions that we don't have, but above all, it becomes EVEN MORE NECESSARY THAT WE STAY UNTIL THE END SO THAT THE MISSION, LIVES, COSTS ARE IN VAIN. If we leave, we risk the unintended yet not-definite consequence that EVERYTHING will have been in vain &WORSE
BILLIONS AND BILLIONS of dollars have and are being spent for this mission.
SO the question is this: Do we pull out and thereby allow the human cost as well as financial cost to be all in vain? For example, if we leave prematurely, and their soldiers are inadequately equipped, manned, trained, and they are overrun (thereby incredibly boosting the morale and recruiting of the taliban and al qaida) not only were all those deaths, injuries, financial costs
the assistance of the u.s this reasoning is predicated on the notion that if these places remain destitute and hopeless, the people will resort to al qaida (what may have increasing influence and presence there) and conspire to attack US here in the u.s. So thousands of lives have died FOR THIS MISSION, and MANY, MANY MORE have permanent debilitating injuries for the sake of this mission
B) ON THE OTHER HAND, again, THOUSANDS of lives DEAD; MANY MORE THOUSANDS PERMANENT INJURIES -- like losing
Whoever on the pro-withdrawal or anti-withdrawal side believes they're 100% right are quite frankly wrong
The truth is there is no EASY ANSWER to this EXTREMELY DIFFICULT predicament we're in. There are many levels to this which increases in sophistication and intellect, but I'll just summarize the basic basic level:
A) We've spent TEN YEARS AND COUNTING on this mission. What is the mission? To rebuild and train a formidable armed forces such that they will be able to defend themselves w/o
Ok, so I'm definately not a military strategist, and I dont really understand the politics behind all of this nonsense...but at first it was removal, now it's reinforce, guess we cant look forward to a drop in gas prices any time soon. Thx Obama.

You're exactly right about Iraq -- except that Obama has no plans for withdrawal. He plans on keeping at least 50,000 american soldiers in Iraq as a "residual" force. Obama is just an arrogant patsy who wanted to be POTUS.
He openly discourages volunteering for the military. Agrees that our soldiers are adulterers & murderous occupiers. Has accused our troops of "just air-raiding villages and killing civilians". Has stated he will slow the development of future combat systems. Believes that our military is a force for darkness in the world & that our enemies are kindhearted people wanting proactive disarmement for that same euphoric society. AND Brushed off the Military Ball at inauguration. Just to name a few.
What? Bush is the one that increased benefits and pay after Clinton gutted our military, both financially and bases. To say that Obama has done anything but detest our military is laughable....
funny, when Bush was in Baghdad, getting shoes thrown at him and meeting with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, Dec. 14, 2008, an agreement had already been made to start sending troops home by that projected timeframe....but the wonderful media in this country was so focused on how wonderful it was that shoes were thrown at Bush, they neglected to print what he was there for.....how convenient!...now Obama is the badass? gimme a break......
allot of people were expecting Obama to bring them out immediatly or in a really short period of time. Obama has to do this stratigaclly *srry for mispelling* and he himself said things will get worst b4 they get better. I'd much rather live with that, than an on going course of failure and zero progress, i wish u the best of luck Obama
And how many troops do we have in Japan? Or Germany? Many troops remain overseas for purposes beyond conflict. Diplomatic and political relations, public presence, etc. The reasons extend into interjoint studies, engineering projects, etc. We cannot stay if they don't want us there, either. We're not at war with South Korea... any time, they say go, and we go.
Can he do it alone? or must he have a yes from congress? what is his freedom inside this issue? so they will be back by April. He will support Irak but Bush went in to destroy it. This could end up better or worse. We shall see.
"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."

Ah yes. But what party has brought our country to this devestating point? What party failed to do anything in the last 8 years while in charge to prevent any of this from happening? Yes, it was Bush and the republicans. The Democratic party is always having to clean up after republicans.
The Iraq/Iran war lasted 8 yrs because Saddam was tougher and meaner than this new Prime Minister. Iran will invade Iraq faster than the US can pullout. The Americans and Iraqis will cry out for Bush, especially the troops left behind for Iran's massacring invasion.
This is not a withdrawal, we are leaving up to a 1/3 of our troops behind.
So,Obama lied to you again and we will more likely end up staying in Iraq for 100 yrs. Except this time, when Iran attacks Iraq, your children will be drafted. Your Obama supporting Children's eyes will only be opened when they are "Dead Eyes".
Why do you have a God complex? You have issued nothing here except blame for what I believe is a miserable life. You can talk all you want. But what the hell is your platform? You are not the judge and jury of the human race. You may want to stop behaving this way. You are gonna say the wrong thing to the wrong person.
To justify anything to you would be pointless since you do not have a straight platform for which you stand. You have not pissed me off. I still wonder why the Ron Paulies like you turn your back on your kool aid sheep screwing brainwashed leader? It won't work sheepster. 10 Year olds should stay off the news channels. It is a little too much for you.
You lost your right to complain since you have no candidate that you believe in. Therefore you have no platform to stand on other than the one you are on. Which is anger towards everyone. When the stimulus checks arrive.. Send it back. When the troops come home. Turn your back on them. When the new jobs are created keep your opinion to yourself. You blocked yourself out. That in my opinion is truly foolish.
I do not care if you do not vote. Except that if you do not vote then you cannot complain. It is your duty to vote. If you do not... Then in my opinion your opinion means nothing.
After seeing yours I noticed you like Disney. How about a stimulating conversation. Or maybe you should get over your God attitude and go back to watching Goofy (The cartoon. Not yourself)
Really? How do you differentiate all your differing opinions in your head long enough to make any comments? Maybe you have been youtube long enough that you wrote down all these clever little phrases. Yet how about a stimulating conversation? You say so many negatives about people on here. That I am left to wonder if this is self serving propaganda to extract the paranoid religious nuts so you can all sit around and massage each others corrupt egos. Or you have no purpose what so ever?
if theres anything i truly HATE in this world, its ignorance, obedience, or an evil footsoldier for the state. i dont even hate the dictators, i hate the people that love them.
I'm sorry ZeroHour but I see no reason for you're illogical rant against soldiers. Our primary mission is the defense of the people. However, we still have to obey the legal orer of our superiors. If the "dictator" you're referring to is Bush, we are legally bound to obey him, without undermining his orders, in the same way that Obama has that authority. The American soldier should be remaining above the fray politically, that's not our job.
invading a sovereign nation with no stated mission, stealing natural resources and killing 1.5 million civilians is not a political issue. itsa human rights issue. torturing innocent civilians including children at places like bagram airbase is not a political issue.
and training to confiscate american peoples weapons and put them in concentration camps is not a political issue. its an issue that many citizens wont need to debate. be careful what orders you follow.
Refusing to deploy in a time of war carries severe consequences. You may not understand what it is to make a commitment and then stick to it, but those of our military understand full well. Its a voluntary army, but once you sign the contract, you are duty and honor bound to carry out your orders, so long as they are not illegal orders. Going into what was suppose to be a legitimate war is not illegal... stupid, yes... but to expect the soldiers to give up their futures is ridiculous.
Because Bush was planning to withdraw everybody that week, but gosh darn it, those silly terrorists just kept fighting back!
Seriously though... the troops remaining there will not be in combat positions. If they take up combat positions without specific orders to do so, they'll face court martial for it. The solution is withdrawal, but the reality is that it isn't happening overnight, and that we made a mess of things.
I'll ignore all the spam and trolls here and say that, while I favor a quicker withdrawal, I think this is a very good plan.
Obama is clearly committed to ending the war. Who would rather have in there? McCain and Palin? We won this political battle.
Guess what, folks? Did it ever occur to you that Obama, as President, may know facts and realities that we don't? Let's not quibble over 16 months versus 19 months... he's ending the war, and that's what we all want.
wqvsaa: Iäm not an American but the way I see it is that in your democracy you would've been stuck in Iraq for maybe 50 years. so 3 years is always better then 50.
Also. didnt he just take office? I meaan give the Man at least a year before you abandon him. You have a funnny sense of Loyalty.
Thats right, ignore the fact he's doing exactly what he said he'd do, and quibble over a few months difference in the plan. Do you think McCain would have them home any faster? But no, its entirely logical to drop all support of a president that actually seems to give a damn about his people and the soldiers. Yup, very logical.
Anyone who's telling you they no longer support him are just posers, don't fall for them. They're the sore losers that wanted 4-8 more years of senseless war and fear mongering. Nobody seriously drops a president in his first month in office.
No that is not what he promised. He promised during the campaign to leave a residual force for training and stability. The only thing he changed is the timeline from 16 to 19 months.Hardly betrayal
BS urself, did u prefer bush? all he did was lie,Obama he has a hell of a lot more responsibility on his shoulders than u ever will ALSOevery presidant theres ever been for america has lied alot more than three times you sit on ur ass all day while hes trying to fix america what for? for people like you when all you do is criticise and make half assed judgements without even knowing all the facts the day u have over four million people relying on u for freedom then u can judge obama k? thx
And you are the creator of all the magical fairy tales that will lead us down the path to true happiness. And when all is said and down. I will flourish in the true that comes babbling out of the mouth of a lunatic. The rise of truth?
Your page says you are from the United States. Then you are part of the problem. If you are not from the United States then you have no opinion here. No matter what though. You need a couple pills to help you see the real world. We are trying. And we will accomplish things. Yet no matter what people like you will never be satisfied.
Well I can absolutely agree with that! Yet McCain is supporting Obamas decision.. Everytime I think I have it figured out. One of them changes their minds!
What is the problem? Bringing the war in Iraq is a problem for you?? I know that idiots like you will jump on the next negative band wagon. I prefer to savor this moment.
Your guy is a liar plain and simple no better than G.W. himself. He said sixteen months over and over and over again than when it came time to do what he said he rolled over and did a flip flop right into Bush's agenda, ha deal with it.
in vain, things will have been WORSE BECAUSE WE WERE THERE. Mychaels 2 years ago
Mychaels 2 years ago
You have no opinion.. You did note vote.
Mychaels 2 years ago
You have no opinion. You do not exercise your right to vote! You have no platform.
Mychaels 2 years ago
You lost your right to complain since you have no candidate that you believe in. Therefore you have no platform to stand on other than the one you are on. Which is anger towards everyone. When the stimulus checks arrive.. Send it back. When the troops come home. Turn your back on them. When the new jobs are created keep your opinion to yourself. You blocked yourself out. That in my opinion is truly foolish.
Mychaels 2 years ago
I do not care if you do not vote. Except that if you do not vote then you cannot complain. It is your duty to vote. If you do not... Then in my opinion your opinion means nothing.
Mychaels 2 years ago
democracy is a sham, voting means nothing.....

After seeing yours I noticed you like Disney. How about a stimulating conversation. Or maybe you should get over your God attitude and go back to watching Goofy (The cartoon. Not yourself)

thank god that the people of the USA elected this man!
sxc1892 2 years ago
Mychaels 2 years ago
I hope so. It beats the crap out of listening to you.. Judge not unless you want to be judged. Be careful what YOU wish for.. You may just get it.

PersonalJesus348 2 years ago 2
why would anyone join the military.
if theres anything i truly HATE in this world, its ignorance, obedience, or an evil footsoldier for the state. i dont even hate the dictators, i hate the people that love them.
ZeroHourComes 2 years ago
I'm sorry ZeroHour but I see no reason for you're illogical rant against soldiers. Our primary mission is the defense of the people. However, we still have to obey the legal orer of our superiors. If the "dictator" you're referring to is Bush, we are legally bound to obey him, without undermining his orders, in the same way that Obama has that authority. The American soldier should be remaining above the fray politically, that's not our job.
RCap12 2 years ago
invading a sovereign nation with no stated mission, stealing natural resources and killing 1.5 million civilians is not a political issue. itsa human rights issue. torturing innocent civilians including children at places like bagram airbase is not a political issue.
and training to confiscate american peoples weapons and put them in concentration camps is not a political issue. its an issue that many citizens wont need to debate. be careful what orders you follow.

Plan sounds fair enough to me, At least their "IS A PLAN" and its being stated.
Lets review the recent alternate plan by...
Bush/Cheney/McCain... *We may be in Iraq for 100 years or MORE!*
I would say 3 years is better than 100 years or MORE!
The NeoCon trolls on here trying to stir up Anti-Obama fervor all the while pretending to be Democrats are pretty funny. (",)
And if your a "Far Lefty"... (Get over it) 3 years is reasonable, sure beats 100 plus years.
Taino187 2 years ago
I thought you were going to pull one to two brigades out of Iraq per month barack?
Forget you said that?
I thought we were wasting 10 BILLION dollars in Iraq per month that could be spent here in America barack?
Forget you said that?
I thought there was and never will be a military solution in Iraq barack?
Forget you said that?

As long as US troops are there they will continue to be a target which means more deaths.
I can't believe he is no different than Bush.
What a DAMN LIAR and traitor you are Barack.
You are setting yourself up to be a one term president.
wqvsaa 2 years ago
This is such BULLSHIT
Saying that our "combat mission" will be over in August '10 is just like Bush saying "Mission Accomplished"
Bush thought our combat mission was over. But because we still had troops there and Iraq was still a mess, we got drawn into further fighting.
If Obama leaves 35-50k troops there, they will again be drawn in, and we will remain at war through the end of his first term.
The only solution is withdrawal. Let the Iraqis, Afghans, and Israelis fend for themselves!
SubmarinerAndroid 2 years ago 2
Because Bush was planning to withdraw everybody that week, but gosh darn it, those silly terrorists just kept fighting back!
Seriously though... the troops remaining there will not be in combat positions. If they take up combat positions without specific orders to do so, they'll face court martial for it. The solution is withdrawal, but the reality is that it isn't happening overnight, and that we made a mess of things.
And the Israelis are our ALLIES, remember?

mmiikkeelo 2 years ago
I'll ignore all the spam and trolls here and say that, while I favor a quicker withdrawal, I think this is a very good plan.
Obama is clearly committed to ending the war. Who would rather have in there? McCain and Palin? We won this political battle.
Guess what, folks? Did it ever occur to you that Obama, as President, may know facts and realities that we don't? Let's not quibble over 16 months versus 19 months... he's ending the war, and that's what we all want.
This is a good occasion.
JeremyTheBlueDuck 2 years ago
It's NOT 19 months. IT'S 3 FULL YEARS.
All of 2009.
All of 2010.
All of 2011.
He lied and has contradicted everything he said for the last 2 years.
I won't vote for him ever again. He's a LIAR and another Bush.
wqvsaa 2 years ago
wqvsaa: Iäm not an American but the way I see it is that in your democracy you would've been stuck in Iraq for maybe 50 years. so 3 years is always better then 50.
Also. didnt he just take office? I meaan give the Man at least a year before you abandon him. You have a funnny sense of Loyalty.
Peace,
Falsare 2 years ago
BS, we voted for him based off the TOTAL WITHDRAWL of US forsces in 16 months. That meant 1 to 2 brigades per month being pulled OUT.
He lied to us for 2 years and he will NEVER receive my support from this day forward. FUCK HIS LYING ASS.
wqvsaa 2 years ago
Thats right, ignore the fact he's doing exactly what he said he'd do, and quibble over a few months difference in the plan. Do you think McCain would have them home any faster? But no, its entirely logical to drop all support of a president that actually seems to give a damn about his people and the soldiers. Yup, very logical.
DeadlyChinchilla 2 years ago
Anyone who's telling you they no longer support him are just posers, don't fall for them. They're the sore losers that wanted 4-8 more years of senseless war and fear mongering. Nobody seriously drops a president in his first month in office.

I thought we were less safe here in America because of our presense in Iraq Barack?
Now that you're in office you forgot you said that?
Alot of people voted for you because you said you'd pull ALL FORCES OUT in 16 months and you have just LIED to the nation today.
You will not get my vote if you run again in 2013.
wqvsaa 2 years ago
No that is not what he promised. He promised during the campaign to leave a residual force for training and stability. The only thing he changed is the timeline from 16 to 19 months.Hardly betrayal
LITEBRITE65 2 years ago
BS, he said he would pull one to two brigades per month. He's been in office for over a month and he pulled NO brigades out. LIE #1
He said ALL US forces would be out in 16 months. It has changed to 3 years now. The end of 2011. LIE #2
He denies what he change the mission from combat to WITHDRAWL. It's still combat. LIE #3
wqvsaa 2 years ago
BS urself, did u prefer bush? all he did was lie,Obama he has a hell of a lot more responsibility on his shoulders than u ever will ALSOevery presidant theres ever been for america has lied alot more than three times you sit on ur ass all day while hes trying to fix america what for? for people like you when all you do is criticise and make half assed judgements without even knowing all the facts the day u have over four million people relying on u for freedom then u can judge obama k? thx
