@babybowflex28 Weight depends on where in the river we are fishing and what is happening with the tides. It ranges from 12oz to 18oz. Leader is around 30" and the hooks are big, maybe size 4/0.
great vid! Action like this is to die for...rare occasion we'll have it like this in the cali bay..but for the most part, u miss one pump, day is practically almost done...rookies remind me of the people i take shark fishin..hah! good times, great vid!
@44typhoon hah! i completely understand...when i dont fish for weeks and i get a lil bite, i get super excited as well, but you guys were'nt doing anything wrong, its just when rookies or anyone that doesn't really fish has this excitement when they get a bit and i find it really funny. This is what fishin is really all about, good times with your boys with no worries and havn fun. The action is just a plus.

How big did the on in that last hookset turn out to be?
LayEmOut60 11 months ago
@LayEmOut60 That is the fish shown in my other video "belt or no belt". It was around 50" in length.
44typhoon 11 months ago
@44typhoon Hmmm.. I would've thought more than that with the way it doubled the rod and took line. Must've been a fighter, that one!
LayEmOut60 11 months ago
@LayEmOut60 It was an amazingly strong fish. If you see my other vid it pulled me around the boat.

@STRIPERBAY408 Hey! I'm one of those rookies :)
When you only fish for sturgeon 1 or 2 times per year it's quite challenging to time the hookset right.

what kind of rod holders are those? They look like some sort of break away, very cool for sturgeon.
plmbrjrm 1 year ago
@plmbrjrm Scotty Orca rod holders. They are very quick release.

gmclmc29 3 years ago
Around CDN$600 for the boat (4 people).

What rods are you using?
fusionstar916 3 years ago
Not exactly sure. They are heavy action Shimano Technium or equivalent.
Line is 130lb PowerPro with 98lb leader.

i mostly fish for steelhead. why are these called "rookie" hook sets?
prosteelheader 3 years ago
The hook sets are by people who rarely fish for sturgeon (and are not guides). A poor hookset results in lost fish (and can be humorous).
