Children die every day from perfectly cureable and preventable causes, but apparently thats not a major issue, when people can spend thousands of pounds per day to run a boat that saves 100 whales every year. (And I'd know how much it costs to run boats of that size- my Uni has one. It's £5000 a day just to sit in dock.)

I can understand these people who are against killing whales. But what they are doing is stupid. First, they use much energy for the motor of the boat. Then, If one of those boats would sink, the people are in danger and the nature too, because nobody would bring the boat out of the water, it would be rotton in a few years and all the oil from the canister is in the ocean. Any seaman worth his salt knows it is the responsibility of the give way vessel to do so in good time. @BAMFtkd That's fairly simple. They put themselves there to cause - through putting themselves in a "stand on" position under COLREGS - the whaling vessels to alter course and eventually abandon their whaling.
There's nothing to be gained by staying well clear so they use the COLREGS to force other vessels into a position of altering course or colliding with the stand-on vessel.
Crowding is the whole reason people donate to and go on the anti-whaling voyages.

Look there's a difference between killing for sport and killing for survival. Many civilazations survive on whales. In the 1990's Greenpeace demanded that Shell Oil remove an oil rig off the coast of Norway as it was de-commisioned. This rig was a Dutch Rig as Shell is an Dutch company. This is fact - Shell informed Greenpeace that by doing that they would damage an ecosystem of Crustaceans and Barnacles which had attached themselves to the frame of the rig over the years. But Shell agreed to Greenpeace demands. Scientists later discovered that an ecosystem did in fact exist there - and Greenpeace appologised

Greenpeace seems to "forget" that any captain has the responsability to avoid an accident. Maintaining speed and course is therefore not legal under these cicumstances, even when having the right of way. Therefore, both captains are responsible and since both of them acted with intent, both should be presecuted and no reparation will be granted through insurance.

Children die every day from perfectly cureable and preventable causes, but apparently thats not a major issue, when people can spend thousands of pounds per day to run a boat that saves 100 whales every year. (And I'd know how much it costs to run boats of that size- my Uni has one. It's £5000 a day just to sit in dock.)

Any seaman worth his salt knows it is the responsibility of the give way vessel to do so in good time. Greenpeace were no innocent victim, but the collision wouldn't have happened if the whaling helm had taken the action required of him under COLREGS.

@BAMFtkd That's fairly simple. They put themselves there to cause - through putting themselves in a "stand on" position under COLREGS - the whaling vessels to alter course and eventually abandon their whaling.
There's nothing to be gained by staying well clear so they use the COLREGS to force other vessels into a position of altering course or colliding with the stand-on vessel.
Crowding is the whole reason people donate to and go on the anti-whaling voyages.

Stopping whalers isn't illegal. They may use some illegal tactics (as I've said - they haven't broken one in this case) but that's not inherent in what they do.

Look there's a difference between killing for sport and killing for survival. Many civilazations survive on whales. Which is nessesary, BUT others just wake up and say let's go for 10 whales to sell to a guy that can't see up or down. I support the sacs and greenpiece and all they do but others have to survive on whale I think a long break from the whale killings will help them come back. In the 1990's Greenpeace demanded that Shell Oil remove an oil rig off the coast of Norway as it was de-commisioned. This rig was a Dutch Rig as Shell is an Dutch company. This is fact - Shell informed Greenpeace that by doing that they would damage an ecosystem of Crustaceans and Barnacles which had attached themselves to the frame of the rig over the years. But Shell agreed to Greenpeace demands. Scientists later discovered that an ecosystem did in fact exist there - and Greenpeace appologised

Greenpeace seems to "forget" that any captain has the responsability to avoid an accident. Maintaining speed and course is therefore not legal under these cicumstances, even when having the right of way. Therefore, both captains are responsible and since both of them acted with intent, both should be presecuted and no reparation will be granted through insurance.
