The freedom you seem to take for granted was bought and paid for by many, many generations of Americans who defended those freedoms for ungrateful jackasses like you. Remember that when you spout off about how much you dislike the volunteers who go overseas and fight for your dumb ass.
Whoooo Hooooo Camp Bondsteel! I was there in 2002. Oh and by the way we were not killing people. In fact we went out into the surrounding communities quite often and never had any problems. We went to one farm were a soldier claimed he had been bitten while he was doing a training exercise and talked to the farmer who allowed us to give his dog a rabies vaccination (free of charge by the way). I loved the country and I'm always happy when I hear good things about it.
@dalismers he was in Forrest Gump with tom hanks. maybe he reminds you of that movie which leads you to think of Tom Hanks.
or maybe there's just something about his personality that makes you think of Tom hanks. I dont know, I think I'm thinking this over too much. ignore me.
What's so funny is. Gary sinise didn't get two sentences in. It was all Craig talking. I love that though. It's his thing. It's what makes Craig Craig.
@BenjaminWirtz I think its titled introduceing Geoff Petersen - I think it was 5.20.10 ? My memory is bad ... search LATE LATE SHOW GEOFF PETERSON - is it an E or an O ? Any way - Mal has it in his list ...
When Craig says things like, "it's a great day for America" its all a part of his character. I for one like Craig because he doesn't express his views about politics
Gosh, Gary Sinese seemed much more conversative than I expected. He seemed genuinely uncomfortable with Craig's references. On the other hand, I am beginning to get a bit fed up with the constant 'in your pants', testicle, whipped cream, mouth organ, innuendo jokes. It's like it's spiralling into being a 'Carry On' comedy & it's not as funny when it's so predictable. Great that Craig could lead Gary to more comfortable topics though. And I do think Craig has more to offer than pee-pee jokes.
@bonestwig Yeah, I see now that he's become an untouchable god-like figure around here, but for me his human contradictory side is more interesting. After the fast bashing from the hardcore fans I thank you for being nice! :)
@Airizarry098 I don't hate soldiers, as I said, they're often undereducated inexperienced young people used by governmental office to achieve goals that have to do with economical and political interests in higher levels. Thinking otherwise to me is being naive about war in general. I wish them a better education and a broader view of the world so they have the tools to decide if what they're doing is actually good for humanity, and I don't think following orders to kill people is heroic at all.
What's with this casual chat about the Afghanistan war? O_O If Craig wants to be patriotic he can visit people who work hard to save lives daily (for instance, doctors, teachers, scientists) instead of undereducated young soldiers fighting an unjustified war killing military and civilians for the government's interests. I love Craig, but I hate to admit lately I've been avoiding his videos because his sometimes blind defense of American idiosyncrasy makes me cringe.
@TVsCraigFerguson Really? Why? Because I don't support the military? Because I have my opinions on war? I appreciate your work posting all the videos from the show, but you're not his manager or friend. Craig is an intelligent man who is passionate about knowledge and thought, and a man who doesn't shy away from dissent. I'll keep watching his show, enjoying his talent (although sometimes I disagree with his views) as much as I like, because that's what freedom is for. Have a nice day.
@luxvoix All I see here is some viewers commenting on their support for American soldiers that, like soldiers in countries all around the world, are going through hell and dieing every single day. I admit that some of the people commenting at you were angry and snippy but I think that they most likely thought you were and American too and that is what angered them more. People all around the world no matter where they live have hard times in their lives, even the rich and powerful because
@luxvoix they most likely sought to be rich and powerful because of having bad childhoods, and you talk to freely about the right to have your own opinions and freedom of speech and so on and so forth yet you readily think anybody who supports their troops or goes into a military career are uneducated and naive when that is not the case. I will agree that a good portion most likely comes from them having a lack of options but they are doing the best they can with the hand that was dealt to them
@Malddev Look, I appreciate your comments, but I think there's no point in continuing this debate. We've all said what we had to say. I read articles, watch political tv shows, stay informed. I come from a middle class intellectual and artistic family, an environment where questioning institutions and dogmas is celebrated, rather than frowned upon. I forget that our cultures are different, I'm not from the US, but most of my family and my best friend live there so I should know better. Thanks.
@luxvoix and they I think they shouldn't be looked down upon when they are trying to do something right, no matter if they are being used by the rich and powerful, they are doing what they can for their country the best that they see fit. I for one thank any veteran I come across for their time spent in the service and I thank them for putting up with the downright crappy situations that they have to deal with during times of war. I myself am a proud American and support the American troops,
@luxvoix and any other countries troops who aren't being ordered, and following those orders, to commit acts of genocide. They are people like you and me and I think that the entire human race needs to sit back and take a good long hard look at the way things are going around the world if there is going to be any change in how things currently are.
@luxvoix i suppose its the same as how i tend to cringe at the blind irrationality of the negativity towards any attempt to simply recognize the work military personnel do, and the risks they put themselves through, just because some people feel such a NEED to to wear their politics on their sleeves 100% of the time that they can't separate the simple desire to recognize what they go through from a supposed blanket endorsement of Government military action.
@TalbotAlligator ironically its that mentality that shows a rather immature ability to recognize that there's more to life than politics, and a rather immature ability to recognize that the world isn't black and white.
@TalbotAlligator ...and they're just becoming puppets for corporatist interests, candidly fighting the fights of the powerful thinking they're the heroes defeating the bad guys, when the bad guys are the ones who sent them to war in the first place. Of course the world isn't black or white, that's why I express that sometimes I disagree with Craig's opinions and still respect him immensely. I have a really dark sense of humor, but this war talk just felt wrong to me, too many deaths at stake.
@TalbotAlligator Politics are there all the time, they are the backbone of every aspect of our societies, whether we see them or not. Soldiers and people working in military missions expose themselves to high risks just like doctors, teachers and social workers who work daily in conflict or poverty stricken places all over the world. I allow myself to question this set-in-stone truth that soldiers should be celebrated, because it makes innocent kids want to "give their life for their country"...
@luxvoix I don't know anyone who likes war! You can't tell the difference between supporting our boys and supporting a war? Even the tiniest countries have their own military and all around the world the citizens are proud of their boys in uniform. What do you think would happen to this country if we had no military? Do you think other counties would just say 'oh, well let's not bother them they don't have an army' are you that naive?
@birchie47 Maybe it has to do with my country's history with military and USA's foreign policy; when only 4 decades ago 30000 people were captured, tortured and killed or disappeared in hands of the military and police forces in what was called Operation Condor with the full support of Kissinger and the CIA. I don't trust, don't like, I'm not proud of police, military, marine authorities or subordinates because they are the violent arm of the sinister side of democracy.
...I don't approve of war but they have been a fact of life since the first homo sapien group got angry at the neighboring group. Homo sapien means rational (wose or knowing) man. We're not always wise because we make war but the rational thing is to offer support to the young men/women and their families. Gary and his band do about 60-80 concerts a year for our boys. What have you done for anyone lately?
@birchie47 So Gary's god because he entertains soldiers? I love how every discussion with americans ends in "and what do you know? and what have YOU done?" How about I've saved a friend from dying; I stood by my family and supported them when there was no one around and I watched them die one by one of awful diseases, including my mum, by the age of 24, and I sacrificed my own interests for theirs and their well-being because I was raised to try for justice above everything, no matter the cost.
@luxvoix Sorry you had such an unhappy life. I don't know what country you're from but this probably isn't the best place to try to redress those grievances. And certainly not for 30-40 years worth of anger. That said, I hope your future is more beneficial to you than your past & that U find peace. You may not be the only person who has suffered, but we can still acknowledge when others do good works. No one said anyone was a God.
@birchie47 I have peace, thank you. And I'm from Argentina. My point was that the implications of being in the army, and furthermore, in the US army, go beyond the simple purpose of defending a country from military attacks, and it's the way it's been for ages. Those soldiers are used and left with irreparable psychological and physical scars, and if anything, famous people can shed a light on that instead of celebrating the awful job they are brainwashed into doing "for their country".
@birchie47 ....And it doesn't matter, I mentioned it to prove you never know who you're talking to, the "history behind the username". Tolerance is what's needed here, and an open-minded to accept people may have different opinions. Even if I had lived a perfect cotton candy life I'd still have the right to speak my mind without someone saying "And what right do YOU have to say what you think about anything?" Isn't America all about freedom? It's a shame it seems more like a theoretical thing.
